Hey, I won't be posting this on the site just yet. Anyway, as you know, Square lists the official release date of Chrono Trigger as being September 1st or 11th, can't remember. Additionally, many people believe it was released on September 29th. However, it still stands that copies were at least available in SOME parts of the US starting in August, and this old newsgroup post corroborates the August 21st/22nd timeframe:

So yeah, even if it wasn't formally released everywhere yet, it got to gamers in August.

This item, shown on CuteLucca's site, is a promotional poster, which was displayed in stores prior to the game's official release. I'm siding with what it says.
