Chronopolis: The Polis War
« on: October 14, 2016, 02:56:54 pm »
I've been toying around with the idea of a fangame spin-off that details what happened directly after the Time Crash, when Chronpolis and Dinopolis fought. It's just an idea, and unlikely that I'll ever be able to make it an actual game, but it's interesting to think about.

I was wondering if anyone has input regarding the subject. Mainly I've been wondering, how long did the fight last? Did Dinopolis fight back, and if so, how? The Dragon God was a thing, it's not unreasonable to think they had more dragons at their disposal. Perhaps dactyls, which they could have used to combat the fighter jets of Chronopolis.

I've always assumed it was FATE that created the elements in Chrono Cross, which would be an interesting plot point as the Dragonians of Dinopolis possibly had that power innately, and FATE derived the elements from that. But the Compendium states that elements were in fact created by Dragonian survivors at so-called power spots. I'm not sure if the game states anything concrete about this.

I dunno if this belongs here as it's not exactly a fan project (yet), just an idea.

So what kind of game will it be? A RPG like CT/CC, a tower defense, a strategy game, or something else?

I haven't put much thought in the game specifics yet, but I feel like it'd have to be an RPG. But instead of a group of heroes, you take the perspective of one of the Chronopolis workers. Because think about it, we haven't really seen that much of Chronopolis' staff except for those ghosts. They had to have had white coats for research, military personnel to operate the jet fighters, etc. Just how many people worked at Chronopolis? The name suggests that it was an actual "city of time" and people may have lived there. I would tell the story mainly from Chronopolis' perspective, but Dinopolis' perspective would also definitely have to be shown. What was their reaction when they suddenly found themselves in a world where humans once again existed, and with technology they'd never seen before?

Curious I actually have been toying with a (purely conceptual at this point) fangame sequel concept of my own and in it the time crash/7600 BC was a major time period and plot point of the saga. However my idea had the crash be caused by a version of Schala who ends up in this time period after the ocean palace and survives by becoming the right hand of a political/military leader known as the emperor. In the conceptual idea the emperor in this era wants to conquer the world and forge a worldwide empire using revived magic and technology (The idea is that a minority of zealians who did not fall completely under lavos influence retained the ability to use magic even after the fall of zeal and their descendants are the shamans of this era). A major war is being fought in 7600 BC between the empire and a coalition of kingdoms and free-cities who are resisting conquest. When your party arrives in this era (you crash land in the epoch due to "temporal turbulence") you are caught up in this battle and your party must try to stop the emperor and this version of schala from gathering various elemental orbs and locating the sun stone. Eventually the empire acquires the sun stone and all the orbs despite the efforts of the party and schala assures the emperor to allow her to begin a ritual that she says will make them gods (in reality she is trying to warp time in order to peer into the timestream in order to locate janus although the ritual grants its users godlike powers). The party completes this part of the game by storming the tower of babel located outside of the imperial capital just as the her ritual is beginning. And the battle with her is preceded with the plot revelation (by this time the Schala that the original heroes knew and is the subject of the events in Chrono Cross has by this point in the game been located and has joined your party) that there are two Schalas due to a time paradox. You defeat the emperor and the alternate Schala but not before the ritual had be partially activated which causes the time crash. After the empire is defeated if the party returns to this era later in the game the advanced technology used by the empire is shown be destroyed under supervision of the shamans who tell you that the sun stones and elemental orbs/crystals are being hidden and chronopolis and dinopolis become accessible places that can be visited although the polis war would likely not be shown if this is made into a game. Also the mystics/fiends are shown in this era and they are depicted as isolationist and xenophobic in this era but not overtly hostile however the lands are subjected to imperial raids for captives who are taken to the empire to be subjected to heinous experiments to extract magic abilities from captured fiend shamans.

Ooooooo this would be The Chrono Series "Rouge One"! I've always wanted a game that shows the events of the time crash and the epic battle of the reptites and the humans.  :D
