Polling / Re: Favorite Cross Character
« on: July 24, 2008, 01:59:05 am »
Where's Fargo, Grobyc, Doc, Glenn, Draggy, Norris, Starky or even Radius? I like all of those guys more than the few choices. Of those, I have to say Fargo, although all the ones I listed are awesome.

I suppose it's possible, but I'm going to pull the over-analysis card on this one. The creators never gave any indication that Lavos was anything but evil and parasitic. Occams razor suggest that if there's a simpler suggestion (that Lavos is evil), that's probably it.

However that's not to say it's impossible, I just don't think it's at all canon.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Guardia Line Paradox in Cross?

Ayla has Time Traveler's Immunity. If Leah gets warped after the events of Chrono Trigger then Ayla still lives to have the Guardia Line.

Okay, any of these would be awesome. I don't expect some of these, and all of them are very unrealistic. However, probability dictates that the more wishes I have, the more likely it is that some of them will come true!
New attacks (Like more lasers for Robo)
Double Techs for Magus (even if it's just with Crono)
New Character *
New Game Plus advancement**
New items, especially for Magus
Correction of a few translation errors, most importantly the whole "Step-brother" thing.
A completed map of Apocalypse. That way, maybe the dungeon could be in 1999! :D
A remastering of music, but the ability to switch between the old style and the new. While I would like some music to be more clear, all of the music are absolutely PERFECT! There is no soundtrack in any game that matches Chrono Trigger. If they botch it up in the remastering, however, I'd like the ability to play the old version.
A retcon about the deaths of the main characters in Radical Dreamers/Chrono Cross. Don't get me wrong, I love Crono Cross, but Lucca, Robo and Crono are some of the best characters in video game history! I don't want to have the heroes that saved the world to die anti-climatically after so much hard work. (Of course, this is assuming that Crono died in the Guardia overthrow, that Lucca was killed by the much less powerful Lynx and that the Prometheus circuit is Robo, and also that Robo wasn't time-cloned when he was sent back into the future)

*Possibly Schala, although isn't she supposed to be less powerful than Magus? Other good includable characters could be Johnny (lol), a reptite or a Nu.
**Let me explain. I would like a Chrono Cross-like ability to switch in characters I don't have yet. This would have no effect on the story, but I'd be able to use Magus on earlier bosses without cheats. Including Magus. Awesome.

Trigger: Lucca, Robo, Magus (Or Lucca Crono Magus if I want to do even more damage)
Cross: Serge, Fargo, Grobyc

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: CTDS... a tad disappointing

I gave this a lot of thought myself, but you know what? The 2D is part of the charm for me. So far, I haven't liked any 3D apparition of the Chrono Trigger characters more than the sprites/cutscene versions.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Masamune power theory
« on: July 23, 2008, 04:40:43 pm »
I noticed in the Articles section that a popular theory on how the Masamune effects Magus is because Frog was empowered to fight Magus and therefor had a greater effect on him. Also, in Chrono Cross, Masa and Mune had the ability to fuse into Serge's swallow.

My inquiry then is this: Couldn't Masa and Mune fuse into Magus' Scythe? According to this theory, the more will that the person has to strike down their enemy, the more power the Masamune has. Magus spent several years brooding on how to kill the monster that destroyed his only home, corrupted his mother and tortured his sister. For a large portion of his life, his main goal, beyond any other was to destroy Lavos.

However, this theory is somewhat destroyed by the fact that Frog was trying to protect his country and his home whereas Magus was acting in hatred. We know that the Masamune was corrupted after Chrono Trigger (but we don't really know why)

Welcome / Birthday / Seeya! Forum / Re: Welcome, welcome!

Hey guys. Long time player of Chrono Trigger, occasional visitor of the Compendium, newtime poster here. It seems that all the analysis on this site is very in depth and thought through.

Also the fan creations here are amazing. I can honestly say that this is one of the most advanced fanbases I've ever seen.

In most fiction, this is difficult to discuss and very complicated to solve. However, if you think about it, the Chrono Trigger universe in particular may have an excuse. The traveling mechanisms at first are the gates alone. Wherever or whenever this Entity is, especially if it's the planet, the gates were probably created relative to its own position. Since the Epoch travels to the gate specific eras, it's probable that the location it travels to is based on the location of the era's gates.
