Soundtrack Reinstrumentation - Phase 2 Begins
« on: July 20, 2005, 01:03:21 am »
Second song begins:

Chrono Trigger (Track 18)

Submit .spcs now! chronocompendium@gmail.com!

How this works

When a minimum of three song reinstrumentations are provided for a song, the effort goes to the next one. You can still remix past songs, however.

~What this is~

Temporal Flux has the power to change instrumentation to Chrono Trigger songs. The few holes in the instrument list left have been filled in with notes in parantheses. Let's move on to actually rearranging the soundtrack. When we get several entries for a track, we will have a big vote to decide the best candidate and any runner ups. This is how it works:

1. Download Temporal Flux.
2. Open up Window > Locations, then Window > Music.
3. Find the song you want to edit, and play with the instruments. Use this list as reference for 'em.
4. Open up CT in ZSNES, find a spot where the song plays, and hit F1, create .spc.
5. Find the .spc of your music and e-mail it to chronocompendium@gmail.com, or upload it on a personal server, etc. somehow make it available.

If you are dealing with a song that is hard to find:

1. Make a savestate outside Crono's house.
2. In ZSNES, enter the PAR code 7E1B9Cxx, where xx is the song to be played (consult TF's Music song list for digits).
3. The song will immediately start playing.

Then send in the .spc to chronocompendium@gmail.com.

Here's my low-key entry. If you ask me, the presentiment is one of the hardest tracks to remix when you're going at it from the ambition of getting an original feel out of the song, which is what I'm all about on this project. So...don't expect anything brilliant about this one.

I've been thinking; perhaps we should do this blocks at a time, and then hold the contest judging when the *entire* soundtrack is assembled. This might be easier; a special forum would be created, along with poll topics for every song.

Anyway, doing this takes 5 minutes at most, so anyone, if your curiosity is piqued, try your hand at it. This could very easily turn into the ZeaLitY show; great pains should be taken to avoid that.

What a dark piece "Pensive Settlements" is!

Here is Metacod's Presentiment, which brings it up to 3, and opens the next track for rearranging.

Now, rearrange track 18, Chrono Trigger. Hadriel's already submitted one:

I'll try one as well and create the main thread.

I thought it was "A Premonition," not "presentiment."  Anyway, I'll see if I can't submit one later tonight too. :)  This looks fun. :D

I tried doing it once, but the music window confused me.. it looked like it just had a series of drop-down lists with the numbers of the instruments, and I can't figure out how that makes a song..

Anyway, do the track names/numbers match up with the soundtrack names/numbers?

Well, we're doing Song 18 in the drop-down list of songs.  The numbers under the song are the list of instruments, which match up to the instruments found in the "Soundtrack Reinstrumentation - Phase 1" thread.  All we're doing is changing instruments...That's it. :)

Hmm...  I've been messing around with Track 18, but I can't seem to get anything that sounds good.  I changed the trombone to the electric guitar, but nothing major.  The only ones I came up with anything good on so far are stuff like Marle's musicbox theme and her "extended" musicbox theme. =P  And even there, no huge changes, just some smaller ones.

I'll keep messing with it though...  I guess I'm mainly having trouble because I don't know what most of those instrument names are...  I don't know what the heck a hihat is, etc...  Can't even tell if it's percussion or what.  Could we maybe edit the names of the instruments in that other thread so they say "Percussion," "String," "Wind," "Miscellaneous," etc?  I think it might make things a bit easier as we get further into the soundtrack...

*nods* I've been having a difficult time with 18 as well, but..

I came up with this beautiful arrangement for Chanting Mtn./ Singing Mountain >>;

EDIT: I also came up with a list of the instruments with what each are classified as, if you're interested...

I can PM it to you, if you want. o.o

It does. :)  I've sorted them into an Excel sheet and printed them out...  Should help me quite a bit.  Thanks again.  8)
