Crimson Echoes Beta Testing / maggiekarp's play through thread
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:53:00 pm »
Here are my notes so far!

CRIMSO NACHOES NOTES

- In debug room, cannot run down if running to the left. Ergo, cannot move diagonally easilly. Haven't tried elsewhere yet.
- Marle's line about the Moon being wonderful made me laugh, but probably not in the way you intended.
- "Don't sleep in tomorrow! I..." I what? Maybe there should be a pause or something, I dunno.
- I think it's funny that Marle has to bend over to kiss Crono's face. The dude is hella short. I don't think you can fix this.
- Didn't Bandeau live in the past? Should be told where Elisa is.
- I really want to know what that soldier says. I hope it's good news on the war front :>
- Lemonade stand HP/MP restore chirp sounds off too early.
- If Guardia has to train their soldiers at the park I can see why they would lose the war :(
- Why is the Judge giving joints (pickles) to people in the park :(
- Dalton attacked me in Leen Square (where Gato lives), said "TEMPORARILLY DISABLED", killed me, then flickered out of glitchy existance. I then had to move around as Crono's corpse. I had not saved before this, but thankfully I was normal when I left the room.
- Hero statue sprites at Leene Square are ugly to an offensive degree. If you want, I can fix these for you. Please. Lucca's disfigured face will haunt me to my dying days.
- Are Lucca's Telepods fused to the ground? No one's used them since, why are they there?
- Back room in cathedral should use different floor tiles
- Why has the kitchen turned into a meeting room, where are they getting food, you know if the soldiers weren't well-fed in 600 AD they would have lost- Ohhhh I see what's going on here
- I dislike that Poore's fanfare is the beginning drum riff for Ayla's theme repeated twice fast. It irks me.
- Ingrus is a dumb name :(
- Lucca's accidental gate graphics are ugly.
- Gang arriving at Belthesar's pad scene flickers before transition, music re-start is jarring
- Magus's "...Soon, Alfador." line is very disconcerting. I kinda like it.
- Magus tells Dalton he'll regret it twice, but I don't think that convinced him at all :(
- Enemies ARE too hard, or characters are too depowered. Magus should not die against a Beast.
- Beast should not jump over hills.
- Okay Magus dying like a bitch was funny the first five times but don't you want people to see the rest of this game?
- Magic guard doesn't work. Died again. Hate game.
- Won't stop dying. Used several Tonics for one battle. Got attacked twice while waiting for turn. Died again.
- Turned off game.

Submissions / Chrono Motivationals
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:21:31 am »
What happened to the "lolchrono" thread? Since it was moved here I guess something like this goes here... Anyway, just randomly decided to make these, but I kinda want to see what other folks come up with, too. If you want to make some of your own the generator's here.

Calling this thread this, but I do have a specific passage in mind to start us off.

In the Catacombs scene (quoted below) when Magil talks about mental walls, is he referring solely to Kid/Schala, or could he also be talking from personal experience?

It's safe to assume he's talking about Schala when you consider that the Frozen Flame Schala Explanation (also quoted below) matches the situation he described almost exactly, but that would also mean he knew exactly what Schala went through prior to being de-aged. He uses Kid as a specific example, though, so he could just be speaking of her and not Schala.

I wonder if he could have a similiar view on what happened to himself in his childhood. I know he's meant to be mysterious and he keeps to himself at all times, but if he does relate to this on more than a "it happened to my sis" level, and actually kind of admits to it, it could tell us a lot about Magus's history and character on the whole. He seems a bit too emotionally effected by the whole thing for it to just be Kid, and since Serge himself mentions that Magil resembled Kid, it seems to suggest a bigger link...

I could go on and on just about this part, how it relates to the other games and the character of Kid as well, but I think it's best to just ask for some thoughts for now.

Quote from: Catacombs Scene
I peer around the corner into the cell. In this dim, damp space, an old man
sits in solitude, quietly mumbling to himself.
"Hey, Mister..."
"Everyone.. and it was all because of me. Every last one of the Dragoons...
Miss Riddel... even the General...! Forgive me... please..."
Ignoring us, the old man continues to mutter, staring at the floor as he
rocks back and forth.
"Hey, can ya hear me?" Kid says, shaking the bars a little.
"He will not hear a thing. He has constructed a wall around himself," Magil
says.
"What do you mean?" I ask Magil.
"A wall, used for shielding one's mind from reality. After being exposed to
horrific events, tremendous amounts of pain and guilt has this effect on a
person. He has made a safe world inside his own mind, where he retreats
into. From there, he refuses to acknowledge anything he does not want to
admit."
I notice that talking about this has given Magil a sort of sad, lost look in
his face. Noticing my glance, he quickly turns away from me.
Strange... Magil somehow reminded me of Kid just then.
When Magil turns back, his usual blank expression has returned.
"Does this make sense to you, Serge?" Magil asks.

*"Yeah, it does..."
**"Maybe if you gave me an easier explanation..."

*Magil continues, looking at Kid and me. "We rarely see the walls we're
trapped within. However, given time, some can come to understand and
possibly even break free of these shortcomings... I... ..."
I wait for Magil to finish, but he doesn't end up saying anything. I'd ask,
but... oh well.
The mind... Revealing itself to itself...

**"Very well," Magil says, taking me aside. "For example, there was probably a
time when Kid was very different than who she is now. She couldn't have been
a thief her whole life, correct?"
Hearing this, I look over to Kid. Somehow she looks different than I've ever
seen her...
"Kid convinced herself to be a thief. However, on the inside, she's not as
rough as you think."
"I see... so in other words, there's a normal man trapped somewhere inside
all that mumbling."
"Aw, come on, enough with all this jibber jabber!"
"But Kid, we were just saying..."
Thwap!
I stare at Kid, rubbing the red mark left on my cheek.

Quote from: Frozen Flame
Long ago, in a far off kingdom, lived a girl. Because of her power, the kingdom
had come to an end, crumbling under its own weight. Many became engulfed in the
temporal vortex that was created, never to be heard from again...
...But not the girl. She lived on, enduring a much sadder fate... Running from
her past and fearing her future, she wanted nothing more than to be swallowed
up in the surging waves of the vortex of time...
Hating what she'd done, refusing what she'd said or heard, to simply continue
living was her curse. But the stone, It had other plans for her...Turning back
the hands of her clock, scattering her memories, she was granted another
chance. Since the precious stone was in her possession, she carried with her
all its will and power. And so, she was born into this era, returning to
reality as a mere infant...

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Chrono Sinners
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:56:14 am »
I saw a topic like this on the Gamefaqs forums. I didn't like the main response, but the idea intrigued me. Match each of the seven PCs of Chrono Trigger with one of the seven deadly sins! Please explain your answer.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Bawdy or Gay Jokes
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:11:00 am »
I was curious if there were any dirty or gay jokes in Cross. They popped up occasionally in CT's retranslation, and more than once in RD (cross-dressing sunflower scenario), but I can't remember any from my playthrough of CC.

Perhaps it was the difference in humor that cast CC away from the other games?

(and yes I was skimming the RD script when I thought of this)

History, Locations, and Artifacts / Einlanzer and the Melchior Triplets
« on: October 19, 2007, 05:52:24 pm »
I know that in CC, the Einlanzer was made by Dragonians, but it's still referred to as the Masamune's "brother" and in RD, it was most likely made by the Gurus. I'm wondering, did the Einlanzer have sentience like the other objects Melchior made?

Another thing bothering me, but I dunno if it should go in here or the Character discussion... In CT, wasn't Doreen the spirit of Schala's pendant? Here's a quote from the Retranslation...

Quote
Gran: The red stone handed down from long ago......
From that stone, a pendant and the Demonic
   Vessel were made......
   And a knife was made.

We are Bosch's hopes, imbued into the
   knife......

Although this makes it seem like Doreen is with the Mammon Machine, as well...

I also need a memory refresher, where did Doreen come from when you get the Mastermune in CC? The game scripts just make it look like she was hanging around, and it's been a while since I played the game...

tl;dr:
1) Is the Einlanzer sentient?
2) Is Doreen the spirit of Schala's pendant?
3) Was Doreen in Serge's pocket the whole time in CC, or did I miss something?

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Radical Dreamers script query
« on: September 12, 2007, 01:43:46 am »
I was looking through the script of Radical Dreamers and noticed a few bits that I never got in the game before... Can someone confirm if these lines happen in the game, or if they're just extra dialogue?

Quote
"Heh, heh, heh... just as I suspected. I had a feeling you would come," the
old woman cackles, quivering.
...?
Kid and I glance at one another, wonder if she's just playing with us, or
not...
"What're ya talkin' about?"
"Oh, it's already been four or five years, I would gather. Master Lynx had
sent for a certain young lady... a very special young lady, you might say."
"This woman, owner of powerful mental and magical abilities, was the object
of Master Lynx's attention for quite some time..."
Magil turns his head away, hastily interrupting the old lady's speech.
"Quiet!" he barks.
"Ah, I apologize. How easily I forget the situation between you two..."
"Which two? Who are you talking about?"
"Oh, I won't bore you with details, young man..."
"But..."
"Ah, you seem to have a bit of a scrape, there. Won't you let me have a look
at it?"

Curious because, well... This sort of makes Magus/Lucca CANON.

Special Event Polling / Further Character Discussion
« on: September 07, 2007, 06:26:26 pm »
Just in case you missed a poll or weren't able to add anything to an opinion because of a closed poll, this thread's for you!

I'll add some unpopular opinions in a while, but for now, I'd like some other folks to post!

Chrono Compendium Discussion / Possible OLRemix Links?
« on: August 25, 2007, 02:53:44 am »
I was browsing through the Music section of the Encyclopedia here, and I started thinking that we ought to link to the remixes on Overlooked Remix as well as VGMix and OCRemix.

Most if not all of the songs are silly and some are purposefully bad, but they appeal to certain tastes and a lot of them are really great. Since I think I can edit the entries already, I'm just curious if I can or should add links to these songs.

Submissions / ARTINGS
« on: August 18, 2007, 05:21:50 pm »
Bored, decided to post some of my better (read: less perverted) CT fanarts here for possible approval :o

Old Marle sketch with a different outfit
ChibiMagus wallpaper with one of my favorite sayings found on the Internets
I'm not 100% pleased with this one, but it's kinda cute.
My greatest shame, I am in fact a MARGUS SHIPPER

I've also got a ton of silly drawings and comics all over my photobucket. A great many (it might even be safe to say MOST)are NSFW, though, and have little to do with CT after a while besides character rape D:

I'm working on a story that I'd like to do in webcomic form at the moment, though. It'll have a little bit more to do with the Chronoverse than my silly perv comics, but even though I vowed to not make any NEW characters, I'm gonna take a ton of creative license with certain designs and characterization. I'll try not to hit it too far off the mark... but what is a Chrono fanwork without a bit of personal interpretation and crackpot theories?

Kajar Laboratories / Marle's Theme
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:29:58 am »
So uh, I was wondering if there are any remixes of Marle's theme out there ("To Good Friends" or "Crono and Marle ~ Far Off Promise" to be exact). I realize there's much better songs out there that should be remixed (*cough*TyranoLair*cough*) but I can't seem to find a version of this anywhere. I know there's a big list of remixes on the Music section, but it doesn't say which song is remixed and I don't feel like going through every one.

Any help?

Chrono Compendium Discussion / Encyclopedia needs Editing
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:10:13 am »
Not to diss whoever's in charge of the final entries in the Encyclopedia, but every now and again I find errors that really get to me. A typo here or there and an awkward phrase are okay, but sometimes it feels like the articles were written by an 8-year-old Thai boy.

Quote from: CC Characters- Lisa
Lisa is the son of Funguy and a rival to Leena concerning dates.

Now I'm okay with a lot of the...uh, fan interpretation that goes into these things sometimes... but a gender swap for a totally unambiguous character?

I know I'm new to this forum, but I've been browsing the site for quite some time. It provides me with tons of information and images I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else on the web, so it pains me to see these things compiled so unprofessionally.

I don't blame anyone for these errors- everyone needs an editor, sometimes, especially with the workload involved with this site. With the staggering amount of Chrono-stuff on this site I'd be surprised if there weren't so many errors... but as quoted above, sometimes it's just ridiculous.

I don't want to say "Hey, give me the editing job, guys!", so I'll just ask y'all to consider getting an editor or two sometime soon.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Fabulous Mystic Style
« on: June 11, 2007, 11:38:02 pm »
Most fans can agree that between the naked man-god in Magus's bedroom, the "all it's missing is a clit stimulator" castle design, and our most beloved cod piece, whoever was in charge of style for the Mystic Army was most likely a flaming 'mo.

My queery for you, dear forumers... who was in charge?

THEORY THE FIRST: Magus was compensating so hard. So very, very hard.

THEORY THE SECOND: Ozzie implemented all the architectural and costume decisions based on what he believed was cool. Magus didn't really care either way.

THEORY THE THIRD: Flea. 'nuff said.

...Erm, also, I'm new. Hello!
