Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / names for powerfull magic
« on: July 06, 2006, 11:01:24 pm »
Just for fun, let me see what kind of inventive names you guys can come up with for powerfull magic attacks.  Based on the Lightning/Shadow/Fire/Water theme.  Also throw in any other element you can that you can think would be relevent.

As an example I will steal one from Chrono Trigger, as I always thought that "Hexaon Mist" was a kickass name for water attack.

Have fun.

How about it feeds off the FF(hence the mutation) and gets more powerfull the closer it is to it?

I don't think that Jai whould have to be a shapeshifter to be accepted.  I'm sure some would fine it quite odd, but on the other hand most people, espescially those in El Nido, wouldn't have too much of a problem with it, seeing as how they have all the demi humans, monsters, dwarves and whatnot roaming around.

I am reminded of a part in Chrono Trigger where you learn that some monsters co-exist with humans peacefully.  Granted that was only a piano playing Kilwala, but I'm sure Jai could be at least tenatively accepted.  Either that or when out with the crew on missions everyone could say that Jai is thier pet.

I don't see why Nanashi would be wasting thier time as prison gaurds.  I would suggest making the fight a bunch of low tier prison gaurds who try to overwhelm the trio/quartet.  Think ninja Turtles vs. the foot clan!  Maybe one gets in a lucky shot...

Jack Nova

In the begining Jack doesn't want to be a part of the Zeal Project and asks that he be sent back to his own time to think things over.  He quickly realizes that he needs to be a part of the project, because he can't stop thinking about what he's seen and because by contrast, village life seems so bland.  Later he begins to to think that he needs to save the rest of his village from thier dull existence.

However, he is shuned when he displays some rudimentary magic to them during an attempt to display to them the kind of life they can be leading.  So he leaves home for good vowing never to return.  At the end of the story after peace is made with the Zealians of the Zeal dimension, Jack is the lone dissenter, and he travels to the Zeal timeline as a sort of a wandering profit in the hopes that he can lead the earthbounds in a rebellion.

I think Absolute Zero should be a possible feat by Zealian Mages(the higher ups anyway)  0 Kelvin is the temperature that atomic particles stop moving, and therefore stop existing, it would be like an instant death ice spell.

It's a bad idea to try to fully explain magic, we should just leave it as the physical manifestation of one's will.

I'm curious? How do we write it in to be plausable for the more physical characters to stand up to these guys? It seems like Vtrans' demi human, Zeals' Juan and my Jack would just be punching bags you put on point.  If they run with Sygma then she could (later on) nullify the effects, but could other magic users also team up with them and give them higher resistences?

May I suggest that we divade magic into two types: Elemental and Natural

Elemental would then be divided into the four groups of Fire Ice Air and Earth and Natural would be divided into Holy and Shadow.  Natural Magic would be based on Life and Elemental Magic would be based on the physical world sans nature.  For instance Earth would not deal with plant life, instead it would include minerals, metals and gravity.  Air would include lightning, wind and rain, Fire, fire and heat and water would do water and ice and I guess steam.

Then Holy and Shadow would split spells relating to living things with Shadow skewed towards destruction and death and Holy dealing with Regeneration and life.

thoughts?

So how are spells catagorized in this fic?  It doesn't really matter for my char but I'm intreasted nonetheless.  Are they grouped into four cats(fire water lightning and shadow) or six(earth air fire water heaven shadow)? Or is it something different?

Scene 7 In the Fields, In the Heavens

In the fields, it was about 30 degrees and snowing--a warm day for spring.  A young man walked briskly out of his igloo with his hunting panoply.  He approached a group of a dozen or so like-dressed men.

“Jack,” they all chorused in disunion.  Jack acknowledged them all with a slight bow of the head before looking around him and asking who was left.

“Only Jayhawk,” said the man with red scars across his face.

They all continued to wait for the man they called Jayhawk, and when he arrived the group set out south of the village.  They didn’t know it was south; in fact, they had no word for any directions because north, south, east, and west all led to the same place: away from the village.

Hunting was light, but no one seemed too concerned.  The real work in the spring, or as the villagers knew it, the first through fourth cycles, was in fortifying the village after the winter storms and to prepare for the next.  In general, the making and gathering of the less perishable items was done first while the major hunting was tackled during the fall.  After the fall, there came a two-cycle period where the village entered a sort of hibernation, and nothing could be done in the way of gathering tools or working outdoors.

While trekking, the hunters placed a brushy limb at approximately every quarter mile so that they would be able to find their way back.  After they returned to the village, they broke into smaller groups and began to clean their kills, trade, make tools, repair their homes, and go about their daily routines, which had remained unbroken since before there were cycles to count.

Life in the village was more a circle than it was a flow; there was no progress, only a monotony that went unrecognized by the people because of its singular familiarity.  In this village, it seemed there was always a village and always people to live in it.  Just as there was always the man with the red scars across his face, who was unlucky to be disfigured but luckier then the man who fell to that beast.

No one questioned this way of life.  The villagers all played their parts as if they had rehearsed.  And they had, for every villager had lived and died a thousand times, replaced by themselves to pick up their life at some random part of the circle.

The only thing different in this village, at this place and during this year, was the man that Jack Nova was going to become.

Kind of off topic for me to argue this but here goes.  Janus did have a lot of inate magical talent.  The person who said that he didn't seem to have a shread of magic was some Zealian citizen, while it was Melchoir(albeit through hersay by an earthbound citizen) who said that Janus had magical powers for stronger than even Schala.

Anyways the point remains the same that in the world of Zeal now far more powerfull magic exists, but I'm down to name a few spells after Janus as a sort of acknowagement of him.

Anyone want to throw some critizism at me before I post this in the story thread. Thanks in advance.
