General Discussion / Re: Chrono Cross Fan Remake?

The best were Prophet's Guile and Crimson Echoes. To my understanding, the former was completed for realsies, while the later got a C&D when it was at somewhere like 98% (essentially, everything but a little bug testing). Alas, both games were removed because of the aforementioned crackdown by Square Enix. Which is a shame, really, because those games would have helped renew interest in Chrono Trigger, and would have in turn improved sales of CT DS. Alas, it seems that the business model of large organizations is "Hulk smash!"

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if in some dark corner of the interwebs you could still find copies of those two games.

Well, that and the fact that fan projects of that sort have a tendency to get C&D letters from Square Enix.

Wait, that's what Baron Rudolph Rednose said?! I love it! I totally missed that. Thank you so much

Things might have changed, but it's been confirmed that John Hurts the "true" 9th doctor. But it's also been stated that the 11th (and 10th) aren't supposed to recognize him, yet at the end of the Name of the Doctor, it seems very clear that the 11th is very familiar with him indeed, so who knows what's been changed. And its all because the 9th doctor didn't want to return (I understand that Eccelson has had a hard time of it, but I am really sad we wont get to seem him again).

Although, maybe I missed it, but I don't think the 8th doctor appeared when the past incarnations were running about. Neither was 10, but we know that Tennants coming back. So that might hint that Hurt IS the 8ths.

We know that River Song dies. We know that she's regenerated at least twice. Unless we assume she died a lot of times off screen, that means she should have several regenerations left (assuming she gets the Time Lord 13). We know that regeneration energy can be passed between individuals (River to the 11th, to heal him from the poison she gave him, and then from the 11th to River to heal her after she broke her wrist), as well as to objects (10th to his amputated hand), and that new regenerations can be given to a time lord to use (the Master). So, all told, there's only one man who could be so evil as to make the issue of limited regenerations worrisome.

And that man is Moffet! He's killed people you love. Stop him, before he strikes again!

It's up! It's up! IT'S UP!

Hey, congratulations, Tush! Definitely made me smile at the end (that's my kind of humor). My only recommendation would be to either add subtitles or try to make Baron von Rednose speak a little more clearly: I had a hard time figuring out what was going on at the start. Don't trust youtube's auto subtitle abilities. They're a travesty.

If Adam Mitchell counts as a companion (and he does), Strax, Vastra, and Jenny totally count. Same with Sally Sparrow.

As for too campy... I'm not sure how to react, given that Doctor Who is almost by definition too campy.

So, who else here thinks that Miss Frizzle is a Time Lord?

Well, she's River Song, so, yes? I mean, I'm guessing that River gets to count as a time lord, at least as much as the Doctor's Daughter.

The show has always been a little vague on what the limitations of a regeneration was. It was previously indicated that a Time Lord regenerates into the same species as it nearest at the time. Except we've never seen a non-human looking Time Lord (unless you count Omega, but he lived in an Anti-Universe). Then again, it's thought that 9 had a different accent from the rest because he was near a northerner when he regenerated into that form. The same has been suggested for 8 (who was half human, you know).

However, I expect Doctor Who needs to have a lot more female writers before we'll ever see a female Doctor.

As for the next Doctor, I suppose that depends on how long Smith sticks around, and how quintessential the 11th doctor becomes. 5 was chosen specifically to contrast 4, both in appearance and also in the actor's reputation (5 was already well known and liked, so he could better resist the pressure to be like 4). Given that 11 reigns as the series is becoming widespread, I could see that if he sticks around for much longer, we'll need something else like that.

As a side note, my vote for the Doctor's name is "Run."

First, to reitterate, I am a horrible, horrible, person for critiquing that letter.

Second, with that established, the letter does warm the cockles of the heart, but it doesn't make a compelling argument. Which, brings us back to the first point. Namely, that I'm a horrible person for considering the letter on that level.

I can't help but critique their argument. I am a horrible, horrible person. Probably the kind that frowns at puppies for playing incorrectly.

That's getting borderline too campy for me. Really, we're supposed to imagine that the Doctor's name is the most important secret in the universe, and has been for all time, even before he was born?

Luckily, it's almost certain they wont give us his "name." At least, not in a direct way. I could see them saying that he's name is "Hope" or something metaphysical like that. Although, this is Moffet. He's good at being mean. I could see that extending to giving us the Doctor's Realsies name. Which would be lame.

While it might be pointless academic dithering for those who are dead and suffering from that 11-year old Afghanistan bombing, the two events aren't comparable. "Terrorist attacks" specifically are targeted at civilians and at eroding a people's sense of peace and safety. The Boston bombing seems to fit that bill, while the Afghanistan one you noted, Tush, doesn't. Certainly the civilians might think that the American leaders are terrorists, but they would be wrong.

Attrition is not terrorism. Attrition is still wrong and should be avoided, but its a different problem with different solutions. Conflating the two serves no purpose.

... They will lose, but they will fight (and probably level Seoul in the process).

I'm dubious that they'd level Seoul. It serves no military goal, and they'd have to get through a lot of military leaders aware of this in order to enact the plan. Rats abandon a sinking ship: if a military leader follows through on that order, they either have to fight to the death, or they'll have an appointment with Nuremberg. The only way for them to win is to not play the game. That is, refuse orders to completely level Seoul.

A war with North Korea is unlikely as it doesn't serve China's purposes at present (indeed, it would hurt China's current economic growth). Without the support of China, and without a significant number of southern sympathizers, North Korea would be in a tight spot. I doubt that the U.S. or South Korea could invade or take over North Korea (any attempt would probably bring a reluctant China into the conflict), but N. Korean has few to no advantages for pressing a full invasion into S Korea itself. They might be able to hit some targets in South Korea, but retribution will be swift, and ultimately North Korea has no hope of gaining a meaningful goal. That puts them in a bad political position. Indeed, starting the war back up would give Western powers a pretense for taking out several desirable targets.
