Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Masato Kato: The Artist Formerly Known as..."Runmal"??
« on: March 18, 2008, 12:36:41 pm »
Aeris was impaled in FFVII. Masato Kato was on script writing.
Irene Lew was impaled in Ninja Gaiden II. Kato was involved in scenario writing.
Kid is stabbed in Chrono Cross. You-know-who thought that one up.
This is getting freaky. Does Kato have a thing for watching people get stabbed?
Even if he's not responsible for writing all those impalments he's involved with so many games that have them; thats got to say something. Man, I really don't want to see his porn collection.
What I'm really angry about is the removal of Irene Lew from the Ninja Gaiden universe with the new games. She was smart, of realistic proportions, a CIA agent, and could hold her own except that one time she got stabbed. But considering she (maybe) had her back turned to the bad guy at the time, and that the bad guy was a demon from Hell, it's understandable. Anyway, Team Ninja decided to give Irene the boot and replaced her with Rachel, who is all leather and boobs. When I think back to the first time I saw Irene come out of nowhere and kick ass Rambo-style in Ninja Gaiden III, I am saddened by the turn videogames have taken with regard to the objectification of women. Characters like Irene and Chun-Li are partially responsible for turning me into a feminist, but once Lara Croft emerged on the videogame scene, things largely went downhill. There are numerous exceptions of course.
I like leather and boobs (especially boobs)...but seriously I agree that the complete removal of Irene from NG was a bad move. Although AFAIK there is still room for her character to return. No reason they can't have both Irene and Rachel in the game.
Why's Vader's saber (that's fun to say!) that color in that pic? Am I remembering it wrong or was it not red then?
It's a PLOT HOLE! Where was Yuji Horii when Star Wars was made? I tell ya...
There's no "Plot Hole," see Vader was just borrowing another lightsaber while his was in the shop...yeah that's it...borrowing it from Chuck Norris...because Obi-Won is too badass to be downed by any other lightsaber....yeah thats the ticket.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Chrono Sinners
« on: December 12, 2007, 07:52:27 pm »Just because you have the Virtue that doesn't mean you're overcompensating for the Vice. She was a little girl who had no business knowing how to stop the machine. Her not knowing doesn't make her Vice Sloth. If anything, she's compensating for Wrath because she used to hate machines. Or, like I suggested, she's Greedy for knowledge.
And I don't know about Frog having all that Humility or Pride...He shows more Wrath & Forgiveness than anything else.
With Frog and Lucca their characters were reacting to self perceived sin. I agree they weren't actually there, but because the characters thought they were their lives were shaped accordingly. While as an outsider we can see that Lucca was just a little girl that couldn't help her mother, or that Glenn could not defeat Magus at the time it does not mean that the character's themselves would feel the same way.
Also if you look at the way the event of saving Lara was set up you can see it was a timed event: if Lucca is quick enough to discover the way to shut off the machine she saves her mother, if not then history continues on.
As for Frog, he was so ashamed at his inability to protect Cyrus that his pride as a knight was damaged, and it was futher damaged by him thinking it was his fault that Leene got captured by Yakra. It was a foolish sense of pride that caused his emotional distress twice over, however after talking with Cyrus' ghost he was able to come to terms with his true stenghts and true limits and he was resolved anew. Hence the Granleon/Masamune grew more powerful in his hands.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: wow...flea is hot

@Gamer8585: Poison, from Final Fight? Wikipedia seems to have an entry on...it? BUT -- in that case, the wiki suggests that Poison might in fact have been female, but Capcom stated there were no male enemies in the game so as to avoid a spat over violence against women. Little did the Capcom rep who said that know, he only created another controversy...
Quote from: From EGM #224 p.68
Is Final Fight's pink-haired cutie (and SF3: 2nd Impact costar) Poison actually a dude? "Let's set the record straight: In North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual,' [Street Fighter 4 Producer Yoshinori] Ono reveals. "But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away in order to look like a girl."
So apparently it (sorta) depends on weather she's in Japan or the US.
And now you know. And Knowing is half the battle!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to have a piece of brimstone shoved up my ass....

Nah, that would be Poison to the Chrono series....
(for all those that got the joke...yes, you're going to Hell).

« on: December 11, 2007, 11:04:33 pm »Sloth for Lucca? No, that doesn't make sense. She doesn't feel like she's too slow, but not smart enough. That's why she began her study of machines. For the knowledge to prevent future disasters. Besides, she's one of the more diligent of the party (always hanging around Crono even though she knows it's not going anywhere) by fixing Robo all the time and crap. lol
Exactly. She's overcompensating for Sloth with Diligence. Just like Frog overcompensates for Pride with Humility.

Thought provoking...Lets see what I can do:
Lust: Ayla. Most people understandably want to put her with Gluttony, but she's the only one in the whole game that talks about sex. She makes references to having babies, and she even comes on to Chrono as well as Marle and Lucca. Not to mention she's dressed the skimpiest of all.
Gluttony: Crono. He eats the most of anyone in the game, and he even gets a really fancy food platter named after him.
Greed: Robo. Despite being a Robot not subject to needs and desires as we know them, Robo did want one thing above all: a soul. He tried to make friends with everyone even when he knew they were bad (The R series), he tried to foster love with another Robot (Atropos), he devoted himself to help nature (Fiona sidequest), and he even gave up his existence to help constrain FATE. These events, while noble, were all in reaction to his futile desire for a true human soul. (OK, its a stretch, but I fit everyone else first and I needed one more for Greed).
Sloth: Lucca. Her whole penchant for creating machines was due to her feeling she was too slow to help her mother. She was constantly reacting to this sin in her life by being over active and quite prolific in creation.
Wrath: Magus. The very force driving his life was his hatred of Lavos and desire for revenge. He sold his soul for the chance for vengeance.
Envy: Marle. As a princess she wasn't able to leave the castle or make friends on her own. She undoubtedly was jealous of the people outside the castle that could roam the countryside and go on adventures.
Pride: Frog. Its a fault that he recognizes even in himself, it's what lead him to blame himself for failing Cyrus (he thought he could have actually beaten Magus and saved Cyrus). And he prides himself on his sword skills more then anyone else in the game. Most of the game is him reacting to this self perceived sin.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Want a new Chrono game?
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:11:45 pm »I heard about that, too. It was actually just a contest Nintendo of Japan opened up. They took multiple non-Nintendo owned game characters (MegaMan, Solid Snake, Crash Bandicoot and the like) and asked fans who they'd like to see in Brawl. Guess Crono was on that list, but we all know who won
What a pity. I can just imagine Crono in there. He'd own with his cyclone (I think they would put that in) and very probably his Lightning magic.
Personally, I think they would have had Crono play too much like Link, with only a couple of unique flourishes for fan service (The temptation would be there). Well I would have still played it and pretended like it was Chrono 3 regardless.
I wish there was a way to get SE moving on a 3rd Chrono game. Its kinda hard to show support for the franchise if they don't put out any material to buy. Even if its not a game, they could license merchandise (T-Shirts, Action Figures, Sound Tracks, Costumes, Props, etc.) they could pimp out CT/CC characters for other franchises: Chrono in Dragon Quest, Frog in Zelda, Lucca in Resident Evil, Ayla in DDR, Magus in Legacy of Kain, Marle in Mario, Serge in Suikoden, Nikki in Guitar Hero, Kid in Tomb Raider...C'mon people this stuff writes itself.
Although if they do make Chrono 3 and it includes a new cast and unconnected story, ala Cross, I would hope there would be a few returning characters (ie. Crono, Serge, Magus, Schala (Sara)/Kid etc.) playable or at least few side quests to flesh out what happened to them. I would have soooo loved if they kept Magus in CC...couldn't they have axed 10-20 other characters instead of Magus? He's worth at least that many!
BTW: OOT > ALTTP. ALTTP is one of my favorite game (I wore out the SNES cart), but I gotta say OOT is a superior game overall.

Go Retroware TV! They sound like real CT fans. I can't wait for part 3.
"A Time for... " nice drawing. It made me laugh, because that is soooooo the way it would happen: Queen Zeal gloating, Dalton wasted on Tryptophan, Harle being a Schitzo, and Lynx sitting back with his drink and (probably) thinking, "Soon I shall kill them all..."

Crono would so own Terminator (the EMP from his Thunder spells alone would be enough):
*Cue battle music*
*Crono casts Shining*
*Terminator looses 2643 HP*
*Terminator is Shocked/Defense Down*
*Terminator uses Shotgun*
*Crono looses 254 HP*
*Crono casts Shining*
*Terminator looses 3526 HP*
*1500 XP gained, 1200 G gained, Shotgun recived, HK armor received, A Chance for Humanity received*

« on: October 12, 2007, 08:48:17 pm »The eighth character was gonna be Gaspar though, wasn't it?
There are tons of theories about who the speculated 8th character would have been including: the 3 Gurus, Vinnigar, Mayonay, Soysaw, Tarta, Kino, Atropos, Cryus, Dalton, Queen Zeal, King Zeal, and Sara. Basically all of the NPCs have been rumored to be the 8th character.
There is also a good (and much more likely) possibility that it would have been an original character that would be encountered at the deleted "Singing Mountain" area.

We don't know whether or not Crono died. We don't even know if he was present at the fall of Gaurdia.

Personally I think it would have been funny to find out that Crono was hiding in discuies to avoid the Porre army that wanted him dead, but really he looks way to old, and aside from the bandanna not all that much like Crono
No Crono would have been White in CC. Yellow was inanimate earth in CC (rock, sand, etc), and since Crono's element was Heaven/Sky (Lightning) White would be the best fit for Crono.
Also the Sage is white innate. If he would be Crono wouldn't he be yellow innate.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Recruit Schala
« on: October 11, 2007, 09:01:29 pm »
There is no spoo...err...8th character, and no secret spells (except for the triple techs that you need stones for). Believe me if there were I would know about it (gone though the game many times during the last 12 years); every video or screen shot to the contrary is either doctored or the products of a cheat. Example I saw a really kick ass video of Magus fighting Lavos solo on youtube, but the video maker freely admitted that he used PAR to get a solo character.
During my earlier days I was really hoping I would be able to recruit a great melee fighter like Cyrus, or an awesome spell caster like Sara (Schala), but alas it was not to be.
Plus like you said if you could recruit Sara (Schala) it would really mess up the plot of Chrono Cross. So if the dev team dosen't know it is possible to do it, it probably isn't.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Next Theme
« on: October 11, 2007, 08:45:28 pm »
I think the next theme may be reality modification. The plot context will probably involve the concept of "dreams." The planet's dream vs. Lavos' dream. The two dreams conflict, and Lavos tries to subjugate the planet to its will in a last ditch effort to impose its spirt on the planet (kinda like a cosmic demonic possession). So the planet must reach out to a team of plucky hero's to enter into its dream to stop the Lavos nightmare (it can't be Crono and the gang because this would all happen during the final fight with Lavos).
Personally I think this would make a great Wii game, with being able to change your environment in all different ways, and since dreams can take on whatever aspects are necessary, they can go to different times or dimensions. Even old locations can be revisited: Ioka village, El Nido, Zeal, etc. and even the old cast can make an appearnce as personification of the planets concisenesses (I think thats what the Crono, Marle, Lucca children were in Chrono Cross). Not to mention an actual appearance of Gran (Masa), Leon (Mune), and Doreen. Though the Planet's dream all outstanding questions can be answered, plus it would make an awesome rounding out of the Chrono series.
