I know I'm late to the party. Just wanted to say, absolutely bomb work. That looks fantastic.

Chrono Trigger Modification / Not Learning a Triple Tech

Hi, everybody. Long time no see. I'm working on a cleanup release of the Schala Edition patch that fixes some bugs reported over time.

This one actually wasn't reported, but I noticed that Chrono-Frog-Ayla never learn their Triple Tech. I've double and triple checked Hi-Tech in Temporal Flux to make sure I have the Performance Group and Tech Requirements set properly, and I do. I also looked at that spot in a hex editor to make sure that what Hi-Tech displayed was accurate, and it was.

Any ideas? This is only happening to this one Triple Tech.

Sorry about that. I'm working on a bugfix release right now and have rectified this issue.

Site Updates / Schala Edition v2.1 patch
« on: January 14, 2021, 02:01:58 pm »
Hi, everybody! Version 2.1 of the Schala Edition hack is now available!

Patch and readme:
http://www.bwass.org/bucket/011421schalahack.zip

I've also submitted an update to the project's page on Romhacking.

2.1 is a mild cleanup of 2.0, correcting typos and addressing many bugs reported by users. The primary game content remains unchanged from 2.0.

First-timers, be sure to use the "Chrono_Trigger_(U)_[!].smc" version of the base ROM.

I'd just like to thank the community here again for its support while I worked on the project throughout 2019. It wouldn't have happened without the Compendium.

Cheers!

Wait, I could be charging? :O

Perhaps you forget, but I actually asked you if you had a Patreon or anything similar. I was prepared to pay!

More characters coming out of the closet in Chrono Trigger! :P

Yes please.

But if you live in Medina, you might want to move your fine china out of the way first.

This has always been one of THE most supportive sites for creators. Thank you for that. This hack wouldn't have ever gotten off the ground without the support from this place (well, and all of the expert help FOR FREE from Mauron).

The hack should be ready within the week.  Should I just post it here or is there someone I should send the archive file to?

ZeaLitY, I can't stress this strongly enough: don't die with your stories still inside of you.

My three most popular hacks are "What if?" alternate story deals. Some people enjoy them, some people HATE them, some people can't be bothered. But I was going to make them regardless because... I just felt a need to.

Hacks are exhausting to work on, but they are also so fun to work on. There's nothing else quite like it. And when you finally get it to all come together, it's just magical.

Don't waste another day thinking about it. Start doing stuff.

I ended up biting the bullet and manually copy-pasting the text content out of all of the events in Temporal Flux. It was a pain, but worth it. I was able to fix a lot of typos and little goofs.

I'll be releasing 2.1 of the Schala hack soon. No new content, just fixes and some readjustments. Is the Compendium still interested in hosting it? It will also be submitted to Romhacking.

I'd like to revisit the hack again if/when enemy AI editing becomes a thing, so that Schala could actively assist the party in the battle where she appears as a non-interactive enemy. And obviously if an 8th party member ever becomes a possibility...

Hi. I'm the guy who made the Schala Edition hack a while ago.  I'd like to make some updates to the hack, but one big frustration are... simple typos! I found way too many and would want a future release to have zero.

Is there a utility that will allow me to rip all text content from a modified CT ROM? Even if it can't reinsert the text--I could spellcheck the exported text and then manually fix any mistakes in Temporal Flux. I've used this strategy for other projects and it worked well.

Thank you!

CH86: I made this hack on my own, but with extensive technical support from people here, especially Mauron. I worked on it off and on for about nine months. If I'd worked on it for an hour or two every day, it probably would've taken me about three months.

Sailor Phantom: Thanks for catching that! Easy fix.

Dinadan: I think that different CRC32 might just be due to the rom having a header vs. not having a header. I'll research further, but if that's the case, either version would work.

the_E_y_Es: Thank you! I'm not 100% satisfied with it. Some of it was just by ear, but I actually used some cheesy Elizabethan/Shakespearean text translators online to get some of the more distinctive vocab.

chardizzeroony, Toreadore and taac: Sadly, a host of connected bugs were found over the past few days involving the Schala sequence. A new patch will be released within the next few days to address the whole kit and kaboodle.

The intended path is: explore area around Last Village, optional visit to Beast's Nest, Forest Primeaval, Blackbird Crash, Guru's Retreat.

Thanks everyone!

Hmmm, what emulator are you using?

The weirdness during the Black Omen event happens with many Chrono Trigger ROM/emulator combinations, even with no hacking, so that's beyond my ability to address.

The map noise is more concerning to me.
