things have quieted down for the time being. it was really ridiculous in there for awhile. admittedly I got my hands dirty, mostly because certain individuals exhausted my patience. there may have been provocative posts in there, but the response to them was disproportionate. all in all, some things can't be ironed out without moderation. thanks for intervening.

good stuff! I approve of this genre, and it seems like your kind of style.

Spekkio said that after the Fall of Zeal, humans lost the ability to use magic, with only Mystics retaining it. those lines were mangled in our version.

perhaps they weren't familiar with Magus' powers, and didn't realize that he (and Ozzie) can cast Lightning.

I suppose if you were insulated well enough from the metal armor, it might work, but that would be tricky.

Chrono Series Tarot Card Project / Re: XIX. Sun - Lucca w/ Sun Stone
« on: September 21, 2020, 02:49:58 am »
reporting in. looks good so far.

what matters most is the thematic meaning and style, rather than following the illustration in a literal sense. if you can do both, that's great, but there are often trade-offs in work such as this.

my idea for the Sun is to depict Lucca charging up a ball of bright yellow energy with the Wondershot. this would capture the energy, dynamism, sun imagery, reason & science connection, character, etc. in a single unified concept. of course, it's ultimately up to you the illustrator, but that's my best suggestion.

update, I haven't forgotten about this. I'm doing more tarot doctor work, assigning suit cards. I now have about a third of them filled out in the official guide sticky, and I plan to add rationales once it's complete.

under music, it should be Secret of the Forest instead of Memories of Green.

yes, it's supposed to shift back-and-forth between your headphones. I always thought that was a cool effect.

I'm surprised you had that much trouble with the fight. maybe you were underleveled? your level should at least ~40 by endgame.

yes, Lavos shifts his essence to the right bit as a deceptive defense. it's tricky indeed, but it is the final battle of the game, so it's not supposed to pull any punches.

of course I've thoroughly played through CT.

grinding up to level ** is tedious, so I'd recommend using PAR codes (Pro Action Replay) if you want to fight Nu Spekkio. just be aware, if you get a massive amount of experience/level-ups through PAR, the game might lag for awhile, so you just have to wait it out.

this has to be some kind of beta test feature that was left in.

I think it's intentional, but lacks refinement. If you open the menu, enemies sneak up on you. Unfortunately the code doesn't allow for specific menu button checks, so it's always X.

sure enough, it's true. as you said, it's very unpolished. enemies sneaking up on you for menu'ing is a cool idea, but it seems like the implementation is half-finished. I would've liked to see them flesh it out more, and use it in more places. one of my many favorite things about the game is how it plays around with meta-references and 4th wall breaks, e.g. Dalton demanding a music change on the Blackbird, and the Johnny encounter. when you first get to Johnny, you're surrounded by robots and it plays battle music, only to switch over to Johnny's theme when he arrives. as the player, you react as if you're about to do battle, then it gets subverted; so you the player share your characters experience.

this is going off on a tangent, but I just wanted to state my thoughts.

I'm not sure if it's worth updating just to cover that. I'll wait for more info for the time being.

Also, until yesterday I had never noticed how counterattacks sometimes cause odd behavior when they kill an enemy, despite the fact that I almost always have Ayla in my team and equipped with the Rage Band or FrenzyBand. Details in this thread.
the Bantam Imp thread inspired this one. I thought about piggybacking off that thread, but decided to post a new one.

In the room with the Guardian boss fight, if you press X, some enemies will appear to fight you. If your timing is good, this can be done in the intro sequence too.
this has to be some kind of beta test feature that was left in.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Easter eggs/cool stuff

Working on battle sound fx led to me mucking around in the game, and even after many years and playthroughs, I still made a few discoveries.

If you return to the Middle Ages after defeating Magus:
the people of Guardia Castle express their gratitude for helping them win the human-mystic war, and if you bring Frog, you get special dialogue.
over in Manoria Cathedral, there's a nun (real, not fake) who gives you encouraging words.

Pardon me if this was posted before, I just wanted to share with all. I thought I had known all the details of the game, so it was really cool to find something new.

Other points of interest which are probably known:
Singing Mountain (it's unfortunate this wasn't included, it always bothered me that the east side of the continent in prehistory was empty)
the unused dungeon under the Blue Pyramid
the unused cutscene accessed via Schala's room
You can introduce your party members to Chrono's Mom. If you visit her while Chrono is gone, your characters lie about the situation, and Bottom of the Night plays.

If you've got more easter eggs or details to discuss, feel free to post em. This thread can be a repository for any and all obscure content.
