Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: What if...?
« on: November 30, 2009, 03:47:57 pm »
I actually think Magus would've been best off if he'd ended up back in the BC Era.  He would've been revered as a god by the humans, probably would've taken Ayla's place as chief, and had a chance to try and avoid the Zeal situation altogether or even attack Lavos when he first fell (not likely, though, as he buries himself pretty quickly).

Remember, though, that there were huge amounts of dreamstone available in the BC era.  Magus could've increased his powers by quite a bit by exposing himself to them.

Another question, though... isn't the "Red Rock," the Dreamstone, a creation of the Frozen Flame?  And thus, shouldn't it not have existed until AFTER Lavos fell?

We don't know at all that Janus is adaptable. We only know that he didn't die. We also don't know that Janus left Zeal knowing how to summon Lavos. It seems much more likely that he developed that magic over the course of his time in the Middle Ages.

I was a bit unclear about the summoning lavos bit. What I meant was, he obviously knew where to begin, because he does develop the technique later on.

As for adaptability, I'm not sure what else you call someone who, as I stated, is able to dupe the entire Mystic army. Later, when Janus ends up back in Zeal, he immediately takes disguise and dupes the entire Zealian court, including his mother, sister, and his younger self.  He's later willing to join your party when he recognizes that it's the best way to get to Lavos (and thus, Schalla).

How is that not showing adaptability?

My friend rented the game when it first came out in the states.  I had played FF4 already and was acquainted with RPGs through that and Secret of Mana, but Chrono Trigger was the first game I'd played with such an active story and, at the time, seemed a mixture of FF4 and Mana's battle systems.  Also, the world was undeniably vibrant and the music was incredible.  I still remember going out later that week with my Mom to Toys R' Us to buy the cartridge.  Those days, you had to bring this tag up to this little window and then they'd give you the game box and what not.

After that, I played it about once a year for about ten years.  By now I know pretty much everything there is to know about the series.  Though I've never actually played Radical Dreamers.

i think what happened was the fire and all that that rained from the heavens, not only destroying the life below, blocked out the sun. fire has been shown to actually promote plant growth in some instances, so for all we know after destruction rained from the heavens plants could have overtaken the world.
thats obviously not the case.
instead, the sun is blocked out. plants cant grow, food cant grow, and the people are barely getting by.

Yes, that's more in line with my thinking.  The fire seemed to cause mostly superficial damage.  Actually, the earthquake was probably the most immediately devastating effect of Lavos' rise to the surface.

Although Lavos' most powerful attack from within his shell is to rain fire from the heavens, it alone would not be enough to kill everything on the planet.  Hell, depending on your playthrough, it doesn't even kill Crono and co.

Although, on that note, I always thought it made the most logistical sense for them to crash the epoch into Lavos and thus skip that fight entirely.  It's the ending I consider canon.

I think the obvious answer here is "die."  I mean, it's Lavos.  Unless you had access to some kind of underground bunker and could get there very quickly, you'd be killed by the RAINING FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS.

Do we actually know what happened on the day Lavos awoke?  I assume he had to launch fire for quite some time to actually destroy the world.

NM, found a copy on the ever-useful Galbadia Hotel.  That really is one of the best sites ever created, my god.  The forums have so many torrent links to rare video game and anime shit it's ridiculous.  They're even ordered and organized for your convenience.

As always, good find utunnels. This is pretty interesting; I don't know why, but I always assumed FATE was female and all the dragons were male...very interesting.

So nothing is genderless?

It's easy to assume FATE is female because, if I recall, it has breasts.  Of course, I could be mixing FATE up with Mother from CT, I do that a lot because of the Prometheus connection.

Janus has proved himself capable of adapting to pretty much any situation, even as a child. Think on the fact that he somehow, as a child, convinced the leaders of the mystics to rally around him.

He also knew about Lavos and how to summon him.  He hung around with the Gurus and had a lot of their knowledge, too.  Presumably he also knew about the power of the red rock, the dreamstone.

With this knowledge and his magical ability, Janus would've risen to power in any of the time periods he landed in.  In fact, the only two periods that would've given him trouble were 1999 and 2300.

In the former, Janus would be forced to fight Lavos as a child and would undoubtedly lose.  In the latter, he would find himself in a world with little food or warmth and such a world is a hard place for a well-cared-for Zealian royal child.  That Belthasar was able to survive in that place is a testament to the old man's will and ingenuity.  This scenario still poses some interesting points, though.  Being forced to live on nothing and facing the pain of human existence may have changed Janus for the better.  It's possible that he would've dropped his anger and hatred in such a situation and grown to become a kind and thoughtful leader of men.  With his magical abilities, he may even have been able to lead humanity to some kind of comeback against the devastation of the world, though the chance that the world would ever be able to sustain natural life again would still be slim.

What would happen when he eventually met Balthasar is uncertain.

Due to school, I'm a little behind the times, but I just noticed that the "Bad Dudes" (mostly made up of people from OneUp Studios) have released a new Chrono Album and I intend to get it.

However, I also noticed that five of the tracks are only available through the CD, which is a limited release and is permanently sold out.  While I understand the economic incentive behind releasing tracks this way, it never ceases to piss me off when people do this.

Now I have to ask around the net as to whether anyone has this CD and can make those five tracks available to me.  If so, email me: runawayintothenight@gmail.com

I much appreciate it.

General Discussion / Re: Wow, they hate Zeality

Thank you!  I've been convinced for years now that OCR, despite having some really good music, is made up almost entirely of dicks and assholes, and occasionally some mixture of the two.  Nice to see some confirmation on that.

It's some harsh stuff in there, including allegations that Zeality wrote the cease and desist letter himself. n Why do they hate you so much, man?  What did you DO?

UPDATE!

Part XVII now complete and posted:
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5066583/18/Chrono_Break

For those of you still with us, this furthers the events of the Night of Flames and has a little twist at the end.  Of course... the question still remains... what's happening with Crono?

Sorry for not replying sooner, I wasn't involved in or even aware of Echoes until tonight, and I jumped over here as fast I could to give my condolences.  I have to say, I know that no one can say anything, but I hope one of you has kept a copy of the game you worked for five years to create.  Please, I hope one of you had the intelligence and foresight to quietly back up a copy on your home machine, and I hope you're enjoying playing it through even now.

It will take more than this to make me stop enjoying SE games.  But I really wish they'd stop beating up the Chrono fans.
