General Discussion / Re: The $%*! frustration thread
« on: January 25, 2009, 02:56:04 am »Current gripe: Sintu
Reason: Won't drop a pointless subject. Namely, my use of the facepalm smilie in response to Idiom's bald pic.
Huh?
I didn't know I was being offensive. I just found that particular post of yours to be amusing.

« on: January 25, 2009, 02:33:37 am »That is also irrelevant. I was posting someone doing a FacePalm. Who it is, and whether or not they're bald, is irrelevant.
It's irrelevant but ironic.

« on: January 25, 2009, 02:03:28 am »But still, your point it moot. It's a facepalm, nothing more. The fact that it's Pat Stewart is irrelevant.
It's the fact that he's bald. It doesn't matter who it is.

I know that, but still.

Chrono Trigger had time traveling
Chrono Cross had alternate dimensions
Chrono _____ has ???

Bald is NOT the way to go.
Gonna be honest here, the top pic is better.
Am I the only one that finds it ironic that he used a Picard /facepalm when saying this?

I like his designs but I dunno about preferring them over the ones we have now.

« on: January 24, 2009, 11:27:00 pm »What did you like about it? The main complaint I hear from people is that it lacks the character development that FF X had - and that's a legitimate complaint. But I felt like XII revitalized the series and the world was much more massive than X's (which I felt was way too tiny and constrained). Also the storyline and the cities in XII really drew me into the world of Ivalice, unlike X's storyline which I was mostly uninterested in, and the locales which I thought were hugely lacking.
I don't really care about FFX's character development considering I hated almost the entire cast anyway. I actually liked most of FFXII's main characters.
I liked FFXII's battle system. Some people criticize it because the game plays itself apparently, although I've never been able to that on anything but normal monsters. Maybe I just suck at gambits or something. Either way, you're pretty much just spamming the confirm button through the majority of any Final Fantasy game anyway, so I don't see the big deal if the game does it for you. FFX's battle system was probably more polished, but it had to take a step backwards (ATB --> Turn based). FFXII took a step forward, and that was refreshing.
I also liked the fact that they decided to introduce new summons. Even though the summons weren't all that useful, I liked their designs. Ifrit, Shiva, and Bahamut are getting really old to me.
Another minor thing that I really liked about FFXII is the voice acting. FFXII probably has the best voice acting in any game I've played. The only problem I have with it, is the way they recorded it. It kinda sounds like some of the characters have stuffy noses or something.

General Discussion / Re: What Are You Currently Playing? (Do NOT Just Make a List)
« on: January 24, 2009, 01:33:04 am »Why is it that every time I try to play Vagrant Story with the intentions of playing it all the way through once and for all I give up at some point out of frustration/confusion/lack of interest? All I hear from people is "Vagrant Story is such a good game" and "Vagrant Story this and that" and "You aren't a gamer unless you love Vagrant Story".
Well this time I will finish it. And if I don't...
...then fuck Vagrant Story.
Vagrant Story was a pretty good game, but I can see why some people can't get into it.

Not by me. I did too.

« on: January 22, 2009, 11:02:03 pm »Quote from: SephirothYou ignorant traitor. I'll tell you. This was an itinerant race.
They would migrate in, settle the Planet, then move on… At the end of their
harsh, hard journey, they would find the Promised Land and supreme happiness.
But, those who stopped their migrations built shelters and elected to lead an
easier life. They took that which the Cetra and the planet had made without
giving back one whit in return! Those are your ancestors.
Long ago, disaster struck this planet. Your ancestors escaped… They
survived because they hid. The Planet was saved by sacrificing the Cetra. After
that, your ancestors continued to increase. Now all that's left of the Cetra is
in these reports.
VII had all of it's people as descendants of the Cetra who went against their current way of life.
How does Shinra's descendants fit into this? They can't be the Cetra do they?
I'm not seeing how that contradicts anything.

« on: January 22, 2009, 10:42:52 am »That's pretty much just a list, Kebster.
And I don't see how FFVI is ever "meh" (or FFIV for that matter...I could give FFV to you though)...And Tactics Ogre getting a "meh" when FFTA gets a "Yes" is absolute BS.
I did need to edit it from the SoY style list, though...
Whaaaat? FFV is awesome. The job system is my favorite. The story was maybe a small step back from FFIV, but it had some great music.

I'm probably just being a Japanophile, but I do like the Japanese versions better. BTW, couldn't find the PS1 version of it, but it's almost exactly like the PSP version except Dhaos has a different voice actor.

I was seriously considering it awhile back, but then I saw that there was a remake AND a sequel for Tales of Destiny on the PS2. The problem is, they're both Japan only. So that kinda puts me in a frustrating situation. I don't know jack about PS2 modding (and I don't have the patience either), so I have no way of playing the remake and sequel. Sure, I could just play the PS1 version of the first game, but knowing that the remake and sequel exist would bug the crap out of me (I'm already kinda pissed off about the FF4 sequel).
I'll probably play it eventually though.
I heard that the GBA port was kinda meh, but I can't really speak from experience. It could just be people whining about English voice acting though. From the videos I saw, the sound quality suffered like the GBA ports of the FF games, but the graphics were like the PS1 version.

Speaking of Tales of Phantasia, that's what I'm currently playing. I have recently defeated Jahmir and freed Prince Laird of Alvanista from Dhaos's control.
I'm playing the GBA port. And this time, I will finish it. Currently, I regret loosing my save file, but I don't mind playing it again from the start.
