General Discussion / Re: Movies thread
« on: September 03, 2009, 05:51:03 pm »
I recommend that everyone see these two movies in the near future.

Everything Is Illuminated - Elijah Wood is a young Jewish man from the United states chasing his family history on a tour of the Ukraine. The wonky characters with all their quirks make this movie hilarious at the start, but there is a HUGE paradigm shift in the very middle of the movie that will just leave you sideswiped. I laughed, I cried, it's just amazing. 9/10

This Is England - A young English boy in 1986 is tortured at school until he meets a young skinhead named Woody. Woody takes him under his wing until the leader of Woody's gang gets out of jail and comes back. This furious man named Combo embodies the British Nationalist's radical ideals, and ends up stealing the boy's affections from the laid-back Woody. Plus you get to see a 20-year old girl make out with a 10-year old kid, which is a pretty funny scene. 10/10, if only for the emotional impact of the last 20 minutes.

My clinical site time got changed today. Instead of having to be there at 6:45 AM, I now have to be there at 5:45 AM.

Waking up at 4:30 only has one perk, and that's watching Adult Swim with breakfast.

FML.

Opera 10 Beta doesn't work for me, suddenly; freezes everytime I try to open a tab. Did a scan, got nothing, reinstalled, still the same... Opera 9 is unreliable and freezes constantly anyway. does the same thing. Firefox takes 5-10 minutes to start up and is generally pretty damn slow.

Fuck this, I was having a bad enough week. I can't get anything fucking done.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Is it definitely plugged in?

(props if you get this reference)

IT CROWD

FUCK YEAH!!! FAVORITE SHOW EVER!

I love Spades. And I'm really really good at it. Texas Hold 'Em is okay with me, I can play it too. I think this would be a lot of fun!

Oh man, I am sooo not wanting to upgrade to Vista. I love my XP. I loves it, and wantsss to keep it, preciousss. Why does Microsoft have to constantly "innovate"?

Speaking of which, Internet Explorer 8. Is anyone else able to type in these forum post windows in IE 8 without enormous scrolling problems? Microsoft did do an ingenious thing by letting you revert your browser to a Compatibility View setting, though.

I wouldn't know. I use a good browser.

Some of us were ideologically conservative ourselves not too many years ago.

Like me. But then I realized that most of conservatism's values and views are so selfish. I can't live in a world run like that. Also, I'm tired of rich people like Rush and Hannity telling me how to feel as a middle-class American.

Doesn't everyone in CC have totally unrealistic proportions anyway though?
only the girls who arent macha.
but damn, if only i could get a ps emulator to work right.

http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/psx_em.html

Always works, never needs adjusting. It's the perfect emulation of the PSX.

I think it was rude that possibly the person most opposed to Ted Kennedy on these forums is the one to start a thread about him, as if taking some kind of moral high ground.

I can understand where you're coming from. But he's honestly done what every conservative does. They make mistakes, point fingers, then apologize heartily.

It's better than my 6-week hermit crab.

I'm surprised he lasted that long. I didn't realize that they had to be submerged in water... I had him in a dry tank with a little dish of water that he spent a lot of time in. I was 7, so I guess me or my mom should have had a little bit better critical thinking skills. "Man, he's always thirsty!"

Poor Thirsty the 6-week-old hermit crab.

This is not an actual memorial thread for Ted Kennedy, at least not by construction. It's the mark of dishonesty.

And just what gives you the God-like right to determine what other people's motives and actions are? I'm not exactly a conservative, but I sort of ride that side of the fence. I'll admit to anyone that Ted's death was more than likely self-inflicted from the torture he put himself through in regards to alcohol. However, I also have respect and love for him and his family as a fellow man living upon this Earth we've been given. I see this as one of God's magnificent creations leaving this plane and ascending to another. So while this is a sad experience, I'm also joyous that he won't have to suffer with the extreme amount of pain he must have been in in the later years of his life.

I said all that to say this, Z you really need to get off the whole left/right thing and realize we're all just sharing this planet for a little while.
