General Discussion / Re: WALLPAPERS!!!

Heh, that fascinating huh? I have a link to my gallery page (the site is used for random avatar purposes), so you can see all of them there: http://rav.shishnet.org/Molotov.html
For sake of typing more, or being complete:
1. The first three are all from Tear Ring Saga.
2. Ursula, Leona, and Marsha are all from Radiata Stories.
3. Heather, Ameldha, Volke, and Tiamat are all Fire Emblem characters.
4. Yuffie, Peppita, Morrigan, and Barney are all self-explanatory.
5. Tread is from the Commandos series (though not Commandos 3 or Commandos: Strike Force).
6. All 3 mask pictures are related to the Splatterhouse series.
7. Jump and Joe Musashi (the ninja) are both taken from the Super Shinobi II (Japanese version of Shinobi III) box.
8. Tenchi is fairly explanatory, but this specific one comes from the Tenchi Muyo RPG on the SNES.
9. "rr" and "mc" are both from Hannah Montana.
10. Riffany is from Langrisser III.
11. "nwnk" is a screenshot from the movie Léon (the superior version of The Professional).
12. A picture from Nancy Drew is named accordingly.
13. May is a character from Guilty Gear.
14. Listell is a character from Langrisser IV.
15. "kt" is Kate Todd (Radio Free Roscoe, among other things).
16. Kitsune is from Love Hina. That picture is from some sort of action figure.
17. Jane is from Disney's Tarzan. Also, that is Tarzan's finger, before anybody gets ideas.
18. Imelda is from Langrisser II/Der Langrisser, and Bozel is from Langrisser I, II/Der, III, and IV. That shot is from III/IV.
19. Hannigan is obviously Alyson Hannigan.
20. "heh" is some random picture that I cropped after a buddy gave it to me.
21. The elephant is from United States Presidential Election for the NES. No, I'm not kidding.
22. Alouette is from La Pucelle Tactics.
23. Alia is from Mega Man X5 onward.
Anyway, I think I covered everything.

Another excuse to talk about myself when I already do so far too much? YEAH!
Seriously though, I tend to switch wallpapers like every freaking week, so I'm usually recycling the same old junk over and over. By that I mostly mean stuff that can be described as: Fire Emblem, hot chick(s), and some random picture I decided to put on there (centered). Obviously, the real pain comes in when I lack type 2. Never can one get enough of those.
As a side-note though, Xenosaga should fall down a cliff a die, never to be remembered again. All my personal opinion, of course. Don't mind me.

...But I HATED Meena...
The word "gigafrown" comes to mind about now.

Whoo I've had Dragon Quarter here at home for around six months and had simply forgotten about it! Ha! Hopefully, I'll have some time to play it tonight, now that I remembered.
But hey, is the story any good? I remember barely taking two steps into the game, so I pretty much know nothing about it.
Basically, the plot revolves around Ryu protecting Nina and attempting to get to the surface (the game takes place entirely underground) so that she won't die from air pollution. The plot before that has him going on a mission to recover "cargo" with Bosch, who is a fairly high D (D-rank is their rank on the food chain, with Ryu's low D meaning he's pretty much a peasant). Honestly, I wouldn't put the plot up very high on a list, but it does a good job of the Ryu/Nina stuff.

« on: January 22, 2008, 07:44:59 pm »...Star Ocean: TTEOT...
Please, save yourself some brain cells and stay away from this game. The basic idea, in my mind, is that the game has "charm" for up until Elicoor II, at which point the game falls off a cliff and dies a very slow and painful death. Cliff's personality is freaking awesome, and some of the things he says are quite amusing ("I learned something today. The whips on this planet hurt too.").
Other than that, I loved Meena (the little girl on Vanguard III) and Peppita (12 year old that is the happy-happy of the game). The former is basically the best part of the game, and is the reason for so much of the "charm" I mentioned. Peppita, on the other hand, doesn't get a big enough role in the game to suit me. :/
But anyway, all you really do is watch scene after scene of a really boring plot and mash buttons in battle. If you're "good" at the battle system, you might upgrade to "cancel my specials 5 times in a row and repeat until the enemy dies." On the plus side, you can control anybody you want in combat, so you don't get stuck running around as Fayt the mega dork.
About the plot side though, Elicoor II is where you spend most of the game, and I happened to hate Nel within a very short time of her showing up. Obviously, since she plays a large role in the plot of that area, that means the game grated on my nerves extremely quickly and wouldn't let up.
Also, I feel the game suffered from a HUGE lack of direction. Often times I would find myself just wandering around TRYING to figure out where to go next or what to do when I got there. I kid you not, I spent a rather excessive amount of time at one point of the game trying to find the way to a specific area of the castle. The game was honestly assuming I gave enough of a rat's behind to know every inch of the stupid game, or that horrible planet.
Now anyway, after that huge rant, I'll give you a FAR better game to play than any mentioned in this topic (though I haven't played Dragon Quest VIII, but Toriyama mostly sucks anyway): Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. No random encounters (if that's your bag), and all combat is turn based on a field (based on the area you encountered the enemy) you can move around on freely. Freaking awesome game that's only real flaw is that it is WAY too short.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Chrono Cross hidden dialog option
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:34:08 am »
I stumbled onto this a while back too. Sadly (if my memory is correct), you cannot skip the first guard battle that way. Heck, to make it even worse, I seem to remember it causing you to get hit with an extra guard battle after the first one. Boo!

Ooh, another excuse to post pictures to my loot! How shameless I am.
Since I already posted my junk on a different board, I'll just provide a link to the post instead: Link.
Also, if you look two posts down from that, you'll see more. Those two posts cover everything, I think.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: I have 99 Denadorites...
« on: December 17, 2007, 03:28:55 pm »
Unless there's something I missed, fighting the Green Dragon has nothing to do with how much Denadorite material you have. Winning 6 battles is the requirement for Tyrano, and therefore the Green Dragon. If you know something I don't though, I'd love for you to explain it to me...considering this is one of those annoying speed run areas.
Anyway, you can forge Stone weapons after killing Miguel, so that's not an issue. My run plan involved killing MegaStarky after Miguel and forging a Stone Swallow before switching worlds (thank you, Nitrodon), so I've heard it's possible. Regardless, you can sell materials you don't need in the blacksmith screen, as far as I know.

Chrono Cross Modification / Re: CHRONO CROSS FILE EXPLORATION THREAD
« on: November 10, 2007, 09:16:26 pm »So -- does anyone know of any really good open source/freeware/shareware video capturing programs I could use?
I'll be honest: this topic confuses me and that's part of the reason I don't follow it all that closely. The other reason is perhaps that nobody has found sequence breaks because of this stuff.

Anyway, if you're using ePSXe or something with plugins, use Pete's Soft GPU 1.17 for video capture. No sound, but it can record without any watermarks. That way, you can record to Huffyuv and compress it to something good later. Your choice though, obviously.
If I'm saying something not even remotely related, I'm sorry. Blame the lack of attention.

In that battle area, there should be at least one statue (random in the Bend of Time) on the platform you're fighting on. I believe it's on the right side (from behind Serge), but it might be in front or on the left too.

I tried this out for just a bit a few minutes ago, and from what I was able to get, it's the "<time> fate" statue repeated. I have a picture, so let me know if I'm talking about the same thing you are. Link is here.

General Discussion / Re: Countdown to Dec 3rd! Are you ready to BRAWL?!
« on: August 01, 2007, 11:21:05 pm »So Ike is in!
Even though I don't really know who he is, I am always pumped for a new character.
I'm not a very big Fire Emblem fan, so is he just a main character from one of the newer games?
Anyone care to elaborate?
Ike is the main character of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Fire Emblem 9) for the Gamecube. Even though I'm a big fan of the series (obviously), I'm not really thrilled that Ike was chosen. I would have preferred someone like Volke, but that's completely farfetched and not going to happen.
Now, if only they would make a Barharra themed castle stage, or just about any reference to Seisen no Keifu (Fire Emblem 4)...

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Two questions; Black Plate/Pendragon Sigil A
« on: July 02, 2007, 10:07:40 pm »
For the Pendragon Sigil A, I'd just go to Another Mount Pyre, on the way to the Fire Dragon (or where he was, if you smoked him already). In the room right before the one he is/was in, there's a lava waterfall. Run up that and open nearest chest you see. As an easy alternative, you could just trash Dark Serge and get one (common drop).
To clarify my directions (just in case), I mean the real battle with the Fire Dragon, not the first time.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Optional Bosses
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:33:58 pm »The enemy I was thinking of is a Dragoon, who is, in fact, mounted on a dragon. He appears in a sideroom in Fort Dragonia. I don't remember if it's an actual starred boss battle--he's only moderately tough--but it is listed as a boss in the encyclopedia. Anyway, he's definately optional, and you don't gain much by fighting him.
Slight correction: The boss version of the Dragoon enemy appears if you skip the Water Dragon Isle/Ice Breath quest. He appears in the very first room of Fort Dragonia, and you can't skip him. Also, he drops FrogPrince after the battle.
As for the normal versions, there should be one in a side room of the blue area in Fort Dragonia. The only other one should appear on your way to Bunyip.

« on: June 02, 2007, 12:42:18 am »Oh, and you can run from the fight with Polly on the S.S. Invincible I think, and maybe Fargo too.
Actually, those are both required battles. You might be thinking the Man-of-War fight before them, which is optional.

Chrono / Gameplay Casual Discussion / Re: Dario is FRICKING IMPOSSIBLE!
« on: April 05, 2007, 10:53:35 pm »...and i dont understand the whole "counter" thing...once you use one element on Dario from every member in your party, he counters with a flipping conductarod! This is why you don't use your elements back-to-back. I suggested 2/2/2 (1 stamina left for the element) because it's a fairly safe bet for accuracy.
About the counters though, it means that if you use a specific element color on him, he'll use the opposite color immediately afterwards. This takes his turn away, meaning he can't attack at that time. The pattern is like this:
Red: Numble
Blue: Weaken
Green: LoRes
Yellow: BatEye
Black: RecoverAll
White: ConductaRod
Hopefully this helps you.
