Chrono Trigger Soundtrack Restoration Project

Whatsup Guys. So i started restoring the soundtrack to chrono trigger by using the original synth sources that the composers used before being compressed into the SNES version.

I will update the tracks from time to time and check back for more restorations as i find more of the sources.

Hey cool thanks a lot. That spreadsheet is a really really really neat project!

Can you talk about your process? Is the sequencing taken from the SPC dumps?

I start by using vgmtrans to convert the spc to midi, load it inside FL Studio and just plug in the samples. I use spctool to analyze whats going on inside the spc file and listen to the track channel by channel. If your familiar with Jammin' Sam Miller, he has done the same with the DKC series.

I also live stream my restorations, so you can see the process in real time. So be sure to get notifications from my channel for when the streams are live.

I'll give this a huge shoutout in the next update.

Curious about your work on other games, too (I was dipping into the livestream time to time). Always hoping someone chases that white whale of improving the Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA music. I've read that the samples Dave Wise used are literally a needle in a haystack of random CDs and other sources, so it's proven extremely hard to do.

Edit: Looks like Mitsuda listed his Chrono Cross equipment at some point:

The music software and sound sources used for Chrono Cross are as follows. Sequencer] Digital Performer

AKAI S3200XL AKAI S6000 E-mu E4XT Roland JV-2080 KORG TR-RACK ENSONIQ MR-RACK Digidesign SAMPLE I used CELL2.... It's mostly AKAI and E-mu.
