This came to me of a night on over six hundred milligrams of caffeine and a discussion of underappreciated characters.

Been a longass time, by the way! Glad to see this place isn't quite dead yet.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Vera(RD)/Marle ideas

Personally, I"m still of half the mind that Vera = Queen Zeal, which is where they got the idea of Dalton having been warped to Porre instead; something may have happened that restored her sanity, and people described Queen Zeal as having been kindhearted before the events of Chrono Trigger, so her being the sort who offers to patch you up and such doesn't seem too out of character, especially since you're forwarding her plans (and her being manipulative certainly does fit with what we've seen of her in Chrono Trigger).

Well, there could be some blending of it with the whole Lost Sanctum thing from CT DS. Don't know exactly how to do that, but then again, I'm also pretty tired right now.

Magus was originally going to be a musician

When Janus first landed in the Middle Ages and convinced the Mystics that it was a bad idea to try and kill him, Slash and Flea kept trying to convince him to play drums (taking advantage of his deep, internal hatred of pretty much everything by letting him beat on something) and call him Roger, so that it would be thematically appropriate for their cover band, The Mystic Knights, to cover Black Sabbath (and Ozzy Osbourne), Guns 'n Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and top it off with Queen. This proved to be a mistake when Janus kept setting the drums on fire or zapping the speaker system.

Characters, Plot, and Themes / Re: Why is Gaspar the Guru of Time?

It's because Belthasar's sphere of influence, being Reason, is more about invention and progression. The Epoch may have been based on something theorized by Gaspar, and so Belthasar took it to its logical conclusion, that being a machine able to travel back and forth through time.

Sounds almost just like part of it (and it would make sense, considering Thief is ultimately a Squeenix thing now), but a little off key. Then again, what would you expect from a guard?

General Discussion / Goku's mother has been given a name
« on: February 01, 2014, 06:25:12 pm »
It's Gine.

How many of you here suddenly think that Goku and Crono are at least half-brothers? The names of their mothers are close enough that she could have just changed it when she crash-landed on Crono's world.

New theory: Crono gains experience and power by devouring the sould of his enemies

Red hair and green eyes are two signs of gingerhood. All of the souls he steals turn into freckles, even if you can't see them, because he makes them all appear in places under his clothes, so as to prevent the rest of the party from knowing the truth.

Wow, Lennis sure can give a motivational speech. Makes me feel all tingly inside.

As for the movie idea itself, what kind of medium would you have it portrayed in? Live action? Animation? I, personally, could hardly see it as anything but a cartoon, although CG might work as well, but I'm not sure. Considering that Toriyama's getting back into making cartoons again, he would probably enjoy a chance to do something like that, but asking for big names is about as pipe-dreamy as it gets.

The portrait I can't explain anything about, but the line I can. Karsh says that because the sword, as shown throughout the game, doesn't need to actually touch anyone to influence them. Karsh held a deep jealousy of Dario over Riddel, and even though the blows themselves were made in self-defense, that jealousy reared its ugly head, and felt like the sword was partly to blame, possibly having pulled the feelings to the surface while he and Dario fought.

I always thought that she made Ayla to have sexy tiemz and just happens to be a completionist, and so made everyone else.

Not much wrong with liking weird characters. After all...

My own favorite in Chrono Cross is Grobyc, though Steena pulls a close enough second. She's the reason why I can understand feet being a sexual thing.

You're welcome for the input as well.

I think the reason why I can settle down on the idea that it's all the will of the Entity is because I've played D&D so much, where nearly everything can be explained by "A wizard did it," which, more often than not, is actually true.

Unfortunately, the Entity is not a wizard, so digging a bit deeper into such things is, indeed, good practice.

I had always thought of this as early evidence of the Entity's existence. She got warped away to a place outside of time (perhaps somewhere around The End of Time without all of the blocks and lights and buckets that Gaspar made, or even the Darkness Beyond Time, which is explained in Chrono Cross) in a gambit by the Entity to inspire her friends to not only search after her, but to further meddle with time, and defeat Lavos. The incident had led to Crono being tried or kidnapping, the subsequent jailbreak, and then managing to happen upon the one particular Gate available that would take them to the future and convince them that they need to fix things.

It is, admittedly, a pretty big gamble, but there have been bigger ones that work just fine.
