Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Cross DS: Is it Possible?
« on: May 14, 2009, 06:28:24 am »
Well I kinda skimmed over the topic. I say if it can be done that it would sell well but somehow like a few other people this strikes me as being more likely on the PSP. In any case I wouldn't be surprised if a CCDS/PSP does come out. However as opposed to such a huge cast of useless characters I think they need to maybe drop at least 20 of them and focus more on the characters that actually matter to the story. Finally they need to retcon Guile=Magus because let's face it: CTDS added big hints to it and along with some of Gulie's personal info and stats matching Magus it's too obvious in my opinion.....

General Discussion / Re: Anime suggestions?
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:38:38 am »I'm not a mecha person...I used to watch DBZ, but it got boring...I feel bad for the guy who made the Manga he was forced to keep continueing it (I'm not sure if everyone noticed the show got more and more inane as it went on. Adding characters, time travel, less focus on comedy, ext. he was obviosuly trying to get people to hate it....however everyone loved it. He originally wanted it to end with Freeza)
I highly doubt AT was trying to get people to hate it but you are right. AT wanted to end it both at Frieza and at the end of Cell and in both cases he wanted Goku to be killed with Gohan taking on the role of Earth's protector. Hell when he continued into Buu it was suppose to be Gohan finishing the battle but people kept screaming for Goku. Hence the Earth blowing up and the giant Spirit Bomb at the end. At that point I feel he finally got too disgusted with letting the fans dictate what direction it went in which is why GT was done without any input from him.
In any case I haven't seen too much anime as of late. Seen the first disc of Bleach and liked that. A good but very short series is Black Blood Brothers. Had a pretty good mix of action and comedy in my mind but it was way too short (it had only 12 episodes).
As for mecha related anime I've seen some of Rahxephon. My friends loved it but I found it hard to follow. And while I know I'm most likely going to get flamed it needs to be said......
Eva is crap and overrated

Heh....most like one person picks up the live grenade, calmly walks over to his buddies and says "Hey guys....where's the pin?"
In any case it's currently May 14th where I live. Seeing that Square's deadline was suppose to be yesterday I'd imagine we're going to be hearing more about the situation sometime this afternoon. Right now the only thing that those who didn't work on this can do is sit back and wait. It'll blow but hopefully we'll have a better idea where everything stands by the end of tonight.

Once again......it's very easy to say defy them when it isn't your ass on the chopping block. Forget for a moment that there's user content and custom stuff for other games that gets untouched. Forget all the talk about grey areas and the very slim possibility of fighting and winning. This C&F is a fact. It's confirmed to not be a hoax. With all that in mind answer me honestly Spekkio......would you seriously defy the C&D if this was your game full well knowing the odds are greatly stacked against you and what you stand to lose should a judge rule in favor of Square Enix?

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Dream Devourer ending links Magus to Guile?
« on: May 13, 2009, 06:44:58 am »What do we know about Guile so far? He's in the Magician's Guild, he wears a mask, has green eyes, blue hair, kinda tan, shadow/black affinity, very skilled in magic, can float.. Anything about his past life or backstory?
Funny you should mention the green eyes bit.......

Janus' natural eye color was green after all. Not to mention the little bit Mav mentioned in his post:
"He's a 26 year-old adventure-seeker from the Zenan Mainland, whose Home World counterpart isn't mentioned in the slightest. What else...he's the rising star of that Guild...other than that, we don't know too much."
Let's break it down. We assume Magus/Janus ends up in what appears to be Guardia Forest in the new ending so that links up with Guile calling the Zenan Mainland home. Janus during the Ocean Palace incident appears to be about six years old. Assuming the gate drops him in Truce Canyon 20 years prior to Trigger this makes the year 580 AD. That in turn would put him at the right age in Trigger. Of course one would be quick to point out the 20 year difference between CT and CC would put him at 46. However this is Magus we are talking about. His appearence as the Fiendlord is greatly altered as his appearence as a boy. What's to say that he couldn't eventually change his features back to what they should have been? Plus if Magus/Janus could alter his looks to appear more demonic then why not to appear younger? Shadow/Black is a no brainer as is blue hair. The kicker for me is the Home World part. It's been a good 7 or 8 years since I last played Cross so I could be wrong but if my memory serves me correctly isn't Another World the "true" world where Crono and company fight Lavos? And as Mav said in another post when you take away all of the horrible memories that would have made Janus into Magus what would you get? Being of royal blood I would see an older Janus as being quite refined which is something that Guile appears to be. Plus he sure as hell wouldn't be dressed like a moody vampire/warlock. Perhaps a nice suit which come to think of it is something that you always see Guile in.
Sorry guys but I'm convinced......age aside (but easily explained)I'm about 99% sure Guile=Magus/Janus ^_~

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: anyone else here hate the new dialogue font?
« on: May 13, 2009, 06:00:23 am »
The fonts seem to be one of those matter of opinion things. I personally didn't mind the font in both this and FF6A. Looked a bit better in my mind. Granted in both the new translation did leave out some of the more classic lines but in both cases they were more true to the original so it worked. Personally as far as CT went however I thought it would have been a nice touch if for the player characters and major villians they did like they did with the GBA FF6 and had character pics when they spoke. It was a nice touch that I kinda liked but obviously it's not a game breaker. Either way the DS version is the best version of CT that Square has ever made.
Now if only they'd make a new Chrono game or come to a deal on CE :-/

It saddens me to see how many people in various places are still saying "Fuck Square! Release it anyway!" Sure that can be easy to say.....when your not the one with the proverbial gun to your head. The law team at SE have Z and companies names, addresses, ect. If they go ahead and release it anyway or if it gets leaked somehow then things are going to get much worse. The worst part is some people are getting pissed that they won't do it anyway. No offense guys but if this was my game there's no way in hell I'd be willing to burn for CE. Not at the risk of a possible $150K fine and even possible jail time if the situation warrents it.
After a few days to think about it this is the bottom line. For those of you mad at the CE team for not putting it out don't get pissed at them. Yes they spent five years working on it. Yes it was 98% done and about three weeks away from release. However in the grand scheme of things the cons far exceed the pros. At the same time don't fly off the handle at SE. Yes it sucks balls and yes it was a dick move to do it this close (I'm still finding it hard to believe hey only found out about this in the past month or so). However the Chrono Series does happen to be their IP and with that comes the right to defend themself if they feel that there is a misuse/infringement. While I myself feel there is a slim chance a case could be made once again the risk outweighs the gain. At this point the best thing we can do is support the CE team and hope a compromise can be made somehow. Short of that there are different things that can be done without flying off the handle because in the eyes of SE if they see a bunch of idiot kids screaming profanity and cursing them then they have already won. Getting the word spread is a good start. It'll put a little pressure on SE. While it may not change things in the end it will make our voices be heard and hopefully they may get SE to somehow want to come to some sort of deal.
Heh.....on a somewhat related note this sort of reminds me of the Jericho fan campaign about two years ago in an attempt to get CBS to reverse their original choice to cancel the show after the first year. Real shame that despite the efforts succeeding that they set that show up to fail anyway. In any case read up on that fan campaign.....might help get some possible ideas floating about ^_~

Yeah now that I'm not playing the game at 1 AM I'm thinking more along the lines of it was lazyness as opposed to "OMG!!! S0me+h!ng newz!!!11one" For some strange reason I've always had a weird ability to pick out boopers and goofs that may go unnoticed prior to a final release of something

Great minds must think alike because I was actually thinking about AOTS last night at about 4 AM. Of course at that time of day I was pretty much out of steam and not ready to type up something that may have been long winded. IF someone goes that route please keep us updated. I used to get G4 on Comcast Cable in VA but I recently moved back to KY to help my parents who are getting older and needless to say everything my old man owns is about 15-25 years out of date

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Something I noticed in regards to the Black Omen that needs an answer
« on: May 12, 2009, 05:50:21 am »
Ok I've been playing CT at least once a year since the original release in 1995 so I always figured I had a pretty decent handle on the game. As far as the Black Omen is concerned I thought I understood how it worked pretty well. For example if you enter it in 600 AD upon beating Zeal you wind up in 1999 AD and fight Lavos at that point. The easy explaination? Zeal herself says the Omen itself is a gateway to Lavos that transends time. Hence while you were running around inside the Omen at what felt like normal time outside it was moving through time at an accelrated rate.
Now try to follow me on this because here's where I feel things get a bit tricky and needs explanation.
Let's say you destroy the Omen in 1000 AD. Prior to the Lavos battle you see it crash back into the ocean. Upon beating the outer shell you have the option of returning to the End of Time. At this point if you leave via the Epoch and return to 1000 AD you'll see the Black Omen is gone. Go to either 600 AD or 12000 BC however and it's still floating about. That's because you destroyed it in 1000 AD. However by either an oversight or something more that the producers and writers may be trying to tell us an intresting thing occurs in the DS version. Today I beat the Omen in 1000 AD and during the destruction scene the 12000 BC map is shown on the bottom screen. However just like the Super NES version the Omen still exists in both 600 AD and 12000 BC. Also the place it goes down in does not correspond with where it hovers in 12000 BC. In years past I always felt it was simply just to show that it dropped in height and fell very close to the ocean and away from any land mass. Now however I am not so sure. The fact that it displays the 12000 BC map seems to be trying to tell us something.....or on the other hand I'm reading a bit too deep and it was just an oversight on the part of the team for the DS version.
In any case it's something to talk about. Any thoughts?

« on: May 12, 2009, 03:56:19 am »It would be fantastic if SE did that, man. Unfortunately, I just don't see that happening. There is almost no precedent for this kind of thing happening. I think Valve did it once, but to actually release a physical game of this is way beyond wishful thinking. Don't get me wrong, it is not outside the realm of possibility, but if SE didn't make it themselves, I don't see it happening. I hope I'm incorrect though.
I agree with you 100% Raven. It's wishful thinking more than anything. Hell if appeling to Square Enix's fans isn't going to work then perhaps appeling to their wallet may have a chance. Granted it's a slim chance but I always feel slim is better than nothing. Personally if it was me my counter offer to SE would be $100,000 for the rights to do as they wish with the game that would be split among however many people worked on CE. Between that and the distrubition and material costs for putting it on the DS the overall cost would be a drop in the bucket for SE and as I said before SE would have far more to gain than lose if this were the case. Here's hoping someone at Square sees the potential in this project and allowing it to go on somehow as opposed to acting like a 5 year old child that doesn't want to share.
If you use more than one tag, you have to make sure that they mirror each other on the closing tags. Like you used a font, color and then bold tags. That means on the closing they have to be bold, color and then font. If you don't, you'll still get the effects, but you'll have your closing fonts dangling on the ends of your posts. Actually, I guess this will just be for anyone who sees it, I should probably PM this to you...>_>

Hey guys been lurking about for years on here from time to time. Real shame about the C&D. Was really looking forward to playing this. CC was ok in it's own right but never felt like a true Chrono game to me. The original CT always held a special place for me since it was the first real RPG I enjoyed. Granted I had played others before then but it was really the first one I actually took the time to finish. I just got a DS and the new CT a few weeks ago since my SNES has bit the dust and the PS1 version is damn near unplayable. I too was hoping that it was a fake but on the flip side this may be for the best. If it was a fake then trying to confirm it with Square could have started a whole new shit storm in the event they had no idea. At least in this case if SE has half an ounce of brain power left then perhaps a deal can be reached to allow the release of CE in some form or another. Perhaps if the right parties can agree to it then maybe you could even sell SE the rights to the game. This would perhaps allow them the chance to clean it up and then make any additions or mods that may be needed for a DS release. It's obvious that a ton of hard work was put into this and I think if SE could get the ok from most of the original CT team then they would stand to make a ton of money for paying you guys for the hard work. What they would offer you would possibly pale compared to the amount of money they could possibly make. I'd easily pay $40 for a DS version of this game. Seriously guys look up what may need to be done and get talking with SE to see if some agreement can be reached that allows the release. It would be a shame to see this much work be wasted.
