My 1999AD map
« on: August 23, 2017, 04:24:32 pm »
So I've been busy filling out the 1999 map, and here are the results! I based it on where things were in 1000 as well as 2300, and kind of considered that Lavos's emergence would likely have shifted things in 2300 more than they otherwise would have. The original part seen in the Day of Lavos video is unchanged. Wanted to share.

If there's anything anyone likes, or doesn't like, do let me know! I like taking in ideas.

The intention of this map is to take place in 2019 or thereabouts. The one thing I'm thinking about is including some kind of crater or... something... where Lavos emerged. But then, now that I think about it, maybe there should be something else erected over it where people go to study the strange phenomenon? Hmm...

Anyway, enjoy.

I think this is closer to believable than the official 1999 AD map in the DS version.

Why thank you.

Where is the 1999 map from the DS version? I can't seem to find it.

This is the only official complete 1999 AD map:

It looks like you were closer to that than what I remembered.

Huh, so I was...

I don't know, though, a thousand years seems like they should have a bit more change to it, seeing as how 2300 was. Unless Lavos somehow did THAT much. Plus, that one seems to kill most, maybe all of Fiona's forest?! I don't think so...

And! It doesn't even match the small window we had from the day of lavos video! Look at the eastern continent's southern peninsula.

Continental drift seems to be inconsistent in Chrono Trigger. Medina has significant change between 600 AD and 1000 AD, but the other major continents are nearly identical. 1999 AD Medina better fits 600 AD than 1000 AD.

Fiona's forest is likely the result of the map first being shown in the party's first visit to 2300 AD, before the sidequest is unlocked.

I just noticed, Melchoir's hut is just outside Lavos's eruption zone.

Possibly something he planned. I'm sure he knows what's down there.

Well, the Medina area from 600 to 1000 saw the departure of Magus, so maybe that had something to do with it as well? Especially with Lavos sucking his whole castle into a time portal, assuming that's what happened. (?)

I think Melchior was there because it was convenient to have him there at the point of the story.

Now here's a question: the Mystics were around in 600, and 1000... but not 2300. Were they still around in 1999? If so, was Lavos's emergence what killed them off? If they still stuck to the same parts of the world, that could make sense. But it seems like magical kinds of creatures (monsters?) should only exist in past times, not present/future-y times. So, with the exception of an occasional Nu, seems to me they shouldn't be around anymore.

But what do I know.

Magus's castle disappeared, but most of the land mass surrounding it remained. The programmers could have pulled a Fiona's forest for Magus's part of the world. I think Lavos's Time Portal was far more localized than that.

It's definitely convenient to have him accessible, but there are plenty of places he could be without issue for the plot.

The Mystics likely lived in Proto Dome in 1999 AD and beyond, but didn't survive until 2300 AD.

Well, my thought was, perhaps Magus's islands weren't entirely natural, or something magical he did made them unstable, or Lavos's appearance made them unstable... Hell, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe he raised those islands similarly to Zeal being raised into the sky.

What do you mean "pulled a Fiona's forest" exactly?

See, there's no reason to think that the Mystics didn't live in Proto Dome... it just doesn't feel right to me.

Land mass exists in the location of Magus's castle in 600 AD, 1999 AD, and 2300 AD. The difference in 1000 AD is the odd part, considering it comes back in 999 years.

The end of the forest sidequest causes a map change in 1000 AD. Completing Magus's castle causes his castle to disappear, but no other changes. That entire area could have been replaced with water afterwards.

Proto Dome is right on top of Medina. The first residents would have likely been from Medina.

Unless the Mystics were wiped out before then...
