Site Updates / Re: Chrono Trigger: Episode I July update
« on: July 16, 2011, 12:17:16 am »
I still can't grasp the fixation on making a novel of Chrono Trigger, especially when the game's story can hardly be considered an epic or anything.

Second thing I would address is, if you don't think CT is "considered an epic or anything"...well the obvious question becomes: what are you doing here? Ya, we have things relating to Chrono Cross, Radical Dreamers and etc - but it all began with Chrono Trigger my friend...and imo (and I know im not alone) CT is more epic than any of the other titles...that Squaresoft has ever released since.

@Romana allow me to help you understand, so that perhaps in the future you will encourage creative undertakings rather than undermine/discourage them.

Those of us that are gifted with the ability to creatively express ourselves (whichever avenue it may be) are fueled by inspiration made possible by...other artists. That would be the same reason I decided to make a CT tribute album some time ago. I grew up playing CT ever since the summer of 95', and later in life I became a producer. The music in CT has always stuck with me, and was partially responsible for contributing to the development of my creative drive. The album I made was in thanks of that, as well as for any other CT fan that loved the music as much as I did.

So.

It's the same with this writer here. The rich and epic story line of CT stayed with him...and surely helped to inspire his creative drive. I would go as far as to say that his novel concept is also partially in thanks for CT itself, just as my tribute album was. There is also a strong possibility that several CT fans would enjoy his writing.

In any event, even if you still don't agree - you aren't losing or gaining anything...next time don't go out of your way to blow an artist's buzz. Compositions in any form, are a delicate process. Please be respectful of it. Negativity is cancer to an artist.

Thanks.

I'm not going to give up, yet. I have a good Japanese friend that is willing to help me with communications for however long I need, and now is a good time to continue having just established direct contact with Yasunori. My next approach is going to be regarding my own music. I am going to ask Yasunori to have a listen to something I have made. He isn't down with random fans, but maybe he is down with random fellow composers/musicians/producers, all of which I am. If Yasunori is down with my music, perhaps he may be more willing to talk.

This will clearly be my last attempt, there is nothing else in common and I have no other reason to communicate with Yasunori. So this is my question guys...

I need to pick 1 song out of the 36 that I have up online. I have different genres to choose from, and it has to be something to his taste. Will you guys go through some of my music and let me know what song you think I should choose? Remember - he is all about emotion in music, but also has an attraction to aggressive arrangements. If a bunch of you suggest the same song, clearly that will be the one that I choose. If I don't get a reply from any of you about this, I'm just going to have to wing it...

Here is me asking Yasunori directly via twitter if I could ask him just a few questions about his music on behalf of many fans:

Here is Yasunori replying to me, saying "I'm sorry, I only accept who I know":

Starting a company for the sake of a short interview is a bit overkill and would probably be viewed as such. We reached out, adequate contact was established, and the answer was no. To continue asking for the same thing would only start to make us look bad.

BUT.

What I can (and will) do for the next few weeks though, is message Yasunori directly via Twitter repeatedly until he answers me...or doesn't. I'll take the risk of looking bad personally instead of this whole community, a final effort.

I'll have Magus22 construct something new for me in Japanese, short and sweet. I'll be back when I have those results.

Wish me luck people.

Don't take this so personally. The guy is busy, and doing direct interviews with people who are just fans and don't really have any sort of experience in this sort of thing would just end badly for everyone involved. It's awesome that we got as much as we did.

It's not that he "doesn't care about the fans", he's being professional and smart about it.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails (with whom Yasunori more than likely has much reverence for) interacts directly with his fans through his website. Measure Trent Reznor's success vs Yasunori. Are you insinuating that Trent Reznor is both unprofessional and unintelligent? You don't need to reply, because it doesn't matter. Bottom line is, 10 minutes could have been taken to satisfy incredibly devoted and loyal fans. Five short questions. It's really that simple. I'm with Magus22 on this.

None the less, speaking of the fans - it's still great to have met a few of ya. Some really fine gents. I'll still be around boys, keep in touch.

Good game, good game.

Well everyone, it was a good effort - but we were rejected for our interview. The following is an email I received from Mr. Mitsuda's manager regarding our outreach efforts for a short interview:

[hidden]

Dear Mr. St.Charles

Thank you for your email. I'm Mitsuda's manager, and I am writing this email because I'd like to answer your request on behalf of Mitsuda.

I'm sorry to say that Mitsuda is unable to accept your request for 2 reasons. First, He has a crowded schedule now. Second, as a rule, he accepts request from only company because there are many fans of Mitsuda as you know. This rule is for Mitsuda to make time for making music.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sincerely,

So I guess, fans aren't a priority...unless we are a company  (which ultimately means money) there is no interest in reaching out to and communicating with fans. A bit disappointing, yes - but it is what it is.

Sorry for the failure, I did my best. I suppose I could continue to reach out directly to Mr. Mitsuda via Twitter but really, we just got our answer - this is his philosophy in dealing with fans when it comes to this kind of thing.[/hidden]

Fixed and updated from the last 3 posts.

Sorry Wiz! We can get a lot of impersonators here, but I reworded the question for you and added another one as well from Mr Bekkler's suggestion.

Thanks bro!

Can't say I like this kids attitude...

Thank you.

That sounds like a great question my friend. A great mind at work here. That should def be on the list for a CT related question.

Hey guys. I was informed today that a friend of mine was killed. Her name is Charlene. She was driving with her friend and they seen a car accident, they both got out to help and both got hit and run by another car. They both perished. She's left behind 4 children and a husband.

I made a song for her and her family & friends, it's inspired by 'Too Far Away Times' - it's my own variant of it. I thought I'd share it here with you guys and remind you, time is short...so don't treat it like it is eternal.

I think we should keep focused on coming up with innovative/creative questions that will touch on his feelings and most inner thoughts/memories, deeply. I believe, the more generic the question - the less likely this interview will even come to pass. I'm sure if we all put our minds to it and try really hard, we will come up with some great questions. If we were to ask a total of 10 question, I think the first 6-7 questions should be this fashion, leaving the last few as lighter questions perhaps a bit more fun or quirky...if that makes sense.

Just think - what's the common link...why are we all here? CT of course. Having said that, try thinking of questions that are relevant exclusively to that time period, and even before then. Mr. Mitsuda has experienced a lot of success since those days...most of the time folks in that position tend to forget where they came from, at least in some aspects if not completely. We are presenting ourselves as being from ChronoPendium, the ultimate CT page. Therefore let's give him a dose of nostalgia in a very unique and attentive way.
