Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: So, What is the Entity in CT?
« on: October 24, 2008, 07:19:02 pm »
Masato Kato in an interview confirmed that the planet is the entity in Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger. The thing is, Kato didn't have complete control over the CT project or all the storyline elements to it. He wanted the planet to be the entity, and since he took over the project for CC, it was thus made canon.
If you really look at Chrono Trigger, however, you can see that while Kato is right in that the planet probably was responsible for the gates in some way (probably time-space freakout effects from the planet and Lavos), it was actually Bosh who made use of them, although it's never explained how, only hinted at that he knew exactly what was going to happen. For example, when you first meet Bosh, he's already finished working on the dolls that enable you to climb Death Peak later in the game. In fact, even though he is in a degenerate state, he still knows you're supposed to climb Death Peak at some point and hints at it. Of course, there's other things as well, but I'm hoping to lay all of this out in a future topic of mine... if I ever get the time to write it.

Except, what you are forgetting is that it could have been Crono & co.'s first intervention against the Reptites (infiltrating the Reptite Lair to get the Gate Key back) that might have caused the Reptites to strike out against the humans. My thought on this is that if Crono & co. had never traveled back to the Prehistoric Era, Kino never would have been captured in the first place.

Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile / Re: Buzz Tracking Thread
« on: February 04, 2008, 12:16:30 pm »
Hey Zeality, I don't know if you remember me, but I was the guy who put up the Guru Theory back in Winter 2005/2006. Anyway, I just played through Prophet's Guile, and I loved it! I'm an esteemed member of the biggest Armored Core community online now (armoredcoreonline.com/acforums), but there's a good amount of Chrono Trigger fans there, so I'll put the word out on the forums there and other forums I post on. Keep up the good work!

The only way to access this line is to visit 65,000,000 B.C. as soon as it becomes available, ie, before you need to go there for storyline purposes.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: What made CT...

Chrono Trigger was my first RPG, and what did it for me was the storyline for the most part. The gameplay was cool, but the storyline really sucked me in, especially the whole grudge between Frog and Magus.

I don't know. My family is strange, and doesn't always act the way people would assume. For example, right now, my father is off seeing Guns'n'Roses (or, at least, Axl Rose) in concert. In a few days, he'll be seeing Aerosmith. And he's letting my sisters go to the latter. So... heh, yeah, there's no telling the kinds of things my parents do and don't allow.
If he went to see Pearl Jam this past summer while they were on tour, that will score an instant cool in my book.

As for the second paragraph, I can only say 'if only'. And there I'm thinking of a specific one. Laconic and reticent are the right words for her. If only the worst cast scenario would be becoming friends. Heck, that would be a pretty good scenario. If I acted in the way you say in your second paragraph I'd get about a one word response, and have her walk away as quickly as possible. No all women respond well to trying to be conversational.
Well, of course there are girls out there that will respond in that manner too. I suppose I tend to avoid them - I'm pretty good at reading personalities at times, so I usually don't waste my time on a girl that I think is going to be rude in return to a kind gesture from me. It happens every now and then to every guy, but really in the end it's their loss for being stuck up.
Quote from: Daniel Krispin
Anyway, I actually do tend to have the first inclination to act as you've said. The problem is, in those situations those are usualy women that I'd rather just be friends with, rather than actually go out with. So that all works well in order to be generally friendly with people. It doesn't work so well otherwise, because, well, there are too many factors. Firstly, I'd have to be sure about myself. That's important, because I'm not going to set myself up for something I'm not sure I want to do. Secondly, there are the myriad of factors concerning the woman. I'll admit it, I'm picky, but I have to be. Not just any woman will do - not just if 'I happen to get along with them' or any of that rot. I'm an exceptionally long-term thinker, so I absolutely disdain doing things ephemerally. Just doing things on the fly is rather irritating, as it's not responsible. The thing is, the sort of woman I need isn't just someone I can get along with now ... and that's one of the problems. I'm sure you'll say 'well, you never know who you'll get along with until you try', to which my reply is that 'even if you can get along with someone for now, for a while, or if they're fun, that's being foolish. You need someone whom you can spend your life with.' Not to mention the fact that I really don't like women who are overly cheerful, or silly, which seems to be in the majority. There are few scholar-girls out there, and that is about the only thing that will do for me. Oh, and let's not forget the religious corner, too. I'm devoutly religious, such as 90% of the population isn't, which does pose great trouble in this regard. I'm not one to bow easily on matters of religion, nor am I all to compromising. With friends, yes, it doesn't bother me, but with a woman I'd perhaps marry? It's an issue that I'm not sure how I'd handle. For all this, I cannot simply take it lightly.
Well, one of the biggest problems with women our age (I'm in college too) is that the vast majority of them aren't thinking about marriage and I don't think they want to be thinking about marriage anytime soon anyway. At least, that's how it is where I go to school. I think it's gonna be really hard for any guy to find a girl who's thinking about things the way you're thinking about them - it doesn't mean they don't exist, but it will be really hard to find that kind of girl. You seem to be pretty sure about what kind of girl you want, and I wish you the best of luck in finding that kind of girl.

Or, okay, an amendment. Generally the frustration exists for me. But in specific circumstances, that's how I feel. Hadriel said it happens with tests, too, but I'm mostly immune to that effect. All it serves to do is either make me think a.) I did my best, so it's not my problem... or, if I didn't do my best b.) next time I'd better damn study. Failed a test, fine. Over and done with. Then I have to work twice as hard for the final. It's happened to me before. And usually I'm like this with the few women I've asked out, too. I think 'alright, that was a good try.' I compliment myself for actually having tried (because a side-effect of waiting so long as I do is that it does breed anxiety about actually asking someone out, so to have steeled myself up and not faltered is a matter of self-congratulation.) Of course, it WOULD be nice if things would work out now and again, but at least my own confidence isn't too easily shaken. Actually, all that happens is that I feel generally irritated and cynical and bitter about the whole subject. But that doesn't make it more difficult the next time there might be a new opportunity.
Well, don't get frustrated. Based off of the fact that you said you take rejection well and that you seem to approach women like you would a test, that makes me think you're falling into the same problem I had for quite some time - trying too hard. I used to think that if I tried harder next time some girl I was interested in would like me. Before I knew it, I was trying too hard and coming on too strong and really just taking blows to my confidence. Now, I just talk to a girl with confidence and it turns up like this - either she and I end up being interested in each other or we end up becoming friends. Worst case scenario is we become friends. Not bad if you think about it really - I always approach it like I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
I'll give you an example - just today I introduced myself to a girl I had class with a couple years ago that I had actually been wanting to talk to for some time but I never had the confidence to talk to her until recently. So, we happened to be next to each other in line at this little cafe' and all I did was ask her if we were in class together. I pretty much opened a faucet, as she was talking my head off before I knew it, and I found the opportunity to introduce myself to her and learn a little bit about her and let her learn about me. All in all it was a pretty good first impression, and now there's an open door in the future for either to be friends with her or something more. I see it as part of the fun of it - seeing what will develop and which way things might go.

Well if you really want to get down to it as far as stuff between men and women goes, it's the people who are most afraid of being alone and most uncomfortable with themselves that most desire relationships and also are the same ones who never have any luck with the opposite sex because they telegraph their insecurity and lack of self-confidence. The path to getting the opposite sex to notice you is self-discovery and building self confidence. After that, the opposite sex noticing you just happens because you're confident in yourself and you're telegraphing that. Moral of the story: confidence is attractive.

It's not that surprising - the old Sonic games were a lot of fun, and Sonic was a pretty cool character. I think it's pretty cool Crono made it as far as he did, considering Chrono Trigger was a game that wasn't nearly as popular as other games of its day.

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Need confirmation about the Dragonian dimension...
« on: October 31, 2006, 07:12:21 pm »Quote from: Chronopolis, West Lab Computer
65 million years ago, the
Reptites who evolved from
reptiles had developed their
own unique civilization...
This was long before the
ancestors of humans, who
evolved from primates, had
developed their civilization.
Excavations carried out on the
central continent of Zenan have
revealed that the Reptites
already had advanced architectural
skills in the prehistoric era.
But the fall of Lavos to the
planet, and the resulting
Ice Age this brought about,
rang the death knell for the
Reptites and their civilization.
After that the Reptites
slowly disappeared from
the stage of history.
However, in the distant past
humans could have been defeated
in the contest of evolution,
and the Reptites could have
continued to develop...
It is not unthinkable that
such a time line could exist
in other dimensions.
Everything is purely a
problem of possibilities,
and the world is only
stabilized by the viewpoint
of the one who observes it.
It doesn't say anything about a timeline where Lavos never fell - it merely talks about a timeline where the Reptites eventually won out in the contest of evolution. Although it is not stated directly, it is implied that a timeline could exist where the Reptites were allowed to win out in the contest of evolution because Lavos never fell and never caused an ice age. It's not stated directly, but it is implied and perhaps strongly suggested (based on the emphasis of the ice age causing the Reptites to die out) that a timeline could exist where Lavos never fell.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Re: Name plot holes for Chrono games.

Still doesn't explain how FATE was able to destroy the Tower of Eden from across the dimension.
Quote
Ever since the formation of the Dead Sea 10 years ago... FATE has been unable
to intervene directly with World 01. The best FATE could do was cross the dimension and
receive data through the Records of Fate. And with much difficulty, FATE succeeded in
binding Miguel to the Dead Sea as a watchman...
So FATE to could cross the dimension...? As you said something unexplained doesn't equal a plot hole. But I have always thought of a plot hole also as: Going aginst the intentional logic of the world in order to create the plot that wouldn't ordinarily exsist. AKA killing serge right away instead of waiting all them years. But FATE and Chronopolis did cause the time crash and such so it isn't out of the question FATE to could cross the dimension I guess.
Sorry, but this isn't a plot hole. The Frozen Flame in World 01 (Home World) was very close to awakening, and because of this, FATE had to act accordingly and stop the Flame from falling into the hands of its enemies at all costs. If you look back at the video clip of the Dead Sea first exploding and then imploding, you see that it starts with three bursts of flame from the three islands where the "Fates" reside in Sea of Eden in World 02. Also, it is in these three places that you end up finding temporal disortions to the Sea of Eden in what was once the Dead Sea. What we can gather from this is that it was through these three places that FATE was able to cross dimensions (most likely using every bit of power possible) and cause the destruction of the Dead Sea. While the game does say that FATE was merely able to gather information from but not manipulate the records of FATE, we see that in an act of desperation FATE is capable of temporarily crossing dimensions (most likely using all the technology available to Chronopolis) and being active, even if it is just for a short time.

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Return to canon: Lavos and evolution
« on: October 26, 2006, 12:05:45 am »
Most of the argument that Lavos somehow controlled or influenced the evolution of humans from the Chrono Cross Script is based off of the following quotes:
This is the most interesting quote from Chronopolis, as the ghost of the scientist in the east lab starts thinking that Lavos did influence human evolution, although it may not have been a conscious effort on Lavos' part.
This quote shows that scientists at Chronopolis thought it was the Frozen Flame that changed DNA, and not specifically Lavos itself. The Dragonian Record, however, sees humans purely as the progeny of Lavos, as shown here:
What is really interesting though, and gives some credibility to your argument is that there is no mention of Lavos' effecting evolution in the data on Lavos in the west lab of Chronopolis:
What we see, however, is that while Lavos may not have specifically manipulated evolution, its mere presence, along with the Frozen Flame, is strongly suggested by the Chrono Cross script to have been the cause of human evolution.
Quote from: Ghost in Chronopolis, East Lab
The life-forms on this planet
developed from single-celled
microorganisms to protozoans...
Then from fish to amphibians...
from reptiles to mammals...
and eventually to humans.
Beginning with a cerebral
neocortex, which only
exists in higher mammals...
The anthropod brain enlarged
at an accelerating pace until it
became the human brain we know.
Could the reason for the
abnormal development of the
human brain be the biological
contamination caused by Lavos?
That would mean that humans are
really a heterogeneous life-form,
or '"foreign matter,"' as far as
the planet is concerned.
Humans are a sudden mutation
caused by the contact with
Lavos -- an alien life-form that
fell to this planet from space.
That is why humans are,
biologically speaking,
unbalanced and half-finished.
Internally inconsistent and
disconnected, the human
existence is plagued by
contradictions.
An incomplete species,
torn between love and hatred,
whose very being is self-
contradictory.
From the planet's viewpoint,
humans are just destroyers
and a cursed, yet perhaps
pathetic, blight on the world.
This is the most interesting quote from Chronopolis, as the ghost of the scientist in the east lab starts thinking that Lavos did influence human evolution, although it may not have been a conscious effort on Lavos' part.
Quote from: Ghost in Chronopolis, West Lab
The DNA records are
poems and music...
Adenine and Thymine...
Guanine and Cytosine...
Rythym and Melody...
Perhaps the DNA of the ones
who make contact with the
Flame is recomposed by the
sound they generate within?
I wonder if life-forms are
just dreaming in an endless
flow of music?
This quote shows that scientists at Chronopolis thought it was the Frozen Flame that changed DNA, and not specifically Lavos itself. The Dragonian Record, however, sees humans purely as the progeny of Lavos, as shown here:
Quote from: Dragonian Record
That one was known as '"Lavos!"'
The great crimson flame......
Wielding absolute power,
Lavos buried the dinosaurs -
the kings of the land -
in the space of a night.
However, the timid '"apes"'
who had lived hidden in
the forests...
...came into contact with
the crimsom flame
that fell from the sky,
and evolved into '"humans."'
Or perhaps it was
not '"evolution,"'
but '"transformation."'
In this way, humans
increased in number
and filled the earth...
The fearsome '"progeny of Lavos"'
who, like their progenitor,
began to devour our mother planet.
What is really interesting though, and gives some credibility to your argument is that there is no mention of Lavos' effecting evolution in the data on Lavos in the west lab of Chronopolis:
Quote from: Computer Data on Lavos, West Lab Chronopolis
An extraterrestrial life-form
that is thought to have
fallen from the heavens
65 million years ago.
On the time line that existed
before history was changed,
Lavos was assumed to have
slept deep below the planet's
surface...
Sleeping and consuming the
planet's energy up until the
day of destruction known as
the '"Apocalypse."'
There are those who believe
that, 12 thousand years ago,
the legendary ancient magical
civilization known as Zeal
came into contact with Lavos.
That fateful encounter is
said to have resulted in
Zeal disappearing from the
surface of the planet within
the space of a single night.
However, the very existence
of the ancient civilization
of Zeal has never been proven,
so up till this day this
theory cannot be confirmed.
On some time lines, Lavos
appeared on the surface of
the planet in the year 1999
and brought the world to
ruins.
However, a group of young
time travelers saw where
their planet's history was
heading and, through their
actions, rewrote time.
This very research facility
exists on that new time line...
In a world where, thanks to
the defeat of Lavos by the
young adventurers, the
Apocalypse never happened...
On a temporal vector where
human civilization continued
to evolve unhampered.
All the data on Lavos that was
obtained from tracing different
parallel world possibilities
has proven to be volatile, with
fluctuating discrepencies.
Perhaps, at this point in time,
it is nearly impossible to
obtain any true information
about Lavos
What we see, however, is that while Lavos may not have specifically manipulated evolution, its mere presence, along with the Frozen Flame, is strongly suggested by the Chrono Cross script to have been the cause of human evolution.
