Chrono Cross Modification / Chrono Cross Model Importer for Blender
« on: January 29, 2009, 12:56:49 am »
The Chrono Cross Model Importer is a Blender import plugin that allows users to import Chrono Cross models for viewing and manipulation in Blender, a free, open source, cross-platform 3D modeling application. The plugin is a Python script.

The most recent version of the script is v0.4.0, released 29 Jan 2009. With this version the rest state of all model files (battle and overworld) are viewable with textures. Due to Blender's difficulties with transparency, some of the models will appear somewhat different.

See the attachments at the end of this post to download. The script is provided in the ZIP compressed format. Instructions for installation and use can be found within the script file. Feedback and questions are encouraged.

This post will be updated as future versions of the script are released.

Changelog

v0.4.0: 2009.01.29
  • Ground-up rewrite to take advantage of Python's object-oriented capabilities.
  • Modified to be able to handle models with multiple textures.
  • Modified to be able to handle textures of varying size.
  • Improved console output to facilitate debugging.

v0.3.1: 2008.05.27
  • Steps to improve Blender viewing of models: turn off mipmapping and interpolation, enable transparency in rendering.

v0.3.0: 2008.05.14
  • Fixed remaining bugs in vertex unpacking; all models' vertices and faces are now viewable with 99% accuracy.
  • Deferred attempt to derive armature from joint data.

Chrono Cross Modification / 3D File Formats for Cross Models
« on: January 17, 2009, 12:17:47 pm »
I am working on a script to convert the Cross model files to more usable formats. These files will become a part of the Compendium's encyclopedia.

One such format will definitely be the .blend files that Blender uses. The choice of Blender was made because of its FOSS status, meaning that anyone can legally download a copy and use it to view the model files. (Of course, it certainly helps that I like Blender.) However, I know that a number of people prefer other 3D modeling software. I am hoping my batch script can take advantage of other Blender scripts to convert to other formats, but I don't know which formats people use. That's where this poll/thread come in.

I will base my choice(s) on the feedback I get in the next few days. I am by no means an expert in 3D file formats, so feel free to post about any that I missed.

Submissions / Lucca and Nadia - My first drawings
« on: May 22, 2008, 10:03:27 pm »
I used part of the recent interim of Chrono Cross model extraction as an opportunity to take an initial step into drawing. Below are the first sketches I think are at least somewhat worthy of public consumption. When I'm a little more experienced with line art I'll hopefully come back and color these.

Comments welcome.

I've been working on this off and on for the past few months: arranging the Chrono Trigger theme based on the version heard in the Play! symphony. This is what I've come up with so far:

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Cinema
« on: June 03, 2007, 10:46:08 pm »
Hello everyone! I'm here to give a progress report on my Chrono fan project, recently renamed Chrono Cinema.

Right now the focus of the project is on the development of the screenplay for a Chrono Trigger movie trilogy. The first draft of Part I of this trilogy, tentatively subtitled Courage and Pride, was completed in January. The draft stands at 111 pages and can be found in multiple formats at the following link:

Chrono Trigger Part I: Courage and Pride

Now that summer is here, we are working diligently on Part II, which has a working title of Mystery of the Past. The script of Part II to date can be found at the following link, which will be updated as more of the script is completed:

Chrono Trigger Part II: Mystery of the Past

The official forum of our project can be found at the link below. I would love to increase the forum's active membership from the two we currently have, so if you're interested in our effort, come on over and get involved. Either way, I encourage you to share your thoughts with us, whether they be ideas, opinions, (constructive) criticisms, or perhaps the occasional compliment.

Cheers!

« on: August 05, 2006, 07:33:44 pm »
I spent the better part of today recreating the Chrono Trigger logo as vector art in OpenOffice.org Draw. The result is attached to this post in PDF format. Feel free to comment and use. I can also provide the ODG file if desired.

Fan Project News/Updates / Chrono Script Draft Now Available
« on: June 27, 2006, 11:44:05 pm »
Hello! I am here to announce tangible progress on my fan project, Chrono Script! My goal is to develop the story of Chrono Trigger (and perhaps Chrono Cross too) into a well-crafted screenplay that accurately captures all that made the game(s) so great.

The latest draft of my Chrono Trigger script will always be accessible here. Currently the script covers through the first trip to 600 AD. I encourage everyone to have a read and give feedback either in this thread, via PM, IM, email, or by visiting the official forum. Also feel free to check back from time to time to see what's new.

I am always interested in having more help. Chrono Script is an open project, meaning that everyone is welcome to come and go as necessary and to put as much effort in as desired. If you're interested, come on over to the forum, or at least let me know so I can inform you when updated drafts become available.

Cheers!

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / The Future of the Flash Series
« on: April 25, 2006, 12:47:59 am »
Don't know if anyone will read this, but here it is anyway.

I am in the process of spinning off the script development part of the Flash Series into a standalone project, which I tentatively titled Chrono Script. Ideally work on this project will be done on the forum I made. My hope is that the development of a strong Chrono Trigger screenplay will foster the successful completion of a movie/TV/series of some form.

Anyone is welcome to help, so register at the forum if you're interested. (If you can't register, let me know.)

I hope that you'll give it some thought. We can do this, people! :D

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Script
« on: April 08, 2006, 11:32:18 am »
Hello everyone!

I am currently planning a new effort to adapt Chrono Trigger to a screenplay format. I have tentatively titled this new project Chrono Script.

I am not sure exactly what form the final result will take. However, I do know that I want the script to include almost all of the game. Therefore I intend to let it find its own length rather than try to force things to a certain time limit.

I am looking for people who want to help with this project. This is an open invitation to anyone and everyone, and I hope you consider lending your talents.

If you want to help, please register at the Chrono Script forum and introduce yourself.

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / News post Friday
« on: February 28, 2006, 11:11:49 pm »
In case you missed it, ZeaLitY is going to make a news post encouraging people to join the Flash Series and a similar project run by Namara to make the Chrono Symphonic Movie. This announcement will be on Friday. Hopefully we'll get a lot of interest, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / Episode Scripts
« on: January 28, 2006, 06:06:40 pm »
All of my episode drafts in their most current forms can be accessed from this web page, along with commentary on each:

http://www.tc.umn.edu/~alle0438/ctflash/episodes/

Read them. Suggest ways to make them better. Please. Change whole scenes if you have to. Don't be shy. Anything and everything will be given proper consideration.

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / Episode I: The Millennial Fair
« on: January 11, 2006, 01:29:33 pm »
Episode I will cover from the time Crono wakes up in his bed to after the Telepod scene.

Here's the link to what we had before:

Episode I - The Millennial Fair

If you haven't read it (or have forgotten what was in it) I might suggest that you take a few minutes and think about how you would go about writing this episode first. Maybe outline and describe the scenes you would include.

I'm always open to exploring other ways of doing things, so feel free to suggest scenes and dialogue to add/remove/expand/shorten/rework/etc. Constructive criticism is also welcome.

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / Script Respones (Universal Episode Thread)
« on: December 27, 2005, 02:03:42 am »
Lordchander: This thread will be used univerally for ALL Scripts/Episodes instead of clogging up the stickied Episode Threads.
In each response, please specify which Script/Episode you are responding too.  :D

Use this thread to post any thoughts you have on the script and/or respond to those already posted.

Like I've mentioned before, I wrote drafts of several episodes over the fall semester. In my writing I've come up with a number of observations:

- My Frog dialogue could use some work. I think I've emulated how Frog speaketh in the game okay, but I'm afraid it'll sound ridiculous when spoken by the voice actor.

- Fighting through areas is hard to write for. I often found myself skipping dungeons (e.g. Manoria Cathedral, the jailbreak, Lab 16).

- Boss battles will need to be coreographed. (So far I've passed Yakra, the Dragon Tank, the Guardian, and the R Series.)

- I've been having the characters learn or reveal techs in a way that supplements the story. For example, Marle reveals a little about her relationship with her parents after casting Aura.

I'll think of some more later, when I'm more awake.[/b]

Kajar Laboratories / The CT Flash Series has returned!
« on: December 19, 2005, 08:04:41 pm »
The CT Flash Series has returned!

As before, our goal is to create a series of Flash movies detailing and expanding the incredible story that is Chrono Trigger, using a full cast of voice actors!

We are nearly ready to resume production; however, our team seems to be a bit small. Therefore, we are looking for new recruits for one or more of the following teams:

Scripting
Graphics
Audio
Flash

In addition, we are looking for one very motivated individual to be the leader of the Audio team. The main tasks of this team are: casting the various roles, getting the voice parts from the cast, sound effects, the soundtrack, etc.

If you are interested in any position, I encourage you to give some form of justification of why you would make a good team member. Samples of your work and/or detailing of experience are a few suggestions of this.

To apply or ask questions, you can post in this thread or contact me via PM, email, or AIM using the appropriate links in my profile.

(If would like to be in the cast, please hold your voice samples for just a little longer. If you are already in the cast, expect to hear from one of us sometime soon.)
