Split Dimensions and Traveling Into the Future

Quote from: Luminaire85
Kid is born in 1004 AD. (This is known because the status screen in CC gives her age as 16.)
The panther attack and electrical storm occur in 1006 AD.
Serge drowns or is saved from drowning by Kid in 1010 AD.
Lucca's house was burned down in 1015 AD.

Quote from: Lucca
Of course, Kid was not to know anything about this whole plan until later, when all this will finish. Further in the future, Kid is meant to travel back ten years in time from now to save Serge from drowning. And then, Kid was also meant to call Serge into the other world as he spoke with Leena here on Opassa Beach!

Therefore Kid did not time travel to save Serge from drowning until at least 1020 AD.

Why at least 1020AD, doesnt Lucca say from 1020?

So, is the Kid in the game supposed to be the one that would eventually time-travel, the one in home world, or the one that saved Serge?

As to which Kid, we don't know.  But they do imply it to be the future of 1020.

Yeah. Kid time travelled to the past in the Neo Epoch 2 i think.
Serge travelled to 1015 via Masa and Mune to save Kid.
This does not need to be a paradox. Home world Kid is never saved and stays on Zenan and becomes a part of the Radical Dreamers who really do steal stuff.
Another world Kid is saved by Serge and becomes a Radical Dreamer to avenge Lucca.
The only screwed up thing is that Serge did die when the Dimensions weren't split. This would have to mean that the Kid in that time, was the same as Home Worlds, and she was never saved, but ended up saving Serge through Belthasar's wishes. Dimensions Split, Kid has done her job so maybe it never has to be done again.

Even if it was a paradox, that is, a causal loop along the time axis, that shouldn't scare us.
Modern physics admit, under certain interpretations of QM, the existence of such loops. The simplest case would be the process of creation-annihilation of an electron-positron pair: from a certain point of view, positrons can be considered as electrons with their time axis set backwards.
So the process of a high energy photon that produces the electron positron pair, and in a fraction of time, both particles annihilate each other reproducing the photon, can also be viewed this way: a photon is "hit" by an electron going backwards in time (the positron) and as a result of the colision, the electron absorbs the photon, and begins to go forward in time, until soon after it releases the photon again.

And yet the physics of Time in the Chronoverse have no causal loops.

Originally, Serge didn't travel back in time to save Kid, she got out of there herself.

And as far as I know, Belthasar told Kid to do it originally, I guess.

is it that way? why do you say that in Chrono Trigger's physics there are no causal loops? ^_^

Yes, causal loops do not exist in the CT universe.

Ok, just thought of this:

Person A time-travels from 1000AD to 1500AD on timeline X.
Person B time-travels from 1200AD to 1100AD and alters the past, creating a new timeline, X'.
Timeline X' did not exist when Person A time-traveled, but Person A still ends up in Timeline X'

Is this not the same kind of situation as the split dimensions?

No.

Wait, are we talking about time error here?  Where they didn't time travel originally?  Regardless, you look at the discarding of timelines wrong.

Time traveling doesn't create entirely new timelines, new timelines from begining of time to the end, but creates a new part of the timeline, from point of arrival to the end of time.

So PersonA would still appear in the timeline created by personB's traveling.  Creation of new dimensions are special cases, which we do not know what causes them.

I've been quite frusterated with the all-too-commonly accepted reason for why Serge's existance causes the negation of Crono's actions for a while. In case anyone's not familiar with this, most people justify the Dead Sea's destroyed future by saying that Crono and co. can only travel into the future in one dimension, and since the dimensions split after Crono and co. travel into the future, they only can affect the original dimension, Another World.

Thats one way but i am not sure if it will work with every option.
