Possible ressurections?
« on: December 16, 2017, 07:52:43 pm »
https://gonintendo.com/stories/298056-square-enix-elaborates-on-why-switch-succeeding-is-good-for-them

With Romancing Saga 2 remastered, SE hinted the possibility for IP resurrection. Perhaps we could see Break come into fruition due to the success of the switch? I can't leave out ther systems, but it be nice to see remastered games with added detail. Not like that abomination of FFV and FFVI on android?

Well, that's something, at least.

Here's to actually leading to something...

I think any revival of the Chrono IP will be without an intact Dream Team.

I'm all for a revival, though, even if it's a new generation of creators and developers. Despite how some fanon circles operate, I firmly believe that a lackluster sequel does not detract from what I love about the first in the series.

I can kinda agree on that as well.

Personally, I think that even if somehow they were all available and willing to work again on a new Chrono game, it wouldn't be the same by virtue of it being over 20 years. The passage of time, as we know, can be quite the thing.

I wouldn't mind a revival as long as Kato stays far away from it. He's done enough damage as it is.

The question is, what format do I/we want a resurrection?

Retro 16-bit graphics akin to Chrono Trigger? A modern reinterpretation of 16-bit graphics a la Bravely Default (or the even more literal Octopath Traveler)? A more realistic spin like modern Square Enix games?

What about theme? Time travel? Multiverse? Something else?

What about placement in the Chronoverse? Pre-CT? Interquel between CT and CC? Post-CC?

I go back and forth, and I think at the end of the day I am fine with anything, as long as it's part of the Chrono IP.

I know I would like to see a "modern" version of CT.

I'm fine with any theme and as far as placement I would love to see more in-between CT and CC. I find myself being particularly interested in the events surrounding the fall of Guardia. But like you Boo, I would honestly be happy with anything.

Not to be a wet blanket, but I'm not sure if the Chrono franchise can or should be brought back. I think Chrono Trigger was the product of a certain time and place, a certain chemistry between the 'Dream Team', and I don't know if that can be reproduced in the current year. Other franchises have taught me the lesson, 'be careful what you wish for'. While a new Chrono game with the proper quality and spirit would be amazing, this is only one possible outcome. If they made mediocre/crap games with Chrono slopped on top as a selling point, that would be worse than nothing at all.

See, xcalibur, I disagree completely. I'd rather take something subpar if it means a revival and new life into the series. It's better than literally nothing.

I'd rather have a half-life than no life at all! :P

I'll continue working on tools for making awesome Chrono Trigger ROM hacks.

Woot woot!

I wish there was something I could do to help. If there is, definitely let me know. I'm afraid my skills are limited in that area though. :(

I'll be making a topic on Chrono Trigger Modification about identifying sounds soon-ish. I could use help in that area.

Identifying sounds? What does that mean?
