And I think I now understand the crossover suggestion. With that idea, a submission might be a picture of some time machines together (the Epoch, the Doctor Who TARDIS, the Bill and Ted Phone Both, and the Back to the Future DeLorean, for example), right? So the point wouldn't be to celebrate a crossover that already happened (example: Lucca appearing in Xenogears), but to create our own crossover? That makes more sense.

Now that I understand the original idea, I think the two ideas could be combined. We just need a carefully vague title like "The Influence of the Chrono Series" or "Chrono Allies", but with more thought put into it because that was top of the head.

Just to clarify, is this a suggestion for specifically a theme about Chrono spiritual successors, or including those with the time travel crossover idea?

To tell you the truth I don't know what you mean by "time travel crossover". To my understanding a crossover is when two franchises meet so that phrase doesn't really click for me here.

But the games listed by Boo are all spiritual successors to the Chrono series, and feature time travel (there are others he didn't list that don't). I can get behind that, but to be more inclusive and possibly get more participation, I'd add on that it doesn't have to be an existing game, participants could come up with their own spiritual sequel in the form of a story, music, art, their own game, etc.

That's my suggestion.

Nice to meet you too, PrincessNadia78! Yeah, Trigger has been my favorite since it came out, and everything else seems to fall short. But things that remind me of it still draw me in all the time anyway. I assume that's a feeling most of us share. Unless they're more of a Chrono Cross fan. Haha!

Howdy Kodokami!  Good to metaphorically see another old face.

+1 vote for Chrono spiritual successors, whether it's an existing real one or an original one a participant might come up with.

Ooh this looks time consuming and fun!

:)

Honestly I visit from time to time then find myself wanting to respond to something only to realize it's years old when I'm seeing it. Glad I caught this one!

Been doing pretty good, fatherhood is really cool and not as terrifying as I thought it would be when I was in my 20s. Haha. Very rewarding, but my kid's smart which does scare me a little.

My job's stable, hours are flexible when I need and it pays the bills (though I'm definitely not getting rich anytime soon). Wife got laid off from the pandemic but ironically she's making more now from unemployment than she did at work. Luckily we're all healthy but we've mostly been inside for a few months except groceries at first (now we're doing delivery so basically not leaving at all).

Not a lot of free time but I've been trying to squeeze out progress on some creative endeavors. I got the nostalgic Chrono bug again, maybe I'll have stuff to share in the coming months. I see my Nu emoji have stood the test of time, that's pretty cool.

How's your family doing? How are things here?

He's the one making my item 8s into smileys? At least I have a name now...

I just made the smiley graphics out of Nu sprites. I didn't write the software that runs the forum and misinterprets your text. My role in this years-old problem is tiny.

I'm Mah-Gus all the way. Everyone I know in person (who knows what CT is) says it the same. I could care less if people say it differently. Same with Ayla, Marle

What bugs the hell out of me is the K sound that gets shoved into Schala's name. Ugh. And anything where Lucca is not "Luke, uh".

I pronounce Serge Surge. I don't have a problem with other pronunciations but I don't understand why people call him Sergio. That's not his name. IRL I have a friend named Jim. Not James. Jim. Says it on his birth certificate, license, etc. But people think they're clever and try to come up with nicknames and "James" inevitably gets thrown in there. He's never been James. Just like Serge has never been Sergio.

Chrono Shift RPGMaker Project / Re: Chrono Shift General Progress Thread
« on: August 30, 2019, 03:18:04 pm »
Hey everybody. Sorry I've been away and out of touch for so long. I feel like I owe some explanation. Basically life happened, but specifically, I graduated college, moved to a new town with my girlfriend, stayed for three years, got married, got laid off, was unemployed for almost a year and moved back to my original hometown, where I got a new job, and then my wife and I had a baby almost two years ago. Free time is a precious resource that I don't have much of, but I never stopped thinking about Chrono Shift.

From my perspective, a few things caused the project to stall for years, including my own lack of time. The two big things were plot filler and feature creep. Essentially I felt like the core of the story I wanted to tell had "shifted" too far, and the whole project seemed to become too big. Another issue was of course the change in engines. RPG Maker XP seemed to be a good choice at the time, but we did effectively have to throw away a lot of work to make that choice.

The last work I completed was a scaled back and revised version of the story and quite a lot of the dialogue for the first half of the game. I haven't shared the shorter game plot mostly because the team had somewhat fallen out of communication but I will do so and will see what else I can do to help keep the project alive and hopefully get it completed.

I don't want it to be dead, but we'll have to see what happens.

Kolt, I think you may have better luck if you show your talents and show that you're willing to put in the work. Do you have experience writing? Do you have samples? Are you willing, if no one else is, to soldier through until it's finished? Are you willing to learn how to use the software? The way you have been talking, saying you're not sure if you'll still have motivation in a mere month without other people to depend on, it doesn't inspire much faith. As someone who has been working on a fan game for YEARS, I recommend you check how deep the pool is before diving in.

Well, I don't think the Schala in the game was ever labeled a sorceress. Magical princess, sure. Sorceresses are more like witches, right? With cauldrons and wands and Hagrids.

A wand would be the simplest to sprite. A scepter would work too, like something royalty would have.
