time travellers immunity/time bastard covers this, as others have said.

its important to note that magus (in the guise of the prophet) meets janus, his younger self.

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Lavos and Immortality

she never had true immortality, as she can be killed.

i agree that it was emanations/power of lavos that gave her agelessness. lavos power allowed her to keep living in youth and strength for thousands of years. its also the same reason why she presented a challenging battle for chrono & co.. she was a strong magic user before, but lavos power made her much stronger.

As far as malfunctions go, do we say that CT is a malfunctioning product because someone figured out you can fight the Black Omen in 1000 A.D....then 600 AD...then 12000 BC? No, it's an oversight on the part of the programmers.
You honestly think that's a mistake in programming?  The only question that brings up is not whether the Omen should be around still in prior times, but the paradox created by destroying something in an earlier time period that you fought in a later time period.  Hence another reason TTI was brought up in the first place.  Rather than approach through the problem on a logical time travelling sense, the programmers simply made it a dungeon you can explore multiple times, prompting us to come up with reasoning for it that is full of contradictions.

i just had to mention that being able to fight in the black omen 3 different times is no mistake, and no paradox. you can destroy it in 1000 ad, then battle it again in 600ad and then in 12000 bc.. because each time, it hadnt been destroyed yet. the fact that it was destroyed in the future doesnt stop it from existing in the past.
if you destroyed the black omen at 12000 bc, then it would disappear in later times.

anyway

the gate key situation is a complex situation. after all, chrono didnt drop the pendant like marle did, right?

we can assume that the dreamstone pendants special properties helped open the gate, along with electric/lightning power from the telepod. theres also the question of the telepod itself and how it worked.. if lucca could create a teleportation device, perhaps she was also smart enough to study the pendant/telepod reaction and craft a device with a similar amplifying effect.

then theres the question of why we couldnt see the gate before it opened, but we can see all other gates before we use them once. perhaps the initial gate opening triggered an entity-assisted chain reaction that made other gates available?

and what if the pendant still had a bit of charge from the mammon machine in 1000 ad, and thats what caused the initial reaction? what if the gate became a stable "closed" gate after chrono went through it, making luccas job easier?

many questions...

Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: The Nature of Lavos

interesting thread..

as a sidenote - on the day of lavos 1999 AD, when lavos shoots up spikes to destroy the planet, one of the spikes lands on himself!

about 26 seconds in...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFygZVtYGYM

youd think that a being powerful enough to destroy the planet would manage to not make a fool of itself.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Re: Lavos and Guardian (boss) paradox?
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:11:34 am »
by the way, this is sort of on a tangent, but i wanted to post this-

lavos uses time warps to different eras because each era corresponds to a certain powerful attack he can use.

ive figured them out-

65000000 BC - Grand Stone / Ultimate Physical Attack
12000 BC - Invading Light / Slow
600 AD - Evil Star / Reduces Party's HP By Half
1000 AD - Spell / Random Status
2300 AD - Dreamless / Ultimate Magic Attack

-   Also imitates the attacks and HP of the Dragon Tank, the Guardian, the Heckran, Zombor, Masa&Mune, Nizbel, Magus, Azala and the Black Tyrano, and Giga Gaia.

not sure if anyone else said this, but its possible that lavos somehow reads the minds and experiences of the party to some extent, and mimicks their previous big battles. that way, lavos could see the memory of the guardian battle even though it was in the ruined future.. and that would probably fit with the time theories.

that seems like the most straightforward answer to me.

indeed. also, i read somewhere on the compendium that magus & the mystics war against humans is comparable to muhammad and the jihad.

I want to be remembered for my research, my accomplishments in school and my job. This isn't my life and in the grand scheme of things this really is just a ROM hack nothing more.
no offense, but theres a good possibility that youll be remembered more for CE (if you release it) then your school or work.

personally, im looking forward to a leak.

being able to open zeals chests and doors depends entirely on charging the pendant in the mammon machine.

the swallow was probably named after the bird.. the bird is known for being fast, and the sword increases your speed.

my opinion is that mystics can shapeshift, but its takes magical power to do so.. the more powerful the mystic, the better they would be at shapeshifting. of course, not all choose to shapeshift and not all may use magic that lets them shapeshift, but thats the jist of it.

i see flea as a tranvestite or transexual. as to his/her true nature, who knows. id like to know more about the 3 mystic leaders, it seems that their history was left blank.

indeed...

The continued existence of Zeal would certainly form a very different timeline. not only would there not be a magus, but the world could be a very different place.. after all, zeal had an enormous influence on the history/timeline of the world.

an important consideration is that with the destruction of lavos, zeal could no longer use him/it as a power source. lavos wasnt their only source of magic, they used the sun stone before the mammon machine was built, as well as a few other sources i believe. without lavos, the queen might regain her senses, and life could get better in zeal.. although with less power to go around.

the islands would probably continue to float for at least a while.. after all, zeal was around for a decent length of time before the mammon machine, at least several generations. they did mention that the elemental power sources that they used previously were being slowly diminished, which presents the possibility that they may not be able to maintain their lifestyle above the clouds indefinitely. maybe zeal would end up going back to the surface to avoid expending too much magical power. that would create a somewhat less sharp divide between enlightened and earthbound, though they certainly wouldnt be brought together in a "last village". from there, who knows how history could develop? its an interesting thought anyway, and its possible material for a project/fanfic.

Hi, first thread on here...

First id like to say that the compendium & forum is great, and im happy to find such a wealth of information on my favorite RPG.. as well as many other people who are just as fascinated by the story.

anyway..

as we know, if your level is high enough its possible to defeat Lavos in the ocean palace incident - this gets you the programmers ending.

but tying this into the storyline, lets say Crono & Co really do this - that means that Lavos wouldnt get the chance to destroy Zeal, and Zeal would continue to exist!

i wonder what that timeline would be like...

389
as far as the marle paradox, it was likely an oversight by developers.

but to weave it into the story, id argue that the entity wanted to preserve the guardia line for whatever reason, and caused marle to disappear to lead chrono to save queen leene, who believed that it was a grandfather paradox.

to keep it consistent with the rest of CT, what i wouldve done is had the present greatly altered (perhaps guardia would be in ruins) if chrono tried to return without saving the queen.. and then theyd realize that they have to save the guardia line to get the present back to normal.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Zeal is based off of Austrailia?
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:22:38 pm »
i havent read through the entire thread, but id say that Zeal is based on Atlantis and ancient greece.

for a long time, westerners/europeans saw the ancient greeks as being a great civilization which originated thier way of life, as well as ideas/science/philosophy... and they were a superior culture that existed thousands of years ago. Zeal also existed thousands of years before the present, and they placed a strong emphasis on science and philosophy. not only that, but in ancient greek tragic plays, the main character would usually be destroyed by his hubris/ego - and the ocean palace and attempt to gain immortality from lavos through the mammon machine can be seen as the ultimate act of hubris which brought destruction on zeal.

theres also a big influence from the myth of Atlantis - an ancient civilization more advanced than the present day, which was on its own island seperate from the rest of the world, and was catastrophically destroyed.
