The real problem is with Doan though. Crono and Marle both travel into their future without jeopardizing Doan's existence.

Yes, this is a major problem.  I tend to believe that the best resolution to this problem is that Doan isn't Marle's descendant.  However, I will have to replay the game or check the script before I firmly adopt this position.

Marle: Please!

Hard to ignore hard facts like that.

Cut me some slack, will you? Of course I remember that particular bit of dialogue!  But is it really evidence?  The endings in CT are all exaggerated to some degree or another.   (Do you really think Crono's mom gets sent back in time? ) Why do we assume that the Beyond Time ending is canon?  Even if we take that leap, we must acknowledge that the king simply calls them kinsmen and that it is Marle who assumes he means that they are direct descendants.  Who knows.  What I do know is that the King's statement cannot correct unless we accept that time travel in Chrono Trigger is inherently FUBAR.

Please note that I do concede that King Guardia XXI is Marle's direct ancestor.  This creates an unavoidable time travel paradox.  I suppose that if I must accept one paradox, I may as well accept another--and equivalent--paradox and assume for now that Doan is in fact Marle's direct descendant.)

Just because people think she's dead doesn't mean that the Time Egg would work...As stated, it don't work that way.

I know.  My limerick was not meant to express my or anyone's opinion; rather, it was meant to show off my literary flare.  (I'll admit in this case my flare flat out fizzled.   )

Also...morale-a, huh...noice.

Isn't moon isle where you find her lying?  My memory's fuzzy, but doesn't that little patch of land look like a crescent?  Maybe she's jsut referring to the little area right there, rather than another separate island.

Can somebody confirm this?  What a stroke of genius this idea would be if the little island in the centre of Water Dragon Isle were crescent-shaped.

I sure as hell don't!

EDIT: I am off to work now, but I have an argument outlined in my mind. I'll post it later. I also have an alternative solution...sort of. Furthermore, my argument will show that several of the "axioms" aren't always true. (I'm pretty sure Sentenal will get a kick out of this.)

2) Sir Frog, not to bash you or anything...But I really hate your posts that start "I don't think so!" and end with "I'll post my arguement as to why later!".

I do that way too much, I know.  In my defence, it takes me quite a while to write out a well-reasoned argument. What invariably happens is that I log in to the Compendium with what I believe is a fantastic idea, only to get sidetracked.  On the one had I apologize, but on the other I believe that, even if I do not contribue too much as far as analysis goes, I serve to facilitate discussions.  For that reason, I do not feel that my presence on the Compendium is redundant.  (And of course, I am going to follow up on everything I've said I'd follow up on!)

For the record, I am exceedingly busy right now as I am heading off to the UK for school in under two weeks and I have about two months' worth of work to do before then.

I may be wrong, but, I don't think SilentMartyr was talking about your post...I think he was just talking about in general about what people had said previously...

I agree. I was just making it clear that I did not wish to have my distinct opinions relegated to the "general" opposition of SilentMartyr's point of view...but in light of the first half of this post, I can see that perhaps my opinions have not been all that distinct as of late.

There are some similarities, of course, but there are far, far more differences.  For instance, only one of them is an affected metrosexual poseur.

Well, for one, Ayla travels into her future without jeopardizing Marle's existance.  (Poor Marle, must she always be threatened?)

No saying it is a paradox is a much better explination.

I never said the situation was a paradox.  (Or at least I never intended to convey that!) The only thing that is a paradox in the matter at hand is Lucca's explanation...but everyone here seems to agree that Lucca was incorrect.

Anyway, see my above post.  It's been edited.

Do reconcile it in a better way, if you can. That theory is the result of a thread on the old Compendium that took the better part of a month before we gave up.

Well, at least you recognize that "the Entity did it" is a cop-out.  

I will take you up on your challenge, BTW.  

More accurately, things don't happen until someone travels through time to make them happen. Before Crono went to the millennial fair, there is no record of his presence in the past. But the instant Crono traveled to 400 AD, all of his actions in that time period instantly appeared on the timeline.

...Close enough.

OK.  I guess I misunderstood you.  I thought you were saying that, while you agree with Shadow in the abstract, you do not believe his views are consistent with the Chrono games.  

2) I thought the Marle disappearence was about the Entity wisking here away from harm while Crono, Lucca and Frog finish off Yakra and free Lenne.

A lot of people seem to believe that now.  I think it's a bunch of baloney.

Actually, I completely agree with Shadow Dragon.  Indeed, he seems to be the only person I have encountered here so far who truly understands what a timeline is.  As for your comments, Lordchander, I do not believe that "in the Chronoworld, things [don't] happen till they happen." The only part of the game that I can think of that is consistent with your view is the Marle disappearance...but we've already brushed that paradox (and truly it is a paradox) under the rug.
