Hmm true =x that does make me doubt...

*watches cutscene again*

Eclipse Magus: A new foe has arisen here, in this endless expanse that is Time's Eclipse. It feasts upon thoughts, dreams, and memories. Do not think to meddle here. This enemy is my affair.

This line makes me think that Magus was trying to fight a memory-eating monster. The result to lose a fight against a memory-eating monster is, well...

Schala did seem to teleport him back to safety, and Magus could have very well erased his own memories... but there's no hint to a memory-deleting spell, while there is a hint for a memory-eating monster which Magus was just in front of =X even if said monster was still good enough to just let him go away.

Technically, Magus used the Dream Devourer to erase his identity. It was still his own intent. He didn't so much surrender as he did just throw himself at the beast. It's like the difference between getting run over by a truck because you couldn't cross the street in time, and throwing yourself in front of a truck because you want to be run over.

Magus wasn't getting in front of the truck with the intention to get run over, he was "OH YEAH MOTHERFUCKING TRUCK I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS", and then he realized he was powerless, so he just ended saying "OH K PWNED =/, NEXT TIME I'LL GET YOU, FUCKING TRUCK."

He clearly didn't realize he was powerless until Schala told him, I'm sure that had it been Magus' choice, he would have gotten Schala outta there and killed Lavos.

I'm pretty sure Magus had the ability to escape without being eaten [...]

Doesn't change the fact that the Dream Devourer did it, not Magus. =X
I think that Magus simply surrendered. But only because he knew that by surrendering at that battle, be might have a chance of winning the war.

http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Magus_(Guile_identity).html

Quote
At the end of Chrono Trigger DS, Magus erases his own identity and begins anew with the feeling he must search for something.

Objection. The Dream Devourer is the one who devours his memories. Magus simply gets pwned and while dream devourer is going OM NOM NOM DELICIOUS MEMORIES I MUST EATS IT, Magus simply accepts this by saying that if that's to happen, so be it. Magus never pushes the reset button on his brain. :franky

Great work!!

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Does Gaspar Age?

The brink of time is an incredibly better definition for it. That place is not where time ends, it's not the far far far future when universe implodes, or when golf becomes a good sport.

n. brink  (brngk)
1. a. The upper edge of a steep or vertical slope: the brink of a cliff.
b. The margin of land bordering a body of water.
2. The point at which something is likely to begin; the verge.

Instead, the brink of time is a place outside of time, judging from facts, even a pocket dimension. Gaspar is not affected by the changes in time that Crono and the "other travelers" make, he seems to be able to watch all the changes in time from that place (Crimson Echoes Belthasar would be jealous), since he's always on date to the changes you've done in your travels. Gaspar lies on the very verge of time, on the corners of time, just far enough to remain unaffected by time travel changes.

But back on topic, this doesn't mean that time doesn't run there, Ayla still gets bored if you don't get her in party, Spekkio tells you that's it's been long since last seeing you, Gaspar takes a nap and wakes up. The time there is unaffected by the "central" timeline, which is why it's the brink... but there's still time going on in there. So time hasn't ended, so no end of time. :P

To sum it up, the end of time means "somewhere" in time, the place being the end. The brink of time means outside of time, on the verge, the edge, the outskirts of time, where time has no reach, but still has a kind of time on its own (else the game would end after 2300 A.D., lawl). Just imagine time as a road, all srs business happen on the road as the road goes on, the brink of time also runs as long as the road of time goes... but it's right outside the road, so srs business don't reach there.

Haha, just for the note, xradicaldreamers.net is not really a Chrono site, we intended to make a section but... eh too much work to even get close to the compendium, haha. It's more of a music website, mainly having a X JAPAN website. But the Chrono spirit is in it!

I'll let Pan post something else ;o

I'm scarred. For life.

On other notes, has any japanese-speaking compendiumites checked the text file that Pan attached? We could use some help if you see anything wrong. Knowing the real meaning of some song titles is pretty interesting, even though Secret of the Forest is a lie ;_;...

A talking Shinji Hashimoto doll. It will have three sayings that rotate:

1. "Why does everyone ask about Chrono Trigger?"

2. "Hahahaha. That's not what the sales tell me."

3. "If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"

Scarier than Furbys.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Nostalgia as a central theme in CC.
« on: September 18, 2009, 02:27:50 am »
Taking the introduction video and ending video, namely, the parts involving the journals, as a whole, it's... basically Kid reflecting on the events that happen in Chrono Cross. To the extent that I wonder if maybe Chrono Cross IS supposed to be the contents of that journal.

This is obvious, and a big retake from Radical Dreamers, which was all a story. The diary at CC even tells that the tale closes, so no doubts in there, that's the way CC is told, but in a much more vivid way than Radical Dreamers.

Maybe I'm just being selective about it, but if the "End of Time" is the best title to give this place, then I defy anyone to come up with a better title.

The farthest reaches of time.
The outskirts of time.
The brink of time.

All easy to identify if you're a Chrono fan, heh.

Also,
The fucking blue screen of time.
