Characters, Plot, and Themes / Continuity of Radical Dreamers

True, but you wouldn't happen to have it sitting next to you, do you?  If you do, we can work this out now.  Otherwise, I guess we'll have to wait until 2300 or 2805 or whenever.

What does the matrix-ish theory have to do with solipsism?
As far as I know, solipsism is when everyone else is just a figment of your imagination, not a computer's, or anyone else's (thus the soli- meaning 'alone')

The Matrix-ish stuff is mostly just questioning reality.

Where I was going, though, is that from the point of view of each individual within this program, if RD really was just that, they are the only real thing there.  Building from the premise that "I think, therefore I am," each person there could reasonably assume that they exist (despite the fact that their thoughts are merely a part of the computer).  The same cannot be said for anything else, from their point of view.  But this is mostly a question of existance, which we cannot prove or disprove here, unless someone has a simulated world on their PC/Mac somewhere?

hmmmm Thats a good point. But then theres the philosophic question that even if it is a computer program Its still a "World" initself.

Here we venture into sollipsism.  After all, if the elements of the program (in this case, Kid, Serge, and Magil) don't realize that they're part of a program, does this diminish the meaning of their existance, and somehow take away something from the story?

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Zealian language

... Zealot is still more fun. ;)

In formal documents, though, Zealian is definitely the way to go.

Polling / 5/21/05 - How did you first learn about Chrono Cross?

Wow.... I honestly have no earthly idea how I heard of CC.  First thing I really remember about it was buying it in 01, 02, when I bought a PSOne, along with FF VII and FF VIII.

That's gonna bug me now...

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Debunking the Time Bastard Theory
« on: May 15, 2005, 12:34:43 am »
Shadow_dragon, you are correct in your understanding of the theory of Relativity in that, if you were travelling near the speed of light, you would age much less slowly.  It has to do with the warping of four-dimensional spacetime, since acceleration has the same effects as gravity does (or that gravity is the same as acceleration, either way).

However, that's not what gates appear to do.

Gates, it seems, are in essence wormholes in spacetime.  Think of spacetime as a sheet of paper.  Normally, you can only travel linearly - in any of three spatial directions, but always only in one direction temporally.  Wormholes are places where the paper has been folded and the two halves have been joined together to form a tunne, like such:

Now, if you were walking along the paper, you wouldn't see the hole, it would look like a continuous plane.  However, step through the hole and out the other side, and you're in a completely different place.  It would be like having a door in your house that opened up into the Kremlin, or the White House.

Now, what does this have to do with time travel?  Well, like I said, this paper is not just space, but spacetime.  When you stepped through that hole, you moved in all four dimensions, not just three of them.  And, before someone says it, yes, some gates do move through space as well as time, namely the red gate that Lucca used during the Entity/Save Lucca's Mom sequence.

*opens mouth, inserts foot*  That's what I get for not reading closely.  Yeah, I was thinking the US release.

And I'm willing to bet a 'wild card' is a blank cartridge used to write roms to to play on the actual SNES, right?  Or am I way off base?

Yeah, it was released on the SNES in 95 or 96.  I've got the original cart, myself.

because he was originally there before the Time Crash threw the entire location back in time.  And as for his being the Highwayman, do you really think that 10,000 or more years being stuck there would be good for the mind?

I read about it in Nintendo Power when they did that two issue spread in their Epic Center portion, giving a walkthrough from the beginning of the game up until the first battle with Magus.  Got hooked, even though I wouldn't get the game for another year, year and a half or so.

General Discussion / how good or evil is your name
« on: May 07, 2005, 01:40:17 am »
Well, the Litany against Fear from Frank Herbert's Dune is 99% good, 1% evil, as did John 3:16.  However, Ephesians 6:12 got a 33/67 split evil/good, and the phrase “All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu... This is the truth! This is my belief! ...at least for now" only got a 47/53 evil/good.

Probably closer to something like Cowboy Bebop than it is to Dragonball

Man, I wish I was any good at drawing... I've got some great ideas for those three locations, but both I can't draw worth a flip...  Maybe I'll write up some descriptions, let more artistically inclined people draw it

...so, who's up for creating a grand unified theory in half an hour?

Ooh, that sounds like fun.

But seriously, anyone who's hung around here for any length of time would realize how long it takes to get any theory accepted, much less to have one disproved.  Assuming that the "debunking" position has any merit at all, it could take months.  Even if it has no merit, this will most likely result in a slight rewrite.  But still, it's going to take months.
