General Discussion / Re: What's your "Worst game Ever"?
« on: June 24, 2008, 06:01:51 pm »
I do not remember the name of the person whose perspective I chose. I believe it was the kid that was some type of mail carrier (or something to that effect). I remember going through a small castle like area and that was fine. Then after I got my second character in my party there was a canyon area with some type of bridge (may have just been a log, cannot remember well) where my characters were split up and I forced into a fight with two skeletons (I believe they were skeletons). I believe I had to fight with the non-attack based character in the party, or my character was already hurt, but whatever the case they did more damage to me than I could do to them, and I did not have enough items at that point in the game, so it was actually impossible for me to go any further since you cannot run from fights. After trying that a few times I got very frustrated and never played it again. I do not think I was very far into the game. Only a couple of hours at the most.

General Discussion / Re: What's your "Worst game Ever"?
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:27:27 pm »Ha, now this one I will give some credit to. The game isn't THAT bad when you get used to it (and I do mean used to it), but it certainly isn't great...outside of the soundtrack (best battle themes ever). Believe it or not, I actually completed the game and was working on a second playthrough before I moved on.
Grandia Xtreme: To be fair, I played this for a ridiculously short time and stopped. The voice acting is beyond awful, the plot/characters didn't seem interesting, and from what I've seen of the battle system, I doubt I would like it very much. Perhaps this is all too quick of a judgment, but for now, I'm saying it sucks.
It is possible I started with the wrong character in Unlimited Saga. Perhaps that person's particular story emphasized some of the elements I did not like about the game. Then again, it is also possible that we just prefer different things in our games because...
I actually enjoyed Grandia Xtreme. Then again, form what I read in reviews and forums I am the only one.

The voice acting was something I can tone out, so that did not bother me as much. I also played this Grandia first, so all of the game concepts were new to me. I did play Grandia II and III after, both of which have better story and character development, and Grandia III has much better voice acting (and I would suggest if you have not tried any other Grandia games). If I had played Grandia III first and then Xtreme I may not have liked it as much, but who is to say?
While I did not think Kingdom Hearts II was quite as bad as you, I do agree that it was far below the first game.

General Discussion / Re: Satanism = Bad?
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:02:30 am »
Is satanism bad? Well, good and bad are a matter of interpretation. That is every individual has their own opinion based on their own perception of reality (which itself can be a whole other debate).
It might be more effective to instead argue whether practicing satanism is beneficial, as in does it provide some value in your quest to become a better person (regardless of what you think "better" is).
In that respect, I would have to say that I do not see the practice of satanism as beneficial because it, like many religions, establishes a set of beliefs that are to be followed on faith without, upon further examination, actually answering any of the questions they propose to answer (the general things, such as what is your purpose, why are you here, how did you come to be here, et cetera). I believe in working towards achieving a state of higher consciousness, which necessitates free thinking. This is something that I find hard to do with the dogma of organized religion.
That is not to say that there are not beneficial principles of satanism (thought I have not looked into it in depth enough to know of any, it is possible that there are some). Again, like many religions, there are concepts of morality and grains of wisdom and life lessons in the myths and legends that may and do cause inspiration for greater things. However, this may be done through research and does not require participation in masses or other rituals (although attending them can help in gaining a better understanding of the mindset of people that a particular denomination attracts).
So, back to the main question. Is Satanism bad? While there may be something to gain from understanding the principles Satanism is founded on, I believe the actual practice derived and taught from said principles would not be beneficial in the long run.
Than again this is also based on my own perceptions. Who is to say what would ultimately be beneficial to you but yourself?

General Discussion / Re: What's your "Worst game Ever"?
« on: June 20, 2008, 05:28:00 pm »There are ways that one can obtain slightly dubious copies of FFIV that are not subject to bad translations and has superior game mechanics to the American Release (every character has a "special" ability that was sometimes taken out of the original American release, like the Dark Knight Cecil being able to use the Dark Wave attack). As such, I'd highly recommend playing the "original" (retranslated). Wonderful gameplay, wonderful plot, etc. Considering that the remake of previous FF games have at times been below the quality of the original releases (the remake of FFI sticks out in my mind as an abomination), I do not have high hopes for the remake of FFIV.
True, that is always a possibility (Which FFI remake are we talking about anyway? Also, many of them were not really remakes per se, at least not how I see them). However, that is not always the case. I played a translated FFIII and enjoyed the remake on the DS more, so I think there is a lot of potential for the FFIV remake. I Suppose we'll know soon enough if it lives up to expectations or not.

« on: June 20, 2008, 01:30:11 pm »I've heard a lot of good things about Final Fantasy IV as well....haha. I'm actually planning on playing it. Don't know if I should just play the original or play the remake for the DS coming out soon.
If you have not played either I would suggest waiting for the DS remake, since it looks like everything is getting a boost (graphics, gameplay, story, music, et cetera). then again, with the bad translation of the original in some parts there are some very funny quotes, so it might be worth it to play that at some point just to see how far it came.

« on: June 20, 2008, 12:41:37 pm »2. Final Fantasy 4... It was like having root canals done on all of my teeth without numbing and I don't even know how a root canal feels... never had one.
Either way. I find it hard to believe I pushed through that piece of shit.
Interesting. FFIV was actually one of my favorite FFs. What did you not like about the game?

Fan Project News/Updates / Re: Feedback Needed: Chrono Compendium Aegis System
« on: June 19, 2008, 06:37:32 pm »How many people are actively working on Crimson Echoes right now?Officially, I think 20 or so people can see the CE forums. But right now, IMO, the active team is pretty much three people: jsondaq, Cybersarkany, and me. And I'm not doing much besides testing the patches jsondaq releases.
Anything you could use some help on?

This is a very interesting idea and it has a lot of potential.
How many people are actively working on Crimson Echoes right now? The Chrono Cross Hack is still in the R&D stages, so maybe some of the people form there can help out with getting CE finished, since the end result of CE might affect our project as well. I think it would be beneficial for all involved, but I was unsure if the CE team wanted to try and keep it only between a certain amount of people.

General Discussion / Re: Tearjerking moments from Video Games.
« on: June 19, 2008, 08:18:24 am »Aeris getting her Come-up ence? Translanka, what did she do to you? I found her to be one of my favorite characters in the game...
She was one of my favorite characters as well, though my friend dislikes Aerith (his reasoning was that her limits, though useful, did not make sense. I am mad as heck so now I cam going to heal everyone) and loves Tifa (because she was a strong willed woman), so to each his own I suppose.
At any rate, the scene where Aerith dies was a tearjerker for me on several levels (both because I lost one of my favorite characters, as well as the time invested in her development).

If you follow the link MagilsugaM put up on the first page for one of the bad games it lists the top 10 or 20 worst games and ET is on the list, so you can read the review for it.

You mean so that it appears as text?
When you use the hyperlink command you get the following without the spaces:
[ url ] [ /url ]
Enter your text in between the brackets: ]text[
Enter your url after the first url in the brackets: [ url=whatever your url is ]
For example, your link to that site would then appear like this, with this being what was entered between the brackets.
Just preview it before you post it to make sure it linked correctly.

Ah, that makes more sense. I do not know if I would call it the worst game, but it was definitely not nearly as good as the first Alundra. Did you like the original Alundra game?

« on: June 12, 2008, 03:49:58 pm »Grandia II would be up on that awful list for me...
What did you not like about Grandia II? I have not played through very much of it yet, but some of my die hard Grandia fans say that II was the best one.
As for myself, probably the worst game I ever played was Unlimited Saga. I could deal with the static nature of the towns and such, I am used to that in many of the RPG and Simulation games, and the voice acting was actually decent, but the approach to moving around dungeons was very boring, and the fact that you could not run from battles made it extremely difficult. I remember dying at a scripted battle not far into the game and was never able to get passed it because of the characters they gave me to use. I went to trade it in and it was worth next to nothing (and this was the next day). The guy working the counter said he could have told me how bad of a game it was if he had been there when I bought it.

« on: June 11, 2008, 03:04:08 am »
FaustWolf, remember that law also applies to your morals and code of honor and not just following the laws of a government. In the game a Monk is considered a lawful character because of the dedication and discipline it takes, but this is all internal and self inflicted, having nothing to do with following the laws of another man.
As for myself, I generally fall into the Lawful Neutral category. I have a strong code of ethics that I work hard to uphold, and I generally look at everything involving a situation before I take action, generally dealing with facts and not emotion.
However, when I play many RPGs I have a tendency to play a Neutral Good character, someone who helps others as much as they can without regard to following or breaking rules. I wonder why that is.
Kebrel, nice visual interpretation.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: The Chrono Feel -- What does it mean to you?
« on: June 10, 2008, 11:15:59 pm »
No problem Boo. I just spewed several conjoined thoughts in the hopes of getting across what I meant. Sometimes I have trouble putting words to more abstract things such as feelings and emotions. I am very glad that it was meaningful to others.
