Since I've done this little reboot, I have a few gameplay changes I can make before I get too far in development. Here's my question to the Compendium:

Would you rather the HP cap for PCs be in the thousands, or max out at 999 like in Chrono Trigger? Same goes with magic.

It doesn't matter to me. I was just playing CT a minute ago and thought 'I can do that!'.

Thanks again, guys. :D

Site Updates / Expansion of Fan Projects Encyclopedia
« on: January 07, 2011, 02:26:18 am »
Aloha! Lance VII here, Fan Game Advocate and Designer!

I've been working with the Encyclopedia lately, and I've been working on adding a much more expansive section for Fan Games. I'm planning on adding separate pages for underway projects, finished projects, and dead/cancelled/stalled projects. On top of that, for certain projects that have shown a lot of progess (ex: Chrono Shift, Chrono Trigger 2: Time's Eclipse, Epoch Battle, Chrono Ark, Etc), I will be giving them their own full encyclopedia pages.

I'm hoping this will generate more interest in the absolutely amazing fan made games being made here lately. If you want your project to have it's own page, please shoot me and message and I'll review the project. For now, the criteria is simple;
For a game WITHOUT a playable Demo/Full Game

*Please send me at least two full, 4-5 sentence paragraphs describing your game and it's features.
*Please send me at least three (3) screenshots of your project. Art and title screens not running in-game do not count. It needs to be IN-GAME.

For games including a Demo/Full Games
*Please include one full, 4-5 sentence paragraphs describing your game and it's features.
*Please send me at least three (3) screenshots of your project. Art and title screens not running in-game do not count. It needs to be IN-GAME.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support for fan-games.

And I hope you guys like Sepia toned flashbacks. There's one of them in the first chapter.

I should have the entire first chapter FINISHED by Saturday at the latest. I hope to have a good bit of Chapter 2 done by that time as well.

Cheers to progress!

Chrono Trigger: Prelude to a Dream RPGMaker Project / Story Tidbits!
« on: December 25, 2010, 12:49:46 pm »
With the school semester finally over, I can now play Harvest Moon: Animal Parade work on Chrono Trigger 2!

I've been adding the finishing touches to the story, and ohhhh man, it's gonna be a blast.

Here are a few confirmations:

*King Zeal is NOT the villain.
*We will see Crono's Father at some point.
*Robo's Creation will be shown
*I'm think 17 Chapters will be the number.

Just so small tidbits, but I think it'll do.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I should be able to start full work on this in a few days! :D

Submissions / Chrono Alter Final Mix: CT Gaiden - Screens Added!
« on: December 02, 2010, 02:40:44 pm »
Hola! Lance here with some actual news on the Chrono Alter Final Mix Front!

Progress... has actually been made. Everything up through the first boss battle has been coded, and it looks much, much better than Chrono Alter's original form. This has actually turned into a bit of a Remake using the same base coding. >_>

The cutscenes look wayyyyy better. The writing, I feel, is leagues above the original. The scene in which Glenn joins your party is a prime example of this.

The story has been mixed around a bit. However, don't expect anything too different. I just rearranged things to make more sense.

The graphics are soooooo much better. Trust me. Once the player reaches the first dungeon, there will be an epic wave of nostalgia.

Anywho, I will be adding screens in a bit, so stay tuned!

What do you guys want?

A very high quality soundtrack that'll sound better than the SNES version of CT? This leads to the possibility of Orchestrated music for some sections.

Or do you guys want a Midi soundtrack to lower the download size?

Or perhaps a mixture?

Chrono Trigger: Prelude to a Dream RPGMaker Project / Upcoming Changes
« on: November 04, 2010, 01:56:55 pm »
Hey guys! Just a quick update on the status of CT2. I've been rehauling the game lately, and I've made several changes to the game. I feel that this is a better direction for the project, and it may actually help it get done faster!

The first and biggest change is the story. I sat down and looked at the Chrono mythos and wrote a brand new script for the game. There are still some CE elements, however, they are much more subtle. The new story is looking to be roughly 17 chapters long, and will involve a host of new villains. The story still picks up four years after Chrono Alter, and five years after Trigger. It opens with Crono being accused of assaulting the Mayor of Porre and trying to steal an artifact. In addition to this, the team will have to deal with Dalton throughout all of time.

I can't tell you how excited I am about the story. It's very deep, and will hopefully explain some things about the Chrono-verse that are still shrouded in mystery. I am especially excited about the ending. I honestly don't think anyone will see it coming.

I think I'm going to have Crono be a silent protagonist once more. This new story calls for it, I think.

The music has been heavily edited. I removed around 75%-80% of the MP3's in the soundtrack and replaced them with Midis. The file size went from over 200MB to around 40MB.

The caterpillar system was removed. This will make the game MUCH more manageable. Time travel will also go smoother.

Now, about the trailer, everything from the trailer will remain EXCEPT... the confrontation with King Zeal. He may be in the game... he may not. I'm not going to confirm or deny anything. Everything else(The Epoch Battle, Asteria, Etc) is still in the game.

And that's about it. I'm redoing some of the maps, but nearly all the maps that were in the game before will remain.

I hope to have the game finished in one year. I hope.

Again, thank you so much for the support!

Alright, I'm gonna come completely clean. The main reason that Chrono Trigger 2 has been put on Hiatus is because of some criticism I received from the demo. A few people disliked that the game was too much like Crimson Echoes. They wanted it to be more original. I really took this stuff to heart.

Shortly after I got those messages, I sat down and drafted up a new plot. I feel as if this plot would be better received as an independent story from Crimson Echoes. While this draft is still in the editing stages, I can clarify what this would mean if I took this direction for the game.

I would start over using the same engine already built for CT2:TE. There would be no title or stat changes made to the game, and a few features may be removed or changed. The music may be switched from MP3 to Midi in some cases. There would be an entirely new plot connecting Trigger and Cross, while providing some elements from Chrono Trigger DS. There would certainly be a new cast of villains. Influences from CE would remain, however, they would be more subtle, such as a music track or a line of dialogue. The game would possibly be short, but would be much easier to complete and ensure that the game may actually be out by the end of 2011.

Elements of the original script, such as Asteria and the Epoch Battle, will remain.

As all of this have been said, I want YOUR opinion. I want to know if you want the game to remain on the CT:CE path, or become it's own game. The choice is yours.

Let me know if you have anything you want to see added or taken away. I will listen and consider ALL suggestions. Thanks again for all the support.

Chrono Trigger: Prelude to a Dream RPGMaker Project / I need a break!
« on: October 04, 2010, 08:19:45 pm »
Hey guys! Just letting you know, I'm going to take a break from CT2 for a while. I just need to do something else. Lol.

So, I've begun work on a new game. It's much more lighthearted and funny. Expect an announcement sometime soon. Oh, and it's not a Chrono title. It's something I've wanted to do for a long, long time.

1. There are a few known bugs in the demo, such a couple of passability issues, and some issues with the caterpillar system.

2. I mistakenly included some unfinished boss coding. During the battle, attack Kain, the smaller one, until he is defeated. Then attack Ingo and you will win.

3. Techs were not included until level 5. Most people will finish at level 3.

4. I appreciate feedback, but please do not review this game due to the fact it is a flawed demo. I don't want a score of the demo to reflect the full game upon release. Please post a comment or send me a message. I will promptly reply.

5. Any suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Thanks for the support as always.

Hey guys! I was just going to let you know a new demo will be released on Saturday, September 25th. This demo will include the first chapter, nothing more. It'll have a few more areas, so it'll be more substantial.

Anywho, hope you guys are looking forward to it.

Submissions / The Future of the Overture Series
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:24:59 am »
Overture Studios is the studio in which I make these fine Chrono games. It's kinda become a series the entire team has come to enjoy making.

Now, in the trailer for Chrono Trigger 2, we said that would be the end of our Chrono Trigger saga. That doesn't mean we can't work beyond Chrono Trigger.

We have a nice little lineup of Chrono games scheduled for development. :p
Untitled Chrono Trigger Prequel
Chrono Break: Act I/Act II
Untitled Chrono Cross Sequel

Needless to say, you've got a lot more coming after CT2's release. :P
