Looking at my SNES, you trademarked Secret of Mana over 2 decades ago, way to go morons.

The SoM remake had some real wierd graphics...but does this mean they are gonna try and 'surprise' the neo-retro generation by remaking Seiken Densetsu 3? (Secret of Mana 2) Cause I liked that game, I have a repro-cart of it for my console, and as my brother and friend went to NC State, i know a guy who knows the fan translator :P

That's the copyright. Trademarks need to constantly be renewed.

I'm going to conceed, however, that the recent SoM remake counts as trademark renewal, so doing another renewal now may seem strange. However, I don't work at SE, so what would I know about how they handle trademark periods.

The alternative, is that the trademark is for the original, and somehow the remake doesn't count for that version of the game in terms of trademark. THe last time the original SoM could have a trademark renewal was in 2014 with its mobile port. So by this point, in 2019, that's enough time to need a trademark renewal. Again, if the 3D remake doesn't count for the 2D version as well.

Though again, I'm not a lawyer to know how these things work in full detail.

I wonder if these aren't ports of the recent SoM remake and the cell phone Final Fantasy Adventure remake? Maybe for the Switch?

I'd say it's possible. FFA hasn't had anything outside Japan outside it's original release. Likewise SoM doesn't have anything for the recent Nintendo consoles.

Maybe for the Switch?

Well, recently Nintendo announced another Direct video for tomorrow:

https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/02-13-2019/

So we'll see soon enough if that's the case or not.

Interesting.  I didn't hate the SOM remake, but it was by no means an improvement on the original.  A switch release seems likely considering Squares current MO.

Lawyers suck.

So how long does the copyright last then? I thought that either that or trademarks lasted like hundreds of years. But is it just a renewal so they can sue hackers, or are does this usually happen when a new game comes out? SOmeone told me when they are gonna make like a new GTA game, they go and acquire website names to use for their references like pogo the monkey. Might this be that?

This usually happens when a game [, movie, show] is being developed.

It did the first time. You just...need that 1 to 4 plug port for the SNES that almost no one bought.

Interestingly enough, this didn't show up at E32019 during the SE portion last night!

Maybe it will be in Nintendo's presentation? Well, we'll see...

Looks like I was right. THe collection is getting an overseas release AND SD3, or Trials of Mana now, is getting a 3D remake like the other two games.
