Thanks for the response.  I'll have to see if I can find the formulae for PoyozoDance etc. somewhere.

I've decided I'll go ahead and max out Lucca and Marle after all; there's no harm in it, and everyone will gain a few levels in the process.  Though to be honest, I find the mental image of a hypermuscular Lucca or Marle vaguely disturbing.

Thanks for the clarification.
One last question, then: is there any point to maxing out Lucca's and Marle's Power stat?  I know it's not used for their regular physical attacks, but is it used in anything at all (including triple techs like Poyozo Dance)?

I just finished beating the Tubster about 80 times to max out everyone else's power stat...I'm not sure I'm interested in doing so another 150 or so times.

Thanks for the reply.  One follow-up question (that I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to):
Let's say--hypothetically--that Marle's Magic would normally cap at ** at level 50.  But I use several magic tabs on her so she hits ** at level 40.  I assume her magic is no stronger at level 50 in this case?  That is, the max is ** whether hit early with the use of tabs or not?

I'll be browsing the Compendium shortly to come up with an answer on this.

But in the meantime, I have two questions on Tabs/Capsules in Chrono Trigger.

(1) I know how to obtain infinite Power Tabs in a single runthrough.  How about Speed and Magic tabs--are there any unlimited sources?
(2) Does the use of Power or Magic Tabs on a character affect how much Power/Magic they gain in subsequent level ups?  That is, is the increase permanent?

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / The DS Script
« on: October 05, 2012, 06:19:26 pm »
Out of curiosity, has anyone extracted (or can anyone extract) the complete script from the English DS version?  I'd love to see it lined up side-by-side against the original Japanese and Ted Woolsey's scripts in the spreadsheet KWhazit and Zeality put together.  I'd even be willing to work on it if someone can get the script to me.

Yep, I may have to do just that.  Anything to help encourage Squareenix to do a full modern makeover of CT/RD/CC or a new sequel :D

I've heard the same about the new quests...though I have to admit, the Dream Devourer and new equipment alone is enough to make me want to try the enhanced version.  And I'm curious about the monster battling portion.

Good to know!  Thanks.

It's interesting how Internet rumors can get started...first one site says "the Japanese CT was harder", and then suddenly the retranslation patch is solving that "problem".
I may have to install the user-made CT Hardtype patch for a little added challenge.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / I'm jealous.
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:47:39 am »
I just want to say that, as an owner of the original SNES version of Chrono Trigger, but not of a DS, I'm jealous of the extra content you DS owners get to experience.

That reminds me...I need to check if CT's been released on the PS3 yet.  If it has then I don't have any excuse to complain.   :o

I'm scouring the forums to see if this question's already been answered, but in the meantime...

I've decided to start a new playthrough of CT (SNES) after learning about KWhazit's literal translation patch.
On some sites, I've read that this patch not only retranslates the original Japanese script, but also restores the game's original difficulty level.  But the Compendium page itself makes no mention of this.  I'm hoping that it does restore the difficulty, but from the few battles I've experienced so far, the difficulty seems exactly the same as before.

Can anyone confirm whether this patch restores the original difficulty level?  If not, do any patches exist which do so?

The first time I played CT, I only really had problems with three bosses:
Dragon Tank (hadn't adequately prepared)
guardian of the Sunken Desert (can't recall the name); Why did I insist on taking him on the second the SD was accessible?
Golem Sisters

Most of those were due to lack of practice.  Nowadays the only one I ever have trouble with is Spekkio's final form, though I usually still beat 'im.

Yes, Haste still makes a huge difference at max speed, but, to me the mechanics seemed to work a little differently than what the above people are describing.  I did a battle with all characters at max speed and one character with the Angel's Tiara.  What I experienced was that on the first turn of battle, all characters became "ready" at the exact same time, but on every turn after that, the one with the Tiara was always ready twice as fast.

The fact that all the characters were ready at once is immaterial...all it really means is that all characters have a speed rating much greater than any of the enemies in that particular battle.

27
If I remember correctly, Haste gives either a 33% or a 50% boost to Speed rating.

If 50% is correct, then a Hasted character with 11 Speed should have the Wait gauge fill at nearly the same rate as someone with a 16 Speed.  A 16 Speed Hasted character would have the equivalent of 24 Speed.

If 33% is correct, then a Hasted character with 12 Speed should have the Wait gauge fill at the same rate as someone with a 16 Speed.  A 16 Speed Hasted character would have the equivalent of 21.33 Speed.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Who won? Magus or Frog?

1. I wasn't the one who struck it down. Sorry for not knowing.

2. I won't ask you to get rid of the codes, since someone might do it. It just won't be me since I don't have the necessary... materials, to do it with.

No worries!  No way you could have known (or needed to honestly).  I do have the necessary "materials" (real, not emulated) if no one else is interested in testing this out.

That's in-game statistics, which is unacceptable here.

Just because someone could kick Lavos' ass with just Magus doesn't mean "0/\/\6 /\/\@6U$ c@|\| t0t@11y p\/\/|\| 1@\/0$" is true.

What we're looking for is if Magus really could kick Lavos' ass on his own if these events were real instead of just another fight in an RPG game.

You must have missed the two indicators that I wasn't being serious.  1.  smileyface  2. follow up phrase of "Seriously though".  I wasn't suggesting that as a true answer here.  Sheesh.

"1. Try not to double-post. We have an Edit button, y'know."
I'm running on 32+ hours without sleep, normally wouldn't double post.  Sorry.

"2. Hack it since letting the comrades die won't cut it."
Agreed but the last time I suggested hacking, THAT was shot down as being unacceptable (unrelated post).

Here's how to "hack it" (actually use PAR codes) to achieve.  These instructions assume you have an endgame savestate so modify as needed.
1. Open any savestate with Glenn in character slot 1. Go to Truce 1000 AD.
2. Enter this PAR code, which resets game events: 7F000089
3. Enter the Truce Market, then enter these codes: C0102CDA, C09B47FF
4. Walk around in circles for a bit. You'll eventually appear in a wall in Magus' Castle. Walk thru the wall to an exit at the left. Enter it, then turn the codes from (3) off.
5. Get to Magus. When you see the line "Frog: MAGUS!!", enter these codes: 7E2981EE, 7E2982EE.

[Edit] Thinking this over, I realized it'd also be possible to do this WITHOUT an endgame savestate.  I haven't tested, but if you simply do step (5) during normal game events, you should achieve the same results.  This also has the advantage that Glenn will have more comparable stats (ie his stats won't be from much later in the game).

Then again, Glenn does have the Grandleon. Can anyone attempt to hack a Glenn-VS-Magus solo in the castle to see who would win? BTW, retries are not permitted. If you lose, it's Magus.

If you really want, then sure.  I've already done a Magus vs Magus.  Or you could just let Glenn's two comrades die early on and see who wins then.
