Has the Material Requiring Translation page been updated in a while?

Chrono Cross HD Edition / Re: RetroArch Setup

my Mac Mini 2012 Server and Thinkpad W500 both cannot run The HW ver. of the core... am i right?

I honestly do not know the answer to that, having only tried this on Windows 10. Testing RetroArch on those devices without the texture pack would be simple enough, I think.

I'll mock up those subtitles if someone else can handle the transparency settings and the logo insertion stuff.

Seeing them might help folks decide which they like best.
That would be awesome, Bekkler! If it's as simple as replacing the right texture, I'll try to find it within the files so we can test out the mock-ups.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Is Leena Adopted?
« on: October 01, 2020, 07:12:41 pm »
Una is her "brother" but this can't be true—Miguel left for the Sea of Eden in 1006, when Leena was only 2 years old. Una, by appearance, is much younger than her, meaning that Miguel is not Una's father; Miguel also doesn't mention Una's name when he dies, only Leena's. So either their mother remarried years later, or Leena was adopted by a family in the village.

I'm leaning on the latter if only because another father is never mentioned. For that matter, their mother is only mentioned, never shown. Which is odd. We see their grandmother but not their mother?

Hm. I suppose it could be Una who is adopted instead.

The "all-in-one" package now linked to in the master post includes a Read Me for setting up RetroArch settings, but I will include it here as well.

Updated the master post. Links now including for everything needed.

It's as simple as that. Just tell me which one do you want, do you want a HD instead the japanase text for example?

I'm currently naming all the files as PROJECT KID. Could we replace the Japanese text with that?

Or maybe a vote: What should the name of the project be?

General Discussion / Re: Deleting Spam Like...

New spam deletion style:

Sometimes, I'll catch spam before anyone else and hesitate deleting it right away, because Mauron's comments in the reports are so amusing.

But yeah, the spam sucks. Not even sure how they keep getting in. The worst (which we thankfully haven't had in a while), are the ones that create enough spam to fill several pages worth.

I didn't know the subreddit had so much spam, so I guess that shows you're doing a great job, Boo!

I was actually planning on putting together a "walk-through" of sorts on getting it all together and working. Just haven't had the time, and wasn't sure if we could actually host it here. But if it's cool with you, I'll get to work on it again.

Add a wraith with the ghetz shirt (prizvel did a patch for that : https://www.chronocompendium.com/Forums/index.php?topic=10846.msg221160#msg221160 )

That would definitely be a good thing to add. In fact, it may already be included in the single-disc edit? I'm not sure, I'd need to due more play tests to see. As for the others, I would need to learn how to modify more myself!

I've figured out how to do it but not how it works XD

That's awesome! Looks great. I wonder if it's as simple as replacing the right textures from the texture pack.

Ayla is best. I'm not sure it's quantifiable, just a fact of life. :)

Huh. Yeah, that really is interesting that the origins of Dragonians isn't definitive. But I think you're also right, Razig, that Dragonians = Reptites is an easy assumption to make. Dinopolis is stated at least twice to be of Reptite origin (or at least of Azala's descendants), yet despite being extremely important to their culture, not a single Reptite was transported along with it. However, we do suddenly have Dragonians show up in El Nido who, based on all lore, fit the bill perfectly for being "descendants".

Although if they had their memories erased, how did they retain the knowledge of Lavos that they recorded in Fort Dragonia?

I'm guessing it had something to do with the Dragon Tear. It was extremely important to them, used for various "mystic rituals"; the fact that it can physically change people suggests to me that restoring the mind would also be within its realm of power.

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Re: Another Look at CC's 2nd Moon
« on: September 02, 2020, 11:47:32 pm »
Man, this was the first post I made... Anyway, I think I've come full circle and back to the same conclusion.

The second moon is Dreamstone. A massive quantity of Dreamstone. I'll lay out the evidence why.

In the Keystone timelines (i.e. before the Time Crash), we see Dreamstone in two eras. First in Prehistory, where it is "rare" but still plentiful enough to be revered by the natives and used in weaponry. Secondly in Zeal, where it is used to craft various magical artifacts, each with corresponding Spirits; the Masamune with Masa and Mune, Schala's pendant with Doreen, and the Mammon Machine (with possibly itself as its own Spirit). There's also the Frozen Flame, which has decidedly Dreamstone-like qualities; it is most likely contained within the Mammon Machine as well since, in Radical Dreamers, " the precious stone was in [Schala's] possession" at the time of the Ocean Palace Incident, and her pendant is clearly not the Frozen Flame. Beyond that, Dreamstone is not spoken of, and Robo states he has no records of it at all from 2400 AG.

So with this, we can tentatively conclude that Dreamstone is disappearing as time goes on. Why? I suspect Lavos is the culprit since she enters the scene in Prehistory, where Dreamstone is most plentiful. And, I suspect, the name given to Lavos in the secret ending is more accurate to what Lavos as a species actually is: A Dream Devourer.

Now combining this with the original idea I shared 11 years ago--that the Dragonians created the moon. With no Lavos (i.e. Dream Devourer) existing in the Lost Sanctum timeline, it follows that Dreamstone doesn't disappear. And given what we know of the Dragonians having lived more in harmony with nature, I argue (though it is far-fetched and simply theory at this point on) that the Dragonians were able to cultivate and harvest Dreamstone throughout the eras with "a biological machine used to control the powers of nature". Eventually, this machine would, with such vast quantities of Dreamstone, become a "plasma life-form" and "a living accumulation of the planet's energy"; in other words, the Dragon God is also a Dreamstone Spirit just like Masa, Mune, and Doreen, with the second moon being its vessel.

It might also explain the vague description from Belthasar that the Dragon God "was consumed long ago, in the distant past... Integrated by the entity known as Lavos in a time on the other side of the dimensional darkness". Note he says Lavos and not Time Devourer (the latter part, "in a time on the other side of dimensional darkness", I think could just as easily be interpreted as Lavos' pocket dimension instead of the Darkness Beyond Time). So Lavos could be "consuming" the Dragon God by way of absorbing the second moon's Dreamstone (the "actual" form) while we still face off against the Dragon God's Spirit form in Chrono Cross.

And all of this neatly ties into an overarching theme of the Chrono series... Dreams.

Also the moon is fricking blood red like all Dreamstone.

EDIT: Also, if Dreamstone is the source of Spirits like Masa, Mune, Doreen, and possibly even the Dragon God, it conveniently explains the Entity's existence too: That is, the Spirit of the planet. Lavos feasting on the planet's Dreamstone is actively killing the Entity, hence the reason for the Gates so that we can experience the Entity's life.

I am currently playing Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as that seems to be a go-to when I want to stop and go play. Save anywhere, lots of quests, open world... there's a lot to love with this game, even after nearly a decade. Plus I have it modded to the max (like 800 mods total) and it looks fabulous. Only took 100s of hours to set up over the course of like six months, haha...

What mods are your favorite, Boo? Once I get around to actually upgrading my computer, I plan on doing this too (though maybe not 800 mods, wow, that's a lot!). I remember my favorites were those that added to the story and places I could explore: Beyond Bruma, The Forgotten City, and Inigo.

With the new patch that dropped yesterday, FFXIV. Also some Animal Crossing New Horizons with my mom and Minecraft with my brothers on occasion, but those are more of relaxing "time wasters" more than anything.

I actually find it really difficult to finish games anymore. :?

I haven't yet fully read all of this (there's a lot of great stuff here I need to digest!), so forgive me if it's been mentioned already, but...

Isn't the theory here at the Compendium for why Home World's future is destroyed, is because HW is a split off of Another World instead of a true new timeline? What I mean is, whenever an event would cause a change to a timeline's past, it creates a new timeline from that point with an identical but mirrored past (two lines); whereas HW is a unique case for some reason, because instead of being a new timeline, it's a splintered path on one line (like a fork with only two prongs).

So everything up until the 1010 split is identical because it's literally the same timeline (the fork's handle). If someone were to time travel to the future from the handle, they only end up on one path (one prong), in this case, always Another World. Which means that when Crono & Co. time travel from the past to defeat Lavos in 1999, they only appear and succeed in AW's future. Meanwhile, because Home World is a separate path, they don't appear in 1999 despite being it the same "timeline", so Lavos destroys the world, which is reflected in the Dead Sea.
