Here, I did texturing and lighting. I tried giving it that under the sea ocean palace vibe and chromatic metal plating.

I like this. It feels like you can better make out the fine details here than you would with the sprite in-game.

Hold on... structures with Non-euclidean details? That's a very H.P. Lovecraft thing to do, and Lavos and the Mammon Machine are at least partly inspired by H.P Lovecraft's work.
Maybe I'm overthinking this, but it seems really cool

Eh I just remember seeing a stream of a Mario World hack called Call of Cthulu, and the streamer saying the structure of the levels is non-euclidean... As in it physically does not make sense. It's like that picture of the 4 flights of stairs that somehow loop
