Kajar Laboratories / Where do you get RPGMaker..
« on: August 11, 2005, 04:43:12 pm »
I'm not sure if you guys are using the same one, but there appears to be one out there that you pay a ton of money for, and what I'm assuming is a free one.  Where did you guys get it?  (The free one... if there is such a thing).

Chrono Trigger Modification / Can't get TF to run!
« on: August 11, 2005, 01:33:50 pm »
I installed that SDK ver 1.1.  I went to my add-remove programs, and its listed under currently installed programs.  I unzipped TF 1.1, and when I try to run it, it says it couldnt find some file in the sdk1.1 folder... what's going on?!?!

(I'm getting really, really pissed at this thing right now.)

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Speed Runs
« on: August 09, 2005, 10:25:29 pm »
I'm a huge fan of gaming speed runs.  The only ones I've really ever attempted are Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3.  I own them.  Don't mess with me on them.  I frequent planetquake.com, which has speed runs for tons of games, but none for Trigger Cross.

I'm wondering if CT and CC are speed runnable?  If so, they'd have to fall into different categories.

Trigger
Fast Run Starting with a fresh game, time it takes to beat Lavos.  Must revive Crono.

Quests Run Fresh game, must complete ALL sidequests.

Power Run Start with New Game + at any desired level.  Must complete all sidequests in game.  I think this would be the only way to do a new Game + run, because then basically the game would come down to everyone running right into the telepod, and seeing how fast they can beat Lavos.  Another option is to have a cap starting level (ex: 60).

Cross
Fast Run Fresh game, must use Cross to free Schala.

Power RunNew game + (possible cap level), must use Cross to free Schala.

I'm wondering how interesting the runs could be.  I think the biggest turning point would be how people approach different enemies, as in defeating them, running away from certain ones but not gaining exp, etc.  As far as actually running through the game, it's pretty much be the same until you get to the sidequests.

The problems rely in reliability.  First off, I don't think anyone would use PSX.  I THINK the loading times for battles actually does cut into clocktime, which would be an automatic bad time for anyone using one.  Then you get to the people using SNES or roms.  Roms could be a real problem, between the hacking and the savestates.  But, I think if people were completly reliable and trustworthy, we could have some interesting competitions.   :D

Edit: The last two paragraphs obviously only apply to CT.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Various Temporal Flux Questions
« on: August 09, 2005, 01:33:19 pm »
I'm starting up training myself in Temporal Flux, I have a few questions:

1) Is the latest version out 1.1?  I'm seeing lots of posts about ver 2.0 but it doesn't appear to be out anywhere.

2) Can you import songs from other games?  (I think the file names are .src... for example, could I import an .src from FFVI?)

3) Is importing a lot of sprites feasbile?  I ask for the following reason.  I need someone to sprite art for me a new character... but I'm not gonna bother asking until I have a good amount of the game done, instead of wasting people's time.  So my idea was, use Robo as a placeholder, then once the sprites are done, use them and re-write over each of Robo's with it.  Is that doable?  Seems to me like the most efficient way to do it.  (Robo's sprites won't be used in the game, so writing over them isn't gonna bite my in the @$$ or anything.)

4) In the actual running of TF itself.. I downloaded v1.1, and read about how you gotta have some sort of program that you can get from Windows Update.  I run WU all the time anyway, and did it again just to make sure, but I still don't have the specific application I need to run it (and I tried anyway, TF won't run)... so what am I doing wrong with WU?

General Discussion / Taco Bell's "New" Item
« on: August 07, 2005, 11:15:16 am »
Within the last two months or so, Taco Bell as been advertising their "Crunch Wrap Supreme".  The best way I can describe it is as a pentagonal burrito with the ingredients of a taco, plus what I believe is a special sauce.

I would like to make a petition to officially declare the "Crunch Wrap Supreme" as the greatest food of all time.  I mean, I enjoy tacos.  I'm not a huge Taco Bell fan (mainly because I'm really picky about working out and eating right), but I do enjoy Taco Bell.  But this thing is &#$%^*! AMAZING.  It is SOOOOO good.  This is why I think it is genius.

1) Has the ingredients of a Taco.  Wow, you defintly can't go wrong there.
2) Instead of a taco shell, they put it inside what I think is just a large burrito.  Brilliant.
3) PENTAGONAL SHAPE.  If there's a cheap way to get suckers like me that don't know any better to rebuy the same item, pentagonal shape is the way to go.  They should do this with everything.  Could you imagine a pentagonal Big Mac?  How about a pentagonal hotdog?
4) A special sauce (I think... it might actually jsut be me adding hotsauce to it and have everything
melt together holy crap soooo gooooooooodddd

Honestly, if you haven't gotten one yet, leave right now.  Don't even reply to this post.  If you have, please, share your thoughts.

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Does the Entity exist?
« on: August 07, 2005, 12:57:16 am »
It seems like the Entity is brought up a lot.  Pretty much every topic has a mention of "her", tying "her" into the topic either very strongly, or quite vaguely, despite the enormous lack of information we have on "her".

Tons of huge events are tied into the Entity.  Some people speculate the only true "plot hole" of Mare disappearing in 600 A.D. is due to the Entity interfering.  Some people say Marle disappeared through Lucca's telepod due to the Entity having a say in it.  People say the Entity made the gates.

My question is, is there even enough evidence to support that the Entity exists?  Here is the only dialogue we have with the Entity in the game:

Quote
Robo: I have come to think that
someone, or something wanted us to
   see all this.

The different events over time, that
   we have witnessed.
It is almost as if some entity wanted
   to relive its past.

Quote
Frog: Lavos playeth an integral
role in the fortunes of this Entity...

Magus: ...so who is this Entity?

Robo: It is unknown, whose
memories these are. It may be
   something beyond our
   comprehension.

Our journey may come to an end
when we finally discover the identity
   of the Entity.
... ...shall we turn in for the night?

Quote
Lucca: Do you remember that talk
   we had?

Marle: You mean about whether
our lives flash by before we die?

Lucca: Yeah. I get the feeling that
the «Entity» is finally at rest.

Marle: Yes, I feel that too...

Quote

Lucca: I thought Lavos made the
   Gates...
But I guess I was wrong.

Marle: What do you mean?

Lucca: I think a greater force
   wanted us to experience those
   events.

The Entity is brought up quite suddenly, with no real trigger for it.  There's no specific hints leading up to it, its just brought up, out of nowhere, on a sidequest.  None of them find any more evidence of an entity during the course of the game.

Now, the way I see it is, this was put in to serve as a parallel to how many people think nowadays.  Is there a God?  Did He put me here, on Earth, for a specific reason?  What's the purpose of life?

In my opinion, I don't think there is neccessarily an Entity, but rather, this is just showing how the characters "are jsut like us", in that they don't understand what's going on, why they're the ones doing all of this, and how they're not sure if there's a greater power out there watching over them.[/quote]

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / seeing "glenn"
« on: August 07, 2005, 12:25:15 am »
You know, I've lietrally beaten Chrono Trigger upwards of 300 times by now, but I've never gotten the ending where you see Glenn in his human form.  After you beat Magus (as Frog) when in the game do you have to defeat Lavos?

I'm not completly up to par on Lavos and his PD, and the TD in the DBT... so clarify these few things for me:

1) assuming Crono+co defeat Lavos 1999AD after he errupts from earth;  IMO, Lavos, upon erupting, leaves the PD, and Crono+co defeat him.  So, after his defeat, Crono and Co go back in time... would Lavos still be in the earth's core during 1000 AD (600ad, etc)?  I say yes.

2)   It's my understanding that the DBt moves slower in regards to the normal timeline, but is parallel to all of time.. or something like that.... and the defeat of the TD completly erases it from all timelines, correct?

3) I'm under the assumption Schala merges to form the TD during the Ocean Palace disaster... so is it correct to say that she is part of the TD from 12,000 on?

Once again, I believe most of theese to be at least mostly correct, but asking for clarification because I'm not compltely sure.  thanks.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Making a fan game
« on: July 20, 2005, 10:33:50 pm »
I have the near full-script and direction for my fan game planned out.  Obviously, its a Chrono Trigger sequel.  My question mainly concerns what tools I should use.

Temporal Flux (i think) sounds intriguing... pros are that you'll already have a vast amount of the sprites and other things you'll need for the Chrono universe... but looking at screen shots of coding it seems that maybe its too complicated?

RPG Maker (whatever the hell build they have out now) seems to me to be more fit.  Maybe its easier to start from scratch than have to worry about rearranging everything?  And it seems plain out easier to use?

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

One more note, I do have some basic programming experience.

Other Topics and the Prerelease / CC Inquiries
« on: March 28, 2005, 12:42:17 pm »
I'm not sure if in #6 that huge quote was part of your answer, or jsut evidence leading us in the right direction...

anyway, I remember in an interview one of the directors saying originally they did have 12 dragons, but then spilt them between the two dimensions.  I think that originally there was one complete form, then split up into 6.  When the timelines split, FATE was aware of this dimensional distortion of sorts, and, in attempt to further weaken them, killed off the unnecessary ones.  Wrong?  probably, jsut my thought though.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / One scene I just DONT get...
« on: March 28, 2005, 01:27:55 am »
After you defeat Magus, and before you wake up in Ayla's hut, there's a little sequence where Marle wakes Crono up in his house.  What the hell does this mean?  I've played through the game literally close to 150 times, and STILL don't understand it.  It seems to me like its a dream, but also a pointless one with no plot significance.

The closest I've come to is it foreshadowing the ending where Crono wakes up and the soldiers tell Crono he's going to be executed... but I doubt that would be it... foreshadowing the ending is kinda lame..

I've also thought maybe this part was horribly lost in translation.

anyway, any theories?

Hey, brand new to the boards.

Anyway, I first got hooked on CT after I dled as a ROM.  Naturally, I would fool around with the backgrounds all the time.  The weird things I saw were things like the three little girls tanding behind the "Xabie" door until Robo unlocks it.

But the one that might have the most meaning is the one I found of Schala.  Way before CC came out (don't have a pic, this was more than 6-7 years ago).

Anyway, in one of the locations you meet Lavos (I believe it was Black Omen after it rose), if you fool around with the background, Schala is sitting randomly behind it.  It might have actually been the Mammon Machine as well.  But its jsut interesting, because if we could validate this, it could prove that the Chrono team knew exactly where Schala went the entire time, and threw her there as an easter egg, that no one would be able to find.

Obviously I didn't think of it as anything at the time, but after CC came out and I remembered that, it got me thinkin.
