General Discussion / Re: Video Game Discussion Thread

As far as RDR goes, I've been playing the game for about 20+ hours, and I haven't even touched the main game yet. The online mode is so fun!
You're so right there, the online multiplayer is extremely fun. I started playing the multiplayer the other day and haven't gone back to the main game since.

General Discussion / Videogame HUDs? Your opinion...
« on: May 21, 2010, 11:42:36 am »
So here's the deal, I'm currently working on the user interface for a videogame and wanted peoples opinions on things to do with the in game HUD. All I can tell you about the game is that it's a post-apocalyptic first person shooter.

I'd like to know how you's like the following things to be displayed to you when you're playing a game.

~HUD~
- Hit Points/Vitality
- Crosshair
- Stamina/Oxygen
- Radiation/Infection
- Alert message positioning
- Ammo and Grenades
- Radar/Compass
- Weapon Heat
- Experience Points and Levelling Up
- Scoring
- Player/Character Name
- Inventory/Status Screens
- Giant Freaking Laser Cannon Ammo (Because I said so!)
- ...And feel free to add anything you think is important, it all helps!

Not all are applicable to the game I'm working on this for but I'd still be interested in knowing. So please, take a moment to share your opinions and other such stuff, it will be much appreciated.

I recommend picking up Red Dead Redemption, it does take about an hour or so of playing to get into it (much like a GTA game) but once you do get into it you'll be hooked I assure you. It runs really smoothly, not a whole lot of load screens and gameplay is near to perfect, the only real flaws being the lack of any real HP GUI and the horse controls are a pain to get used to but you'll get used to them fast no less. Another few games that are coming out this year that I'll be snatching up are Halo Reach, Fallout: New Vegas and Fable 3 all of which look to be shaping up awesomely.

Maybe this'd be a good excuse for me to whip up some 3D badassery, Chrono style! Hmmm?

I got FFXIII for my birthday on Friday, I must say I'm impressed, everything about it is brilliant thus far (I'm only up to chapter five).

Fan Art / Re: LAVOS?! (Not mine)

I always thought of Lavos as a Pinecone, but then again I'm rather deranged and such.

Hell, Trade L4D2 and get Borderlands. That game is a lot of fun, even more fun if you have someone to play co-op with (online or offline).

I've been playing a lot of Modern Warfare 2 lately, I wasn't really a big fan of the Call of Duty series until this latest one. If you haven't played it yet I strongly recommend it, it's amazing.

Also, I pre-ordered Mass Effect 2 collectors edition today, I hope the bonus DVD with the making of and all that good stuff isn't shitty like the one that came with the Far Cry 2 collectors edition, that was a real letdown.

I think the last 3 (MW, WaW & MW2) were really pretty interesting, good CoD games, but I have never been much of a CoD fan either...Too many times online I feel like it's either me crying getting caught in constant snipers because I have no real clue about their map layouts and little time to learn them or else other people constantly whining about whoever else is sniping...and then I say fuck it & just go back to Halo...>_>

The Mass Effect platinum edition I got came with an extra disc with that kind of junk and an extra scenario (& gamer pics! OOoooOOOoooo...*eye roll emoticon*)...

Yeah, I rather enjoyed WaW, playing Nazi Zombies online with some of my mates was lots of fun. With Modern Warfare 2, I got used to the maps and weapons fairly quick. But still, I find myself constantly resorting to using Akimbo weapons like the P90 and .44 Magnum to combat the chances of missing due to LAG! Damn American hosts! :D

Oh and a tip here, Akimbo P90s in MW2 increases the chance of hitting your enemies in the head believe it or not. (Roughly a 40% chance with Steady Aim on.)

Magus would still get "sent" to 12000 B.C. His original trip there is an act of time traveling, and so it's protected by TTI.

Ah, quite right that.

General Discussion / Re: How often do you swear?
« on: December 21, 2009, 08:50:12 am »
I swear a hell of a lot, I try not to but I can't help it sometimes. To be totally honest, I say 'Don't make me kick your ass' and 'Shit' at least twice a day, but over here saying those things is just part of every day life, just look at Kevin Rudd XD

In my opinion, the day isn't complete until you've threatened to kick someones ass. Try it!

I mean I'm technically self employed so it doesn't really matter, but still...

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Janus after Lavos' death in 12000BC?
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:53:46 am »
I was standing waiting for my ride home tonight and I started thinking about what would happen to Janus/Magus in 600AD after Crono and the gang destroyed Lavos in 12000BC. (I'm not talking about the Magus accompanying Crono and the gang)

- In the original timeline Magus went after Lavos and disappeared (possibly killed by Lavos? - or this reality never even occurred)
- In Crono's Timeline Magus was confronted by Crono and the others and he ended up back in 12000BC

So what happens to the other Magus? The one sent from Crono's timeline as Janus to 600AD? When he summons Lavos does he just get sucked into an empty pocket dimension where Lavos once resided or what? Because technically Lavos is destroyed so there'd be an alternate Magus that never got sent back to 12000BC or fought Lavos (you know, with Lavos having the handicap of being dead!)

Is there some sort of paradox here? Maybe I'm onto something...

Anyway what do you think happened to this alternate Janus/Magus that was in the timeline after Lavos was destroyed in 12000BC?

Note: I mustn't continue to refer to them as Crono and the gang, sounds too 70s...

I ain't gonna spoil anything, but the 6th Assassins Tomb in Assassins Creed 2 is a pain in the ass. Be prepared.
