Welcome to Enhaasa.
This is the Magical Kingdom of Zeal's city of dreams.

We search for truth in pleasant sleep...

...Ohh? But you seem different... [end]

This is the enlightened magical kingdom, Zeal.
Where every desire is fulfilled.
...But how high must one reach to grasp that wish...? [end]

The world you see through your eyes,
and the world I see through my eyes,
could be completely different.

The universe is filled with infinite existance.
One cannot simply consider the things we see and
touch to be 'reality'. [end]

I am Doriin.
Seek out the sealed passage.
The correct order can open it,
the door to great knowledge. [end]

Welcome.
How might I serve? [end]

((A bit more done. Yep, I'm sure it doesn't look like much, but seriously, translating people discussing the nature of the universe and talking in riddles isn't easy. I've tried to keep the dreamlike and contemplative, yet slightly sinister atmosphere of Zeal as well as I can.))

I'll update this as I go along with what I've done so far...Oh yeah, I refuse to write 'Zeal' as 'Jiil' it looks bloody stupid. The other names I will render as their original Katakana forms, but Zeal...no, I just can't, it'd be almost sacreligious! ^_^'

Welcome to Enhaasa.
This is the Magical Kingdom of Zeal's city of dreams.

(I know it says 'machi' but 'city of dreams' is cooler than town of dreams)

((It's only a little chunk of text, but this dialogue is pretty tough, so I'm just doing that as a taster. Hope it's ok.))

It's a little tricky, but having had a look, I think I can give it a shot. I love the atmosphere of Zeal, and some of the dialogue there is fantastic.

Spekkio: You with the spiky head, you're 'Heaven'.
Spekkio: This pony-tailed bombshell here has the power of 'Water'.
Spekkio: ...And over here with the glasses, she's 'Fire'.

Spekkio: By the way, it 'aint just with magic. The need to balance these four powers is universal!

Spekkio: Keep thinking 'I wanna use magic!' while you run around this room three times, clockwise from that door there!

(Please note, I probably have the lowest level of Japanese ability of the people working on this project, but I hope I've managed to get across the right feeling. The world 'Gal' has a slightly different connotation in Japan to England, it means more like 'bimbo' or 'valley girl', and is, I think, refering to Marle's blonde hair (I know she's kind of ginger, but she has the same hair colour as me, and I get called 'blonde' in Japan). I didn't want him to say 'bimbo', but I thought 'bombshell' carried the whole 'blonde girl' meaning in a nicer way. I was going to have him call Chrono 'Hedgehog Bonce' but I decided it might be too English sounding!)

Umm, Hi by the way, I'm Darth Mongoose! Yoroshiku ne!

General Discussion / How rude of me!

I didn't see an introductions forum, so I thought maybe this would be one of those forums where introducing oneself lead to painful repercussions....seems not.
I'm also new. Hello there! I've been browsing the site for a while, but only just decided to join here to work on the CT retranslation. I study Japanese and English lit, I'm from England, currently an exchange student in Nagoya, Japan. I've completed all three Chrono games (RD with all the different scenarios) ad in my spare time I like to put artwork on my devart site:

Nice to meet you all!

A verb stem on it's own in Japanese has no meaning, it's just a stem, just a random hiragana letter. There are no important kanji with the reading 'nu' either.

The reason the main heroes seem to have met with a shadowy fate (and I'm not enitely sure they did actually die) is because Chrono Cross is all about consequences.
In Chrono Trigger, the gang have a jolly romp through time, and it never seems to have anything but good consequences for them. Chrono dies, and with a bit of adventure, they manage to bring him back. Everything goes right, and it never crosses their minds to consider the implications of what they are doing. They're changing history!

Chrono Cross is the big plot twist of the series. Suddenly, after everything seeming all bright and wonderful in CT, you get slapped by this...And personally, I think you're supposed to feel it. The CT gang aren't kids any more. When they were young, running aound through time was all fun and adventure and to them they saved the world. Chrono Cross, you suddenly see the results from an adult perspective and go 'whoah...uh oh. They messed up time and space a bit, didn't they?'
I admit that CC wasn't as much FUN as CT. But it made me think a lot more. CC is a much more 'grown up' game that deals a lot with the complex nature of time and space and the consequences of actions. For this reason, had they used the Shounen Jumpy, bold drawing style of Toriyama, it would have looked wrong. CC may be bitter medicine, but you have to take it in order to experience and appreciate the Chrono series as a whole, by facing the consequences that were ignored by the naive youngsters of the first game and tying up all the lose ends.

Here you go! Not all the characters here have full drawn images, but all the important ones, like Kid, have good quality versions of the original artwork. Hope that helps!

EDIT:

Oh yeah, I have a scanner here and can probably get Ultimania from the game shop in town maybe, I'll keep an eye out for it.
