Easy! Add a little Kid to her personality and she can be plenty angry at Magus.
Honestly I hate hate hate this ending for how it shoehorns in an explanation for a gimmick, but another thing to consider...
Is it possible then that Schalavos influenced Magus to give in to despair and throw away/FEED IT his memories and goals, even more than just by pushing him away?

Earlier you said Riddel and Esmeld didn't have a romantic relationship, merely that she and Viper were kind to him. But also in those lines:

Originally Magus wasn't completely obsessed with Schala though. His main goal was beating Lavos, and he "sacrificed" Schala to get the chance and he failed at it. That's why in RD he tells Serge not to make the same mistake he did, to protect Kid instead of fighting Lynx.
But after CT:DS he just became another sister-obsessed anime guy wah wah wah I complain about this all the time

Well, it was revealed at the end of RD that Viper Manor was built on intact Zeal ruins, so...
Mostly I just think somewhere along development, Kato forgot that Dalton was a comic-relief villain, or read too many "DALTON IS AN EFFECTIVE RAPIST!" fanfics.
(Oh yeah, utunnels, do Japanese fans ever mistake or theorize Vera as Marle-in-disguise? I'm curious since it's probably just the way she's written in English that gives that vibe)

In the Demiforce translation she says it was kept in a Northern Kingdom for hundreds of years until it fell... Is it possible they mixed up Guardia and Zeal?

I was curious, does Guardia fall in both dimensions in CC? Supposedly Dalton knew about the Elements and used those, along with knowledge of advanced technology and general scheming.
