Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Radical Dreamers' Lucca & Gil
« on: June 13, 2012, 02:06:23 am »
Quote
"Oh, it's already been four or five years, I would gather. Master Lynx had
sent for a certain young lady... a very special young lady, you might say."
"This woman, owner of powerful mental and magical abilities, was the object
of Master Lynx's attention for quite some time..."
Magil turns his head away, hastily interrupting the old lady's speech.
"Quiet!" he barks.
"Ah, I apologize. How easily I forget the situation between you two..."
"Which two? Who are you talking about?"
"Oh, I won't bore you with details, young man..."
"But..."
What was the "situation" between Lucca and Gil that Vera is hinting at here? It's unlikely that she would know of their previous time traveling... Or am I overlooking this, and whom Vera is actually referring to in this sentence is Kid instead?

I'm not sure when in Radical Dreamers this dialogue occurs. I found it at the bottom of the script.

I know it's not Chrono, but here's another painting I am working on for class. Been following a theme of video games, apparently.

The windmill looks terrible, and I need to fix that bottom shadow (it won't disappear!). :o

(omg, this looks so much better at a distance... TEEEEE)

I have a request for everyone. Today, on this day of too-early-in-the-morning-yet-why-am-I-still-awake, play with Legos. Or do the Hokey Pokey. One or the other, or both! Just enjoy the moment.

"Enjoy the moment with all your might...whether itís gloomy, whether itís bright!"

General Discussion / Musica Ludi Report on Mitsuda Interview
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:50:38 pm »
From Yasunori Mitsuda's Facebook page: The French site Musica Ludi published a report of the interview Yasunori Mitsuda had with the magazine Famitsu.

Turns out Mitsuda is working on three projects: one which has been announced, a second with a "great creator," and a third which is still a secret. Any guesses? I can't find the original interview, but here is the report by Musica Ludi: http://musicaludi.fr/6934

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Why didn't Belthasar save the world?
« on: September 06, 2011, 03:24:20 pm »
How It Should Have Ended: Chrono Cross

Belthasar: "With my largely unexplained clairvoyant powers I have determine that some essence of the dying Lavos manifested itself in the darkness beyond time, where it has merged with the unfortunate princess of Zeal to form a creature of unfathomable destructive power! What should I do...? I know! I'll use my convenient time machine to travel over 12000 years into the past, save Schala from falling into the vortex, and prevent the Time Devourer from ever maturing in the first place! Ho ho ho, I am a genius!"

Seriously, why could he not have done this? Is there some aspect of Time Error associated with the DBT that prevents changes to it once they've been made? Or is traveling to the DBT an act of time travel and thus protected by TTI (meaning Schala will be TB'ed regardless of if the above happens)?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / CC Favorite Phrases
« on: August 30, 2011, 12:52:44 am »
I noticed today that in the Chrono Cross Missing Piece, under each character profile is "口癖・名言" followed by quotations. Using my handy dandy Internet, it seems to mean "favorite phrase/quote." If so, I think these would be neat to add to the Compendium should they ever be translated.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Chrono Cross Temporal Loop?
« on: August 25, 2011, 01:54:20 am »
http://chronofan.com/Black/Publications/ccplotanalysis.txt#Is_there_a_timeloop

Point #43: Has this theory been definitively disproven? The author's analysis in a post-CC Belthasar re-orchestrating the entire plot seems ... wrong, as there should be no need to in an "ideal" future. If so, the "Kid saving Serge" event still eludes me (Kid saves Serge because Serge saves Kid... etc.).

I couldn't think of a better title that got straight to the point...

Anyway, this is a chart I made to have easy access to which characters are existent in each world. I included along with the playable characters a handful of important characters who exist in only one world. Feel free to add to the list or fix anything that needs changing or additional detail. Use the link to view and/or download the file.

General Discussion / Social Trends and Stereotypes?
« on: June 08, 2011, 06:30:04 pm »
I'm making this thread in response to a video I saw (and an argument over said video), but feel free to contribute your own observations on social trends, good or bad.

This is the video:

Ignoring the conclusion of the video, do you believe in the artists' statement that "nice guys finish last?" A female friend (and the one I had an argument with) gave the response that "most guys aren't dicks to compensate for their secret niceness. They're just dicks for fun." I, however, have been in position of those two guys in the video, and I empathize with their statement. So, has this become a stereotype in both males and females?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Moar Analysis
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:33:12 am »
First of all, feel free to move this/change the title/whatever as necessary, as I am covering a handful of topics.

OK. After spending hours reading the Principles of Time and Dimensional Travel page and days contemplating, I have a few questions. Let's get right to it.

---

Kid

1) For clarification, how many versions of Kid exist in Chrono Cross? From her birth in 1004 AD (KT-2) to 1020, that's 1. She then travels back in time to 1010 to save Serge and ... I'm lost. I presume she returns to 1020* of the new timeline in Another World, while a new Kid continues to live in Home World. We're now in Mid Dimension Timelines (I'll refer to this one as KT-3). The Kid of HW, according to Kato, is up on Zenan doing who knows what; probably being a pirate. Meanwhile, the Kid of AW is the same who saved Serge in 1010 and calls upon him in 1020 ... right? The story progresses until Masa and Mune send Serge to 1015 to save Kid (of AW only). When he returns, Serge is in KT-4 and a new Kid (the one he saved) now lives. That's 2 in AW and 1 in HW (in total, among KT-2 to KT-4). Activate Chrono Cross, shit happens. Am I getting this right?
*The Compendium states she traveled back in time sometime after 1015. I'm saying 1020 for ease of reference.

2) How did Kid travel to 1010 to save Serge? I do not believe Belthasar ever contacted her, because she does not recognize him at Viper Manor. So my only conclusion is that she used a Time Egg, the same in her possession when Masa and Mune saw her in 1020.

Dimensional Split

1) Is the split between Another World and Home World a branching of the dimensions, starting at 1010; or is it a division of the dimensions throughout all time, with pre-1010 identical in both? I've found two Compendium theories that work on both.

Quote from: Time Travel and the Split
The dimensions split at 1010 A.D. Does this mean that if two people travelled back in time from either dimensions after 1010 A.D., there'd be two of them in a single dimension?

Probably not. It is suggested that the dimensions are now complete, separate entities. Since dimensions are self-contained universes, Home World simply has the same history as Another up to 1010 A.D., after which it diverges. The Chrono series avoids paradoxes and probably would not create a case where the dimensional split literally happens at a branch on one worldline.
Quote from: Armageddon-Branch Theory
Another World always existed; it is the original dimension, but Home World only extends from 1010 AD onwards. In 1000 AD, Crono exists in Another World. If he travels through time, he can only reach a destination within his own dimension. When Crono defeats Lavos in 1999 AD, or any other time, the battle takes place in Another World.

Sky Dragon Isle Error

1) Under the Time Crash Shift theory, both Chronopolis and Dinopolis work under the same proposed method of time travel (consult the link, I'm not going to explain it). If such were the case, then not only those who enter/leave Chronopolis would experience TTI and TB, but so will everyone who enters/leaves Sky Dragon Isle, as it is the same as Dinopolis. I haven't fully thought about it, but this could have serious repercussions to the timeline, right? I argue that the "time travel" used by Dinopolis (er, the Entity) is different than that of the Time Crash used by Chronopolis.

(This is following the theory that the FF was born in 1999 AD and came through time with Chronopolis.)

The obvious answer would be Lynx, as he is directly manipulating Porre and the Acacia Dragoons with stories of the Frozen Flame. However, this only accounts for the latest 10 years of Chrono Cross; Wazuki didn't become Lynx until 1010 AD, so rumors of the Frozen Flame could not have surfaced beforehand. I'm under the assumption, though, that stories of the Frozen Flame already existed, as suggested by Steena.

Quote
Steena:
In an old poem of El Nido there is
a phrase that refers to the evil
sealed away by the 6 Dragons.
   This phrase follows after it:
'"...the evil flame that sought to
   engulf the world..."'

Of course, this could be reference to the actual Lavos, not the Frozen Flame (as suggested in Thought's previous thread).

Is there any evidence that anyone knew of the Frozen Flame's existence before 1010 AD? And if so, who spread the rumors? Belthasar?
