A double-sided weapon in an RPG where there are no pinser attacks is rediculous. It would take Serge less time to swing one end of his weapon down twice then it would to swing the whole thing around just to use the other end. If he were fighting multiple foes from various angles, it would prove most helpful, but he doesn't and instead looks like an idiot by swinging his "Swallow" (fitting name for that's what it does) around like one of those greaser bad guys from 70s movies who'd switch their knife from one hand to the other.

And thus...Katana>Swallow...for all time.

Plus, only the Mastermune looks cool...all the others just look like what they are: sharpened boat oars...gonna scare your foes into submission with that tactic Serge? Oh wait? You're an emotionless tool? Oh that's right...that's for another thread in another timeline...Or it's already happened...w/e...

Well I like the Katana almost as much. Until I played CC, the Katana was my favorite. But actually you're right in your perspective. Facing one enemy the Katana is best, but in a group, the Swallow reigns supreme.

Well, that's my opinion anyways.

Not to mention Serge's mid level tech get's a lot better with the Mastermune equiped.

I found it *very* cool during my first playthrough that after getting the Mastermune, Dash and Slash> Everything else. And at only level 3, very easy to pull off. Now Dreamer's Sarongs make any element a cinch, but during that first playthrough it was nice for making a first impression.
