Polling / 3/25/06 - What do you use the encyclopedia for?
« on: March 19, 2006, 08:53:22 pm »
I mainly use it for the scripts, as we base EVERYTHING we have off of those two silly little things.
Once in awhile I'll look at specific info on random NPC's, etc.

Yes Dewey, we will adapt sooner or later; but will the planet? Will the properties of ice just change to adapt to the rising heat levels? No? Good work! Have you heard of the droughts here? Some "professional scientists" (hey that guy looked stoned!) say that "its normal, and the low temperatures before were just abnormal" but of course it is a blatant lie.
The planet will survive, I assure you of that. If you don't remember... well none of us do, but the planet WAS once nothing but a giant boiling lava, magma-flowing, volcano-erupting firey pit of hell. And it was also a nicely ice-covered tundra. So, the planet is going to survive, I assure you of that. The question is are we going to be able to adapt to it.
And Grey, that wasn't an attack, it was more just of a "funny" post. I'm obviously not serious in the slightest bit.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Most useless character(s)?
« on: March 16, 2006, 12:48:45 pm »
I've ALWAYS hated the "blue-magic" characters in games. Quistis, Quina, (Hey... I JUST noticed this... more than a coincidence?) etc. Blue Magic is not my thing, I'm not sure why. Sprigg basically falls into that category, so I hate her. I've used her once just to see what I'd be like to play as the Mystics, after that I've never touched her.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Missed opportunities in CC

I'd say Sage of Marbule here. At this point, the game is already oversaturated with members/ex-members of the Arcaadian Dragoons, or someone relating to them. Karsh, Marcy, Viper, ZOAH, Radius, etc. The Sage I think could've helped a lot with a part of the story that could've been a lot more developed had he been in the party.

The problem is not that people will drop dead due to global warming, but that it will cause sea level rise, drought, more frequent and intense storms, and the spread of infectious diseases.
Boo-hoo. Evolve and grow some more hair for warmth, or maybe some ills or something.

I don't know many facts about global warming, but I do know a few.
1) There are people flipping out, because we won't be able to survive on a planet that's 10,000 hotter than it is now.
2) The overall temperature of the earth has risen some ridiculously low number, something like 1 degree, over the last 30 years.
Now think about this for a second. If the Eath's temperature raises 10,000 degrees, will it kill us off? Well, if it hapenned TOMORROW, yes. But it's not. It raising about 1 degree (and I'll give some benefit of the doubt here) every 10 years. Guess what? We can adapt and evolve to that, very easily. It shouldn't be a problem.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / discuss? help?
« on: March 15, 2006, 01:17:31 pm »
I've never watched anime really.. I mean I've seen a couple random individual episodes of no particular show just because nothing else hapenned to be on at 1 AM, but that theory sounds exactly like the whole story behind Full-Metal Alchemist. The quote in the beginning says something to the effect of "For every positive thing that happens, an equally negative action must occur for the world to balance out." or something along those lines.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Favorite Party to use? (CC/CT)
« on: March 14, 2006, 05:11:59 pm »
I've always been a sucker for using a party that's crucial to the storyline, rather than characters that have cool spells/attacks/do better in battle.
CT - Crono, Lucca, Marle is always my party for Lavos.
CC - Serge, Kid, then depending on the scenario, the third slot goes to either Glenn, Guile, or Harle.
FF6 - Tina/Celes/Locke/Edgar
FF7 - Cloud/RedXIII/Tifa
FF8 - don't care, I played the game once trhough and hated it.
FF9 - Dagger/Zidane/Vivi/Steiner
FF10 - see FF8.
Basically, with a few exceptions, I primarily use the characters you get at the beginning of the game.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / CT Last Names
« on: March 14, 2006, 05:04:18 pm »Quote from: Darth Mongoose
Sadly the Japanese version sheds no light on Crono or Glenn's surnames, I guess because they're not important...Unless 'Glenn' is Glenn's second name, which isn't impossible, since they call him 'Sir Glenn' and often young men of educated or noble backgrounds in the past (or even today in England in some places) call each other by their surname (lots of my Brother's friends call him 'Holden' rather than 'Joe'.) ...Of course, if Glenn's second name is 'Glenn'...what would his first name be!?
I'd have to disagree here. Your point about Sir Lastname is valid. However, keep in mind a few things.
1) Cyrus, as a teen, referred to his younger brother as Glenn. Referring to your younger brother by their last name, especially at that age, is doubtful.
2) NPCs refer to Cyrus as "Sir Cyrus". If they went by last name, they would, too, have called him "Sir Glenn".

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Most useless character(s)?
« on: March 14, 2006, 05:00:04 pm »
Funny, there's only what, seven double techs in the entire game? And of the five characters you listed, three of them are involved into Double-techs.
Leah and Draggy have one.
Mel and Kid have Double Take.
Neofeo and Turnip have one.
Leah isn't entirely useless even aside from the Double-Tech, in the sense that she adds somethign to the story.

isn't there more than 3?
the RD text in Chronopolis?
That's something "completly" different... sort of.
What's being discussed here is specifically what timelines are condensed into the Dead Sea. The RD Text found on the 4th floor or whatever is FATE's record of a different DIMENSION. Keep in mind, FATE's primary location in Chronopolis in one dimension is where the Dead Sea exists in another.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Epoch as a FTL device?
« on: March 13, 2006, 04:37:55 pm »
As for why the Epoch couldn't travel to ANY time period, there's a few explanations.
1) The game-mechanics explanation: Obviously you can't program an infinite amount of time periods.
2) Story-explanation: Belthasar put those time periods into the machine, knowing those were the necessary periods to be able to travel to to eventually defeat Lavos.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / the letter Luccia gave Kid
« on: March 13, 2006, 04:33:13 pm »
This did appear in a thread a few months ago. There is, indeed, another shadow that appears where a third character would be standing. I believe the general consensus was that a character was supossed to be standing there, but they took it out later on the game.
In fact, now that I think about it, it might have to do with the fact that Grobyc stands in that spot, but either bad programming or a minor bug prevented the circle from disappearing when he's no longer there.
