Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Still Finding New Things
« on: July 20, 2017, 02:19:56 pm »
Woah cool, I didn't know about that Chancellor line, nice find!

On my last playthrough (about a year ago maybe) I found out you can hold X during battles to auto-attack. Not sure if it was a known thing or not, but it made grinding so much easier and faster :D

That's a good question, but remember Magus wasn't alone. Ozzie, Slash and Flea were also waging war, with or without him*, and he just used the opportunity to do his thing without anyone bothering him. So I guess it wasn't the war coinciding with the Lavos' summoning, but the other way around.

*I imagine there's a timeline somewhere where Janus doesn't end up in 600AD, but I guess it's irrelevant to the Mystics vs Humans war, its roots coming from way before that.

Problem is, there's no vocal track of CC's ending (afaik), only way of getting it is isolating the voice from the rest of the instruments, and even then the result is far from perfect. So you'd either have to put the whole song in there, or have someone else sing it all over again.

Ohh this reminds me of that Magus' sprite with the red scythe, when he reveals he's the prophet. Could mean nothing, but still.

I watched it the other day, sorry I didn't reply, but it is truly amazing! I even sent it to some friends and they all loved it!

Also, you're going to lose the vocal from the ending theme no matter what you do. The SNES was never known for being good at reproducing intelligible speech.

It's doable, you'd have to compromise a lot on quality, but still...

In any case, even if you shrink the whole game down, cut filler characters, and adapt the combat system to a more classic style, it's too much of a big project. Not impossible though.

An actual, physical Chrono encyclopedia? Count me in. I'm willing to translate the whole thing into Spanish if there's enough interest.

Unless Squenix is secretly working on a new game I doubt that interest in the series would be renewed. At most, new players will be looking more for actual info (aka, Chrono wiki) rather than analyses and interpretations on its subjects. For me, this is the true value of the Compendium.

This could be the site's big final project. There's no copyright infringement involved, right? ;)

I would've never notice all that stuff, that's pretty cool.

I just thought it was a "calm after the storm" kind of scene, like in a TV series one episode would have a dramatic ending and then the next starts slow. Of course the dream being a premonition is pretty much implicit by the whole game's theme, but it could also be a window to a different dimension entirely (maybe that's why this scene and the one at the start of the game are so similar).

Also, about the game being a dream, remember:

"Am I butterfly dreaming I'm a man? Or a bowling ball dreaming I'm a plate of sashimi? Never assume what you see and feel is real!"

You have to take into account the echo effect applied by the SNES's DSP, which apparently they replicated manually on the DS like you mentioned there. I'd say the "most accurate" it's the original of course, but I guess you'd have to take inspiration from both sources if you want to get the best sound.

Also, few questions... Why the Namco expansion? How many channels are you going to use? Do you want to make a 1:1 version or a proper adaptation?

@kolt: Sadly I know next to nothing about hacking, otherwise I'd love to. In any case, it's probably a good idea to set up a GitHub project or something like that so that everyone can help.

"We can never make everyone happy"

I'm happy either way, it's the start of a new Chrono era. Maybe this is what we needed to revive the flame for the series? Who knows, but I'm hyped anyway.

You may now continue. Please.

I was amazed when I heard the music he wrote for The Explosion of Comet ISON (a japanese TV documentary), it's mainly orchestral but with a bit of synth stuff thrown here and there. Given the context for the music, it might sound a bit minimalist at times compared to his game works, but it definitely has his trademark sound. Lots of Chrono/Xeno vibes.

And obviously, this thread cannot be complete without the Kato+Mitsuda combo, kiRite.

Radical Dreamers, the RPGMaker Remake / Re: Info

Not much. I don't remember what happened exactly, but we lost contact with everyone, at least in my case.

Apparently Musa was still working on it on his own. I tried contacting him again, but I got no response so far.
