It's slightly ironic how the gurus function/wind up in Trigger:

Melchoir, Guru of Life, makes weapons that kill (Masamune, Rainbow, etc.)

Gaspar, Guru of Time, ends up in a place where time ceases to exist, or else functions very strangely.

Belthasar, Guru of Reason, loses his sanity in the ruined future.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Why Crono?

Most assume that Magus was killed by Lavos in the Original Timeline.  When Crono and Co. interferred, they messed up the summoning so that they were all chucked into the Gates instead.

Hmm. You agree with the theory, then?

Yes, I'm inclined to now.  Basically the problem stems from what happens to Home's Lynx.  Does he die or vanish as soon as Chronopolis becomes the Dead Sea, or is there another reason why he wouldn't go after Lucca?

I haven't looked over the Dead Sea article in awhile, so it either doesn't cover this or I've forgotten.  I'd assume that as soon as Home splinters off from the "correct" timeline Chronopolis becomes the Dead Sea, but what then happens to Home's FATE/Lynx?  Does Lynx vanish as well, or is he left wondering what the heck to do now?  Another's FATE can reach across dimensions, so is Home's FATE just shut down or something?

I kind of like the evidence for the orphanage incident taking place after the Split; now Lucca could be alive still in the Ideal Timeline...

There are a lot of people who have misconceptions with a game as complex and hard to understand as Chrono Cross.

I'll definately second that!  :)

Okay, you're probably right, and the timeline on this website states 1015 as well.  The Ultimania guide is said to be a questionable source, but the fact that it's on the Compendium Chronology without a "U" as warning before it means it's verified somewhere else.

Another website with a detailed story guide provided me with the "between 1006 and 1010" date.  Probably a typo or a misconception on their part.

Lynx attacks the orphanege in 1015 AD.

Where is this stated?  I always thought it was sometime between 1006 (when Wazuki is possessed by FATE) and 1010 when the dimensions split.

How old is Kid when the orphanage is burned?  If 1015 is when it happens, she'd be 12-15 years old, but isn't she younger than that when it happens?  Some have speculated that Home's Kid was lost in the Dead Sea along with Home's Viper, Devas, Harle, and Lynx.

Well, I was under the impression that since the dimensions split in 1010 (when Serge drowned), everything occuring before then is identical to both dimensions.  Lynx attacks the orphanage before 1010, therefore, this has occured in both dimensions.

It's unclear what role religion has in the Chrono Universe.  There's the dating system, and then the Cathedral and nuns in the Middle Ages, but that's about it...

It is true that Guardia was formed in 1 AD or whatever, so the datying system might be based around that, and writers/translators were too lazy to come up with alternatives to BC and AD or they just didn't care.

Time, Space, and Dimensions / Huge Chrono Trigger Paradox

In a sense, maybe.  Say, you change Timeline A so that A is sent to the DBT and B is created.  Then you go back and change things so that the timeline is basically back to how it was in Timeline A.  Timeline B is sent to the DBT, and Timeline C is created (even if it's identical to Timeline A).  The DBT has a lot of discarded timelines in there; must be a big place.  Basically every time Crono and Co. travel back and forth through gates they're rewriting the whole timeline, even if the changes are small.

I'm assuming that in the original timeline, he perished in the Ocean Palace.  The few survivors in the Last Village gathered together to attempt to rebuild civilization.

I guess this makes it critical that you defeat him and destroy the Blackbird following the Ocean Palace disaster after Crono's meddling.  If he were to survive, the creation of the Kingdom of Guardia could be jeopardized.

In a sense, you could say Gaspar guided most of the events of Trigger, much like Belthasar is the mastermind behind the plot of Chrono Cross.  When will Melchior get his turn?

Hmmmm, maybe, if Chrono Break ever does come into existence, it will be the final episode in the trilogy, with Melchior (Guru of Life/Wisdom) finally healing the universe after it's been warped, rewritten, and splintered who knows how many times.  It would be appropriate for the Guru of Life to finish out the story, finally bringing healing to the world.

This is how I see it:

The Timeline is a sequence of events. Person A exists at 2000 AD on the timeline. He goes back to 1000 AD, and is immediately disconnected from the timeline that created him, in fact from 1000 AD on the Events are rewritten to fit the new timeline. The former sequence is discarded. Thus, even if he goes on a shooting spree and kills his great-great-great ancestor, he will still live, as he has been disconnected from the Timeline and still exists. If he goes to 2000 AD, he will end up in a different time. However, if an alternate Person A exists said alternate will be eliminated on the return of the original Person A.

Does that make sense?

From what I understand, this is accurate according to the theories on Time Travelers's Immunity and the Time Bastard Theorem.

No, clearly the incestous relationship between Schala/Kid and Magus/Serge is canon.

Polling / 7/2/05 - Which Gurus' invention has had the most impact?

I went with the Mammon Machine, although it was it, the Masamune, and the Ocean Palace the caused the events the flung Janus and the Gurus into different times, destroyed Zeal, and sent Schala into the DBT.  A very difficult choice to make indeed!
