Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Revisiting Guile being Magus retcon with added info from CC remaster... SPOILERS
« on: July 17, 2024, 06:41:14 am »
Another (heh) interesting character from Another Eden is Raven: https://anothereden.wiki/w/Raven#Base-0
"A mage wreathed in darkness and death. He has no memory of his past, and hides his scarred face behind a mask. He keeps away from people. Not wanting to be studied, he prefers to do things on his own."
He looks like a dark version of Guile. A dark mage with amnesia? He was included at launch but has had no plot relevance. Other "basic" characters have had full power versions of them released or have participated in different story and side quests. Raven only has a couple non-consequential ones.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Another Eden's Ashtear
« on: July 17, 2024, 06:10:45 am »
Seeing as there is some nice lore and stories in Another Eden related to the Chrono Universe, I thought to make a post about Professor Ashtear.
As most of you know, she's a direct reference to Lucca Ashtear, and aside from the Chrono Cross crossover, one of the most direct ones.
However, according to sidequest in the Chrono Cross story in AE, it is stated by Kid, that although she reminds her very very much of Lucca (she even mistakenly calls her Lucca), she is not her. See this video for the side quest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrLVRwg6Tm4 . Note that the Ashtear in this story is actually (or should be) "Parallel" Ashtear, and the recruitable Ashtear is in the "main" dimension.
Now, regarding her appearance, she couldnt really be much closer to Lucca:
Only difference I can see, is the eye colour. The robot btw is "Korobo", which you save during the story and can serve as a "sidekick" for the party. No relation to Robo though.
Regarding skills, she has:
Guarding/Shielding/Barrier Force: Deploy Defense Wall + Give a Barrier Status to all party members
Dimension Bomb: Stack 5 Dimension Bomb on all enemies, End of Turn: Fire type magic attack on all enemies scaled by number of Dimension Bombs stacked
Sleep Gas: Inflict Sleep on all enemies and Fire Type Resistance -30%
Stress Test: Power of user +30% and Intelligence +30% (3 turns) + Stacks 3 Material on user
Repair Kit: Restore all party members by 25% of Max HP (improves with Material)
Compared to Lucca (see https://chrono.fandom.com/wiki/Lucca#Techs):
Protect: Boost ally's Defense.
Megaton Bomb/Napalm: Blast enemies within a circle.
Flare/Fire II/Fire: Attack enemy(s) with fire.
Flamethrower: Burn enemies along a direct line.
Hypnowave: Put all enemies to sleep.
I think it is safe to say her skills also match quite well.
As for her story, Professor Ashtear is originally from the Future era of the game, where he has worked alongside Professor Chronos and Professor Madoka, who are the parents of Eden and Cecile (i.e. ~Aldo and Feynne). When a project goes awry and the family is sent back in time to different eras, Ashtear has already travelled to Aldo and Feynne's era to look after them. It is said that she is like a big sister to them. I'm a bit fuzzy on all the details, but it is also stated that Ashtear had a family (and an adopted sister) in the future era.
What do you think? Originally at launch she was just a Lucca looking character named Ashtear in Baruoki, but interestingly her role in the plot increased. I haven't read through her lines to see whether she hints anything Chrono related.
One possibility is that she is Lucca's daughter/granddaughter etc., which would explain the name while not knowing Kid etc.

« on: July 17, 2024, 04:54:18 am »That my friend, is a helmet. A very far cry from a mask lol.
I guess its a matter of language/translation, the Ultimania interview about Zoah talks it as a mask, but it is "iron" not "silver":
"We might not be able to talk about the official game now, but there's a secret under Zoah's iron mask. It's said that his face was once injured in war and now he hides the wound with an iron mask, but in reality he's wearing it so as not to reveal his identity. Zoah's role was to be that of the prince of a certain country, secretly watching over the protagonists' doings from the beginning. If you had chosen the forest route (Slash Route) when it came time to infiltrate the Viper Room, you ought to have been able to see an event shedding light on Zoah's true identity."
But Zoah would've most likely been Crono, not Magus. As we discussed in the topic I started some time ago: https://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php?topic=13013.0

« on: April 28, 2020, 03:45:07 am »Man, I really need to play this game again. I lost all my data after my phone broke shortly after its release last year and haven't picked it up since. Was kinda hoping for that Switch port, but it's MIA.
Hey, you can try to contact game support and ask if they still have a backup on the server. I've heard of similar cases and they just ask the account name, device and similar info only you would know.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Homage to Chrono Cross Opassa Beach in Another Eden

Just noticed this video from the newest Another Eden story update posted on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnotherEdenGlobal/comments/g8qjt9/little_things_that_matters_pt2_zami_getaway/
This little beach has been released in AE almost exactly 20 years (give or take few months) after the release of Chrono Cross. Made me think about this thing Leena says at the start of CC:
Leena:
But aren't
memories strange?
Just when you think that
you've forgotten about
something, it comes floating
back into your heart.
I guess it's just lying
there in wait.
Waiting for that right
moment...
Why, we might even
remember this very
moment someday!
In 10, 20 years...when we're
all grown up and married,
and have kids of our own...
Then one day...
When that time comes,
I wonder what kind of adults we'll be?
What kind of life will I be leading...?

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Another Eden Soundtrack: The musical successor of the Chrono universe
« on: December 04, 2019, 06:22:40 am »
Hmm... It seems the soundtrack has been removed from Youtube. Kind of a shame producers of AE see that even though most (game) music is usually available in Youtube, their awesome music should be removed, which hinders accessability. But of course its their decision.
However, I found the official (?) Spotify soundtrack (names in japanese): https://open.spotify.com/album/6erIeYuABYwUV7g6SYEdkj?si=hEKlQ7fMQZqY0-AUKNQvCA

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Another Eden Soundtrack: The musical successor of the Chrono universe
« on: November 25, 2019, 09:24:11 am »
I've been listening the soundtrack of Another Eden at work during the past few weeks, and the Chrono feel is so strong. Some tracks are a clear mashup of CT's and CC's music.
Check the youtube playlist out here: http://bit.ly/2KcD4fC
I've also wondered how well AE's music would fit CT or CC. A mod of the Chrono games with AE's music would be very interesting.

General Discussion / Re: Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space
« on: August 14, 2019, 11:13:00 am »
For those interested, there is an active subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/AnotherEdenGlobal/ and a wiki https://anothereden.miraheze.org/wiki/Another_Eden_Wiki with lots of discussion, guides and information. But I would hold off until you've progressed in the story, in order to avoid spoilers.
I do wonder how much of the stuff meant for Chrono Break has been incorporated into this game, and can we identify those parts and connect what they would mean in the Chrono universe!
Spoiler: Like the fact, that there is a certain cat named Alfador which is quite close to the name Aldo...

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Cracking out who exactly is Zoah?
« on: August 07, 2019, 07:15:35 am »
Fortune teller to Zoah:
I sense deep sadness
beneath that mask of
yours...
In the near future,
you, too, shall find
your sanctuary of peace...
I'm getting more convinced that Zoah could be meant to be Crono, who lost Marle in the war. Or their son, who lost his parents. This dialogue hints that he indeed lost someone:
"Zoah: HMPH! WHAT MEANING IS THERE TO A LIFE OF STRIVING AFTER WEALTH AND POWER...? IT IS NO USE TO YOU ONCE YOU DIE! AS FOR ME, I CHOOSE TO LIVE IN BATTLE AND ONE DAY TO DIE IN BATTLE."
I wonder if his name has any etymological meaning in English or Japanese? In English the closer I can find is:
Zoa, (plural of zoon (n.))
"animal form containing all elements of a typical organism of its group," 1864, from Greek zōon "animal," from PIE root *gwei- "to live."
The root, "to live", could match that he lived after all (even after the injury)..
There's also this:
zoanthropy (n.)
form of insanity in which a man imagines himself to be another type of beast, 1845, from French zoanthrope or directly from Modern Latin zoanthropia, from Greek zoion "animal" (from PIE root *gwei- "to live") + anthrōpos "man" (see anthropo-).
Anyone know any Japanese to analyse the Japanese name, ゾア ?
Edit: Zoah also seems to like sleeping a lot. Sounds similar to a certain sleepy head at the start of CT..

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Re: Comparison of maps of Chrono Trigger and Another Eden (Spoilers!)
« on: June 28, 2019, 11:03:02 am »That is pretty fascinating. I wonder if Kato viewed this as a sort of "redo" of Chrono Trigger (perhaps a parallel universe of sorts)?
I have downloaded this game and it gets a lot of praise for a mobile game. I really need to start playing it...
Maybe. I would say it is not far fetched to assume Kato might have used stories, ideas and plotlines of the cancelled Chrono Break in this game.
Actually I'm overall quite surprised that other Chrono fans have had such a indifferent reaction to this game. It is a goldmine for Chrono theorycrafters, and the story is awesome. Hopefully now that its also released in Europe, it will get critical mass and get people attention
