General Discussion / RPG Trivia Topic

Well, technically you're supposed to wait until the answer is confirmed before posting another question.  But anyway...

There was only one obvious fact you missed: that Marle cites Kino as her ancestor, not Ayla.  We all assume that Ayla is the matriarch of this line, but it's not required.  So long as Kino lives long enough to have kids, the timeline is preserved.

As for Marle and Doan... I'm not sure about that one.  I'll get back to you on that.

In CT, I think I was using Crono, Marle, and Ayla first time through... rarely ever used Ayla since.  Most of the time I wind up with Marle, Lucca, and either Crono or Magus.

CC, it was Serge, Kid, and Glenn.  I remember it was like 3 AM when I finally did it, and it was the bad ending, too.  At that point, though, I didn't care.  I'd beat it, and I was happy.

Polling / Who's your favorite Acacia Dragoon?

I went with Dario.  To me, he seemed to be CC's analouge of Cyrus - the honorable knight helping along the struggling yet promising young student.  It's the type of character I've always had a soft spot for, and seeing him possesed by the evil Masamune at his end just makes it more tragic.

I think it could possibly work, but I have only one complaint: his head is too far around.  His chin seems to be along the same line as his shoulder, and while it is possible to do, it just seems really... unnatural.

Yeah, I'm sure that went over about as well as metric time did.  I mean, it was hard enough when Pope Gregory removed something like 17 days from one year to sync back up with the solar calendar (which not everyone did, btw), but to completely scrap a calendar?  Start renumbering years, yes.  Mess with the calendar itself? Not likely to be too successful there.

There shouldn't be any huge reason for Porre to change the calandar, as far as I'm concerned.  Just because an empire falls, donesn't mean you gotta change the system.  The roman empire fell how long ago?  It was like 40 A.D., right?  No one seemed too eager to change it.

*slaps forehead*  Gotta love our education system...

The Roman Empire did not fall in 40 AD.  It was just getting to the good part around then.

When the Roman Empire fell depends on what you see as the "fall."  Several smaller empires broke away circa 260 AD, but were recovered around 290.  However, the Roman government split around then into the Eastern and Western empires.  This could be called the fall of the empire.

Wait just a few years to 359 AD, and you could also call when the Emperor Constantine moved the entire Roman government from Rome to his new city of Constantinople in modern Turkey the "fall of the Roman Empire."

Or, if you want to just count when the last Emperor fell, that wouldn't be until 1453 AD, although the empire at that point had become known as the Byzantine Empire.

And, to cap all this off, the Romans didn't even use the BC/AD system.  They counted from the founding of Rome.  Year 1 ad urbe condita (Year 1 since the founding of the City) was about the year 753 BC according to their legends.  The dating system was changed by a bunch of monks sometime during the Renaissance.

Crimson Echoes / A proposal for the CE members who have AIM

I'm all for it.

I'll add my AIM into my profile now

In that case, there is no contradiction.  The story outline as recorded above just needs to be changed accordingly.

Not really a big deal, especially since this entire portion of the story is no where near the coding stage yet.

Possibly this could be attributed to Lavos' effects on the Queen?  In the original timeline, Lavos was helping to drive her insane, which led to his "accidental" death.  In the new timeline, with Lavos' influence diminished, the Queen does not go as insane, allowing the King to live.  Could probably be revealed by Schala, after talking to some of the fallen Enlightened Ones in 11,998 BC.

Chrono Compendium Discussion / name rankings?

It's a grouping based on the number of posts made.  Just something fun Zeality and Ramsus put in.

Some are specialized, like the three Gurus and the Entities.  Most of the site's population is grouped by posts, though.

I'm getting another copy of CT now to see if the Barracks lvl 2 problem persists.

Yeah, it works fine now.  Must've been something wierd with my version or something.

Also, the Truce couple's dialouge wasn't messed up either with my old rom or with this one.  Don't know where that one came from.

* Upper floor of Porre barracks is a blank, beige screen - major glitch

- Minor lighting glitches on first floor by the stairs in Porre Barracks
- During opening (before and after pendulum swing), partial cutscenes are visible
- Entering Medina Auxillary, hear a wind burst
- Organs heard upon entering Medina market
- Patrons of the bar in Medina (one says nothing, one needs dialouge fixed, woman floating)
- No name appears on Medina Ferry
- Walking through table legs in Vanguard patio
- Can partially walk underneath the uppermost statues in the Hall of Champions
- Random piece floating in BG3 in Hall of Heroes next to Lucca's statue
- Statues regain full, PC coloration briefly when exiting the menu screen
- Crono does not walk as sprite moves out of his house after speaking to Lucca
- Soldier at right stairwell in Guardia Castle; should be Marle
- Minor clipping as Escort runs in Deandoro

Non-bug, needs fixing anyway:
- Possible rewrite of the "A Time For War" passage in the Vanguard?  Slightly better wording, maybe
- Crono's Mom still references the Fair when giving allowance
- Invisible wall in front of left stairwell in Guardia Castle.  Possibly place Soldiers there?
- Possibly convert part of the world map near Porre to actual grassland?

Regarding your priestesses idea, I like it, and in an actual society it would be a very good idea.  However, in a game, people like that should serve an actual purpose which I don't think would be very feasible in this one.

And as for the male/female aspect of the Guru/Deva debate, I think that here is where it's arbitrary, so as to avoid confusion.  Whether CC used the term Deva correctly or not makes no difference, as it has been done and cannot be undone.  To call Dyasavah a Deva would cause confusion between the two groups, when none is intended.  Just because it's improper from a grammar point of view doesn't neccessarily mean that it can't be done, and besides, over intervening years, the title "Guru" in Calasperan could very well have become gender-neutral.  Languages do change over time.
