Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Crimson Echoes plothole discussion
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:26:05 am »
There's a technical limitation behind it:
2300's OW got replaced by the Lucca/Robo Reptite OW. So obviously we couldn't have the epoch going there. We also (atleast at the time) know how to make the epoch rereoute to the 1999 AD overworld. As I'm typing this I am asking myself why we didn't just put chronopolis OW over 2300 but......forget that for a second....
anyways after a little bit of worrying JLukas helped us figure out a way to hardcode 2300 as the "Overworld the epoch is currently in". Thus making the epoch just skip 2300 because it thinks you are already in it.
Heh, we are so clever. i guess.....what would have been ideal is hardcode 1999 as the era you are currently in so it skips that and put the Chronopolis overworld over the 2300 overworld.

I can accept that Belthasar convinced him about the greater good of science and everything, but the other two seemed more like that, Cakhula always struked me as more of an Azala type, but hey, that's just my opinion, and I can very much live either way, because Crimson Echoes story has delivered the goods thus far even more than I expected, and this chapter was just full of juicy win.
I don't really mind the idea of Belthasar wooing Cakhula especially since in chapter 12 you can sort of win her over if you make the right decisions. If I could go back though i'd have Crono or Marle have a better reaction.

Question: I never understood how the Masamune gets cursed, will it be explained in any way in CE?
That's really the end of the story for the masamune in CE. It was used in 605 AD by Kasmir and his gang and masa/mune get beaten by Kasmir at the fall of Guardia. Dalton takes it and it eventually makes it through the Porre army until we find it again in Chrono Cross. There is an optional ending with a little more info....

King Zeal had his own agenda though...

Did you have remaked Dalton ai to the the once-king one, or was still the king/plus ai?
You know, I think I only had to bump up his stats. I am pretty sure I didn't touch his AI....

I don't think it's really a plothole. His fate doesn't interpret the plot and everything gets reset. The main output of the Atash kedah was the Dragon Tooth getting sent to 3M BC and the flame using it to recreate reptites which basically is the catalyst leading to the Human-Reptite War which we see the outcome of in Marle's reptite chapter.
Personally I think that the Atash Kedah only injured lavos, some people think that it killed lavos it's up to the player.
That being said if people want to write fanfics on that timeline I won't send you a C & D
....maybe it delayed the apocalypse and lavos will rise in Reptite Timeline 2999.

« on: June 12, 2009, 01:01:42 pm »Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there is no need for that? Marle does not has any memory
about being threw to jail, because she is another version of Marle from another timeline aka Masamuneless timeline. The Marle who died at prison is from Reptite timeline, and sent into DBT thanks to CMG interfering King Zeal, thus altering the Reptite timeline.
Marle has no memory of that, but Cakulha certainly should. He is supposed to be one that threw Marle in jail and went back to 2305 AD.
And so does Crono. Plus he told her about it at the beginning of chapter 12.

« on: June 12, 2009, 12:28:16 pm »This is where Belthasar reels Cakulha in? I guess I always thought that Belthasar/Agent 12 skillfully exploited Cakulha's love of science when they encountered him, and his sheer curiosity tamed him.
I'll let Z answer (this was his scene). I tended to agree with FW's explanation here. I don't really think chapter 12 would have happened like what we saw since the Central Regime is so different (there was no Vanguard anymore with the Masamune back). I'm not even sure we mention rebels until the Vanguard appear.
That being said we atleast should have had a better Marle reaction since he threw her in a jail to die.....

« on: June 12, 2009, 04:07:41 am »a little bit of comedy in an otherwise tragic scene. this chapter probably was the defining chapter of echoes.
Yea, I felt like it was important to have some funny CTesque scenes in this otherwise depressing chapter.
I'm not going to lie I still laugh when Taban catches that Porre guard, and root for Gato in Leene Square.
Fun Fact: I thought about having Gato get killed there (a la Robo in CT) and then bringing him into Lucca's house to get repaired (again....similar to CT).

99's polish is what makes the game good. I focused on getting the overall picture done, making sure the skeleton code was there, that battles were triggered in the right spot, getting dialogue/cutscenes in, basic maps etc.
But none of that matters if the game look good/ flow well and that's where Chrono'99 just.....went above and beyond my wildest dreams.

I'm so glad C99 convinced me to do it his way

But early is always awesome! Just keep that in mind.
Haha, whoops I meant this chapter. This chapter went had a huge last minute change that I was against. But Chrono'99 won out in the end.

Well...considering we wanted to release the walkthrough with the game we had to do it before 100%.....
Also I guess technically this is like....95%.... You'll notice several times in the commentary I say something like "Ugh I thought we fixed that"....well truthfully we probably had actually fixed it but not while FW was making the walkthrough.

I don't consider a video walk through to be work on CT:CE....All copies of CT:CE have been destroyed, as well as "ROM hacks". I also have several pictures of CT:CE which I consider to be fine.
This coupled with the fact that there were several video trailers, and videos of the Demos which the C&D did not mention, as well as the fact that it is a totally different medium makes me think that videos are ok. Not to mention the fact that YouTube is pretty infamous for taking down videos when copyright owners ask.
Don't confuse our compliance with the C&D as us not caring about the project. We are going to let Crimson Echoes story be known were just not going to risk 150,000 dollars to do it.
--JP
EDIT: Also Acacia is speaking the truth up these videos were planned to be released with the game as a "video walkthrough". We planned this when we had a ton of people constantly asking "where's dalton's dungeon" after the demo was released.
