According to current GameFAQs theory, Taban is the true antagonist of Chrono Trigger. Little do they know, it's actually Gaspar's snot bubble.

Question, then. What roles do Lavos and Queen Zeal fill? ;)

the other nostril, obviously!

Yeah, that was the sentiment towards the Reptite ending.
Isn't that still the sentiment towards the Reptite ending, or am I missing something?
Dinopolis maybe?

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / what's up with that snot bubble?
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:59:06 pm »
every time i've ever played ct, i've seen gaspar and that little bubble, which i had alway thought was a speech bubble that was silent, indicating he was sleeping. and correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought it popped when you talked to him, which i thought was him waking up.

as he's an old man stuck by himself with limitless time and seeming immortality, he's gonna take a lot of naps i guess. since third grade this explanation has made sense to me.

now i'm seeing that it's widely believed to be a snot bubble? gaspar was old, i didn't think he was that old.

so what's up with the bubble?

No on all connection between autism and Chrono Trigger.

well, what about Crono? he never speaks, he's not stupid as he does accomplish a world-saving task, and i'm not saying he is for sure, but if anybody in ct WAS autistic, i'm positive it wouldn't be Marle.

haha. i just noticed the year thing. pfft i'm burnt out apparently. i'm not even gonna edit it cause it's funny. thanks for feedback on the idea, to answer questions:

`the may or may not parts would be optional quests.

`the method of travel would be kind of a mix of opassa and end of time, like a temporal c shaped room with a few doors and each door leads to a dimension that needs to be fixed. so you can go back and forth and if you get stuck you can come back and stuff.

the thing with magus is that he's not just looking for his sister. that's a very thin veil over what he really wants. what he wants is oedipal. he wants to kill ozzie, because ozzie was his father figure. the reasoning behind this (why not his real father, dalton, or the gurus?) is ozzie is the one who robbed janus of his humanity. and with all the power that kid had, his hair got a deeper blue, his skin lost all pigment, his ears and teeth sharpened, and his eyes turned red. he became a monster. his sister represents morality to him. that was taken away when he was a child.

in short, he's not looking for schala at all. he's nostalgic and doesn't know it. he's looking for humanity, same as frog. that's why he'd find common ground, and i think i can show that with the two of them getting tossed into a mutual crisis, and being forced to see they're not so different bla blah.

`other possible side quests: save the gurus, save doan, fight dragon god

edit: updated first post.

the news: i have mixed a few songs together for the soundtrack/score but i really need help tying the plot together.

i'm torn between doing a closed frog/glenn game and a more expansive, altogether more confusing game, and i'm leaning toward the one character frog game, maybe adding magus as unlockable.

basically i'm thinking frog gets attacked in his home and is rescued by masa and mune, who fuse and are kidnapped, hence the stealing of the sword. then he gets a calling from the entity to fuse some dead dimensions together to create conditions where he could retain human form. in each of these dead dimensions is either flea, slash, ozzie, shadow glenn, and finally dalton, who posesses the chrono clutch, and has already kidnapped chrono and marle and attacked guardia.
he may or may not recruit magus from 2300, where magus is now a village chief, trying to balance reconstruction of society with the search for schala. he also may or may not save chrono and marle, and return them to guardia.

that's where it stands now, sprites, music, and an idea. everybody here keeps talking about c&d letters and all i'm asking is what other fans would like to see done plot and gameplay wise. does this sound playable or would you all like to see something different? please, give me input!

this sounds great! can you do wings across time with INTENSITY?
faster drums and power chords mostly, that'd do it.

or schala's theme? also with INTENSITY!  :D

First off, the Crono's dad thing was kindof a joke. Unless some really good way of bringing him in comes up, which is doubtful. ( it's dalton!! seriously, it's not.)

Secondly, the Frog to Glenn situation. What if Frog (futureGlenn) arrives just in time to jump in front of the spell to prevent pastGlenn from becoming futureGlenn? So he dies, or he thinks he's dying, and wakes up as Glenn?
I keep thinking it's such a big thing, you should have to do more to get Frog to change. Perhaps it's the first world you need to fuse, Frog doesn't change til you do it. I think he's going to need the Chrono Clutch to do it. Basically the Clutch is a watch stuck to the palm of the wearer that gives one "complete control of one's destiny". Like an Epoch iPod. Carry-on time/space/dimensional travel. So he goes to 1005AD to look for the Chrono Clutch and Dalton is in the castle. Dalton warps them out into the as of yet unnamed dead dimension, where the protagonists find their friends Crono and Marle trapped. Frog and Magus vs. Dalton and his Golem clones of Frog and Magus (like the Temporal Distortion Crono, Lucca, and Marle clones in the DS) leads to Dalton escaping, but not before trading swords with Frog (maybe the Chrono Clutch wearer gets Haste automatically). Dalton prefers charged Masamune made of Dreamstone to his own sword, the Einlanzer, made of Sunstone by Melchoir, and at this point almost a perfect visual copy of the Masamune. Then we find Magus has a few tricks of his own and has taken the Chrono Clutch from Dalton just before he leapt through a gate whilst in the deadzone area fighting. Frog and Magus get Crono and Marle out then leap into two gates. Chrono and Marle find Guardia destroyed, and stay to rebuild.
How's it sounding Darkman and Darius? Is this making sense and coming off as something you'd want to play?

Third, in case of cease and desist letters, I've been doing some drawings in a non Toriyama style and it still works. Chrono gets dreadlocks, Magus gets his prophet cloak and Frog looks badass with sharp teeth and no whisker things. Like a Teenage Mutant Chivalry Toad or something. So if needed I can change the names to Toad and Mage and Kro and Meryl if I need to, change the sprites up, and call it Time Clutch in the event that something happens

You can definitely help! First, never say never!

Second, just toss some ideas out or discuss anything up there thats interesting.

What if one of the worlds they visit is the RD timeline?

What if Crono's dad shows up?

What if you can play as Toma?

etc. what i typed is what i got for plot, so any kind of cohesion or plot points to add would be greatly appreciated! i'm actually a little hazy on some of the in game details of cross, so also if there are any tidbits or references we can make in there that i'm not covering would be good too.

I've tinkered with TF only ever so slightly. Changed a map, but it looked like a lot more than I could handle by myself. I'll look into it, but for now the battle and walking/running animations work beautifully in RPG Maker 2003. Most importantly, I'm really familiar with that program already and I'm trying to get this done rather quickly (ie. not four years from now). I had an idea to take a screenshot of each battle location and set that up as the battle background for that specific spot so you don't go anywhere during the battles, but that'd be a lot of extra work too.

But yeah, point me in the right direction for TF tutorials or help or anything to show me basic event editing and mapping and I'll try to get comfortable with it. I'd love for Chrono Clutch to be reasonably well done, and the material that's been coming from TF patches has been astounding so far.

Edit: Found some! Let's make some magic!

Kajar Laboratories / Chrono Clutch (frog to glenn) updated w art and script
« on: December 03, 2008, 04:16:37 pm »
So after thinking and thinking and thinking etc, I've figured out what I need to do. Create a game where Frog becomes Glenn. Inspiration struck after I played Prophet's Guile, and my idea was to create a super short fast game where you can achieve Frog's ultimate goal.

I made one in RPG Maker 2003, with the infamous Glenn sprites (I have no idea who actually made those but they're well circulated in the Compendium) and some metal versions of CT music. The coding, setup, and playable game all went by way too fast. So I started thinking again.

edit:
So I'm doing some sprite work, I've been collecting lots of music, and will probably write some to put in as well, and there's a story. This game is about closure. Sorta. It's called Chrono Clutch and the namesake is a device giving one power over time and space travel, like an ipod epoch edition.
Dalton has it.
You awaken from a nightmare as Frog, with Masa and Mune fused together trying to protect you in your sleep. Your cozy forest fortress is under attack from Dalton himself. He announces his intentions to take the fabled blade, and has already snuck up and impaled Masa and Mune. They don't die, they begin a sleep, from which they rise, tainted. They are absorbed into the blade, which reacts to Frog's Hero Medal and opens a large green gate. Dalton disappears, as do you. The fate of the Masamune is already written.
You awaken again to an earthbound villager similar to 12000B.C. The chief has requested to see you. You can exlplore at this point, and it seems to be a more advanced Dark Age, or like a fusion of the Earthbound and the Enlightened cultures. The Entity speaks to you when you get to the recovery spring. This is the dimension where Lavos never was. Your world had been destroyed. This other world must be saved.
You refuse. If Leene is dead, there is nothing to live for. The Entity gives you the Einlanzer, from the fountain in the spring. She tells you to leave it in sun keep, as it was struck from Sunstone, as the Masamune was Dreamstone, it need only be charged to liken its power to the Demon-Sword.
You take it hesitantly, and enter town. Janus Zeal is the chief of the village, and he can fly. You may add him to your team leading you on a quest to save the dimensionally imprisoned Chrono and Marle from the Exoverse, or not. You may choose instead to find the missing Gaspar and the Doors of Dimensions but either way, there will be more surprises, a few original characters, some old flavor.
And Frog will become Glenn again. Then you can begin again. Seriously, though that won't be the end. Promise.

I'll post my character designs soon as I got em all scanned or photographed. Maybe a few sprites too.

Let me know what you think of the idea and if you have any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks!

what's the general opinion of using other people's music in a fan made game? would that be frowned upon? for example, i'm not working on a game, but if i was i'd be trying to get it done quickly as possible. we're talking some kind of rpg maker where you can use mp3s and wavs; not temporal flux. this hypothetical game would be nonprofit, downloadable but unsellable. we're talking pre-existing sprites, backgrounds, etc. but new story. i could just use chrono trigger music but maybe i'd really like to use some of the covers such as the mega driver frog theme, something from the ct mixtape, and perhaps some of the higher quality recordings from ctosv as well. since all the music and everything from the game is copyright square enix anyway, would i really need permission from anyone to use the music in that situation? or would i just need to give credit to those who recorded (and in some case rearranged) said music?

very sorry if this belongs somewhere else. been playing chrono trigger since i was a wee lad and i've been loving this site but haven't had much posting experience. i would genuinely like to know what people here think about it though.

Simple. Make a real effort to ask the author if you can use it, and respect their say.

Just because it's a derived work done without permission doesn't whitewash you of the courtesy of asking permission. It's not like the derived work's author is a giant corporation like Square Enix or a difficult-to-reach foreign composer that you can't even communicate with properly.

Now if you can't get a hold of the author, and there's nothing to imply they don't want you using it, then it might not matter so much if you decide to just use it anyway. Then if they ever come to you asking for you to remove their work, you can remove it.

Of course, by the books it's all illegal, but that's going by broken copyright laws that interfere with the advancement of culture and knowledge more than help anything. It's not even profitable for corporations to completely enforce their copyrights, so they a lot of times they don't even try.

thanks for the reply! yeah i figured the copyright situation (legal permission, etc) would be a bit overcomplicated, so i'm not even worried about it being legal. i'm just thinking if someone were to release a finished game they'd been working on secretly without announcing anything. say said game is really fun, with a great story, but reused graphics and other people's music. would the community accept with open arms or condemn it like it's evil?
