Polling / Re: If you could change Chrono Cross, how would you do it?
« on: January 20, 2009, 03:15:16 pm »

Again I point to the final pacing of he story.  This happens, then this happens, then these guys appear, then this place needs to be sorted out, then these guys need to be stopped, finally, at the end...  Oh by the way, this is all to save Schala.

That's the best CC summary of all time.

Chrono Trigger DS Analysis / Re: Strategy on beating... [SPOILERS!]

(DD has a powerful attack that can take 700+ worth of damage.)

No attack from DD did more than 200 damage that I knew of. I'm in the 80s on level, with everyone's equipment maxed out.

I did this at the low 60s, but I'm pretty sure DD has an attack that causes massive damage to one character no matter what armor they're wearing. I did some research to make sure it wasn't just me, and a few other walkthroughs mention this.

If anyone gets this, please keep me updated. I'd like to know if it's worth the purchase.

This is pretty cool. I'm looking forward to hearing more reactions from you. I haven't played the game in a few years. What do you think of the battle system so far?

I'd tweak gameplay to make it more difficult after new game+. I'd also flesh out some of the endings. I think this was a problem in CC as well. For the most part the endings were fine, but there's always one or two that make you wonder if it was worth the effort. I may be greedy, but it'd nice to have the alternate endings as detailed as the game's main ending.

Since he often uses MP Busters to counter magic, I went with a purely physical team. Crono offers great offensive magic and good physical attacks, so he's really the best of both worlds. I used him, Ayla, and Robo.

Use Crono's Luminare while you have MP. Then you can switch to physical attacks.

Robo's Apocalypse Arm equipped with the Dragon's Tear came it handy here. Every attack had a 30% chance of dealing 9999 damage which was nice. Also his Heal Beam could come in handy to keep your party's HP in the 900s. (DD has a powerful attack that can take 700+ worth of damage.)

You can start Ayla off with her most powerful techs (doubles and even the triples), but beware of the MP buster counter.

If you have a lot of ethers and prefer using magic, I'd swap Ayla with Lucca. Her Flare works just as well as Luminare. When the party is low on MP have her use Ethers and Elixirs.

I'm not going to quote it, but I agree with everything in Zergplex's above post. In fact, it's really a perfect character study of what we know about Dalton.

While Dalton was somewhat of an important figure in the kingdom of Zeal, by no means did he have what it took to be a brilliant military leader. After the fall of Zeal he did his best to take over the scraps of the kingdom, but he failed there as well.

That being said...the Dalton we saw in the Dimensional Vortex is a man out of time. No one knows the limits to how long he has been there, and what he has been doing since. The limits to his power and knowledge at that point are unknown, but we can't ignore everything we know about the man's personality. He's still an egomaniac. He's still a bit of a buffoon. Those are his weaknesses that will probably never change. He may have new abilities and knowledge that will make him a bigger threat, but that's all speculation.

The way I see it, if a direct sequel to Chorno Trigger is ever made (which I somehow doubt), Dalton should start out as the obvious antagonist. He's been manipulating events throughout time for his advantage. (ala Biff in Back to the Future 2.) Despite this, he's still an egomaniac...and a bit of a clown. No matter how powerful he's become, I don't see him as the brilliant demi-god type. So, as I and others have mentioned before he should start out as the main antagonist, but through the course of the game we learn that his time travels have somehow caused a bigger threat. Something that threatens the balance of reality itself. This would explain how and why Dalton manipulated the events leading to the fall of Guardia, and how he got more powerful, but it wouldn't be out of character with Dalton's buffoonish personality.

Sorry for the long rant, but if Dalton's story ever does progress (which I doubt it will) this is the direction I would take it.

Secret of the Forest from CT is my absolute favorite. Tough decision with all the great music in all three games.

I used to be just like this -

Until I started using Swagger by Chrono.

*old spice whistle*

First I laughed at your post. Then I saw your avatar and laughed even more. Good times.

Not to get too far off topic, but I wish they would just re-release the origin FFT for the DS.

132
The Lunar series has also done this.

Another option I might add to a future game would be the edition of some sort of diffculty + option. Once the game is completed for the first time and you move on to New Game+ the Chrono games tend to get insanely easy. For example, maxing out the characters in CT seems almost pointless when you can easily kill everything at level 60+. So I propose that once you unlock New Game+ you should have the option to raise the games difficulty as you continue. Maybe the monsters can level proportionate to your level. I've seen certain RPGs do this.

Did Magus start the war? How involved do we even know he was? We really only see him in his castle & hear about people saying how fierce he is...and he bitch-slaps Cyrus & Glenn, of course...I think the humans started the war by encroaching on Mystic territories (look at how there are Mystics on that mountain behind Truce in 600AD [& prior] and the Frog King in Guardia Forest as well)...

I'm glad someone brought this up. I don't feel like Magus ever started a war. The humans indeed encroached on the Mystics. The Mystics hyped Magus up to be their great leader. Hence the war with Magus.

That's fine, you can just not play it. But I mean for those that are polar opposites to that view, they can see CT as if Crono wasn't just blindly doing everything or just mute.

Yeah. I can see that. It'd be a grueling project, but I'm sure someone out there has attempted it.
