Project ZEAL / 1. Toma and the Rainbow Shell
« on: October 13, 2004, 02:17:53 am »
Zeality I have a question.  Can I write my character's intorduction with him already being contacted by gaspar and told that he would be needed?  Or should I hold off and just introduce him without any interruption to his usual routine?  I ask because I figure he wouldn't be seen again untill he was "beamed" up with the rest and was wondering if Gaspar was talking to anyone one before assembling them?  But I don't want to mess with the plot if thats not the case.

Yeah I don't mind him not being used in the jailbreak scene, when he can just as easily be introduced by having Gaspar summon him for some reason.  Maybe Endless G has a plan to strike Zeal from the earthbound territory and needs a guide?

Ok in case we want to go with the earthbound here goes...
Jack Nova, even though it doesn't sound like a very tribal name, it is.  Jack is an "Earthbound one" from either the distant past of the Keystone timeline or modern day Zeal.

Jack's whole life has been spent with the extended family of his village.  No one comes into the village thats not born to it.  The endless winter makes travel impossable, the only time anyone travels is when the men make hunting rounds.  In fact, most of what the village eats is animal, plant life being very scarce in the tundra.  Because of the steady diet of protien, Jack, aloing with the rest of the village, has a very stredy build.  Jack is about 5'8'' and 230 lbs.  Also because of the thousands of years spent in survival mode, jack and his tribe have hieghtened senses, espesscaily smell and taste.

Language isn't well developed in the tribe, people usualy speak to each other only on matters pertaining to day to day life and survival.  Because of this Jack wouldn't be quick to understand abstract thought.  Women are revered in Jacks tribe because it is through thier cycles that the village can measure extended amounts of time(there is no sky to see the moon becuase of either storm clouds or floating continets, and there are no seasons).

From a tribe that has never known war Jack may be at a dissadvantage but it wouldn't take him long to translate his hunting skills into combat abilities and considering his build he should be able to hold his own.  Weapons he carries include knives, harpoons, hatchets, nets.  He would think of these more as tools.

Reason for being chosen:

If we're doing the Zeal timeline Jack then we could say that he got kidnaped for the purpose of slave labor, then escaped with the rest during the jailbreak scene.

If we're doing the Keystone from the past Jack then I guess he would get picked the same way the nba drafts players nowadays, purely on potential.  I figure the hard life, plus a strong build and heightend senses would make for a good person to have on your team, if you can give them some magic first then let them spend four years back home trying to learn how to use it.

Feedback is apreciated.

Well, I was thinking of doing an Earthbound character from either the present in the Zeal Timeline(I'm asuming that in the Zeal Timeline the earth is still in endless winter) or somewhere around 11,000 B.C. of the Keystone/Toma Alteration Timeline.

If no one really digs that one then I can come up with another.

Hey I'm new here, looks like I got in a little late.  I guess I'll make a character or two, but wait to write untill I can get a feel for how this style plays out.
I'd definitly throw down some critisism though.

About the characters, do they have to be from the current time(that the stories take place in) or can they be from the past as well?

General Discussion / Possible Chrono community wide fanfiction project

I would love to give this a shot, I asuming that there would be an editor or something like one to weed out/revises any of the fanfics that aren't up to par(ie mine).  I have an idea of what to write about, it doesn't involve non chrono seris game cross overs but I still think it might be worth a shot to write.

About the titles of the Gurus.  The three Guru's titles were supposed to be a joke by Sqaure, much like Ozzie, Flea and Slash were a little joke too.  You see, the Gure of Life makes weapons, the Guru of Time goes to a place where time either doesn't exist or has no meaning, and the Guru of Reason goes crazy.  Oh, the Irony.

I played a bit of it, it seems all right.  Good old job system and whatnot.  Then I realize how amazing FFIV is and not just by comparison.

On Magus's changed apearance...

If Magus can transform Glenn into a frog then I'm sure that he could do a few slight modifications to himself aswell.  So let's drop all the nonsense about hairdye and contact lenses when good ole transformitive magic is the simplist answer.

I thought the earthquake thing was supposed to be a crappy foreshadowing to Lavos.

Whoa you guys are quick to put all this on the Mystics now arn't you.  Show me a quote that says that the Mytic Army destroyed the forest.  As far as I know there isn't one, instead Fiona says that because of the war her forest is slowly dissapearing.

That says to me that Humans were chopping it down because they needed the materials for the war.  Why would the Mystics tear down the forest, it makes no logical sense.  Because they were evil?  That's just lame(and a senseless use of the word evil).

Just because the Retinite was there doesn't mean that the mystics sent it or plotted the forest downfall.  The reason the forest is replaced with dessert isn't because of magic or somesuch, it is meant to be a symbol.  Where once was life is now replaced with death, a fitting theme for a worn torn time period.  That wouldn't hold up as well if the forst were replaced with instead say...grassland.

Lavos didn't kill Magus in 600.  As far as I know there is no evidence to back this up in Chrono Trigger.  What is implied is that Magus dissapeared. If you believe Lavos did kill Magus consider this:  In the Crono timeline Magus is summoning Lavos when Frog, Crono and co. arrive.  They fight untill a giant portal arrives and sucks them all in.  Well, why would this be different in the normal timeline?  Why would the arrival of Crono and co change the arrival of Lavos into a portal?

It is my thoery that Magus in the original timeline is sent back to Zeal in a third(first being normal and second being Crono) timeline where he does the same things he does in the Crono timeline sans Crono and co.  In zeal either he awakends Lavos and is killed or he awakens Lavos, is diffeated and sent safely away with Schala.

Hell, it could even be him that takes out Dalten in the Crono-less timeline
