Lavos, the Planet, and other Entities / Re: Does Lavos communicate?
« on: July 07, 2006, 03:55:51 pm »
Why wouldn't Lavos be intelligent when it landed?
Parasites that infect human beings are probably just as smart, if not smarter, than other organisms of their size, but they sure aren't nearly as smart as the organism they're infecting. So I would assume Lavos to not be as intelligent as the planet, but just as intelligent, if not more so, than humans...

Also, I kind of assume he communicates without language, like the hive queen in Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind (sequels to Ender's Game, for those who don't know)

General Discussion / Re: The Byzantines
« on: July 01, 2006, 08:29:15 pm »
What's the order?

Byzantium -> Constantine moves capital to Byzantium and renames it Constantinople -> Rome splits and Byzantine Empire forms -> Turks take Constantinople and rename it Istanbul

Isn't that right? Then why would they name the new Byzantine Empire based on the capital, yet still call it Constantinople and not dename it back to Byzantium?

General Discussion / Re: Stuff you hate
« on: July 01, 2006, 08:24:45 pm »
I hate when people list "music" as an interest; EVERYONE LIKES SOME FORM OF MUSIC! Saying that you like music doesn't describe anything about your personality. Well actually, I do have a friend that actually doesn't listen to any form of music, but I assume that's insanely rare.

Similarly, I also hate people who read manga or watch anime JUST because it's manga/anime, not because it's good or anything

Hmm.. and when people say "------ and I" no matter where it is in the sentence. I don't have the same hate towards people making other grammar mistakes because when people say "----- and I", they specifically think that they're avoiding the 'error' of saying "------ and me". Actually, I almost enjoy saying stuff like "Can you come to the mall with Crono and me?" so that, in the rare case that someone tries to correct me by saying "it's 'Crono and I'", I can be like "WTF EHOIFHI IT'S THE OBJECT OF A PREPOSITION, NOT NOMINATIVE"... It's never happened, though, and I kind of have stopped caring when I see it in video games or in books

I always used Crono, Frog, & Marle, but I always wanted to switch Marle for Magus cuz I never really liked her that much and only used her for healing

General Discussion / Re: Favorite Place in an RPG
« on: June 29, 2006, 03:28:04 am »
I can't think of them off the top of my head, so I'll go through my games to come up with stuff...
There're going to spoilers, so I hope nobody minds
And I'll try to find pics of the places so other people know what I'm talking about

Kingdom Hearts:

Hollow Bastion... I actually really hate the whole elevator system and the sliding door system in the basement. I get really annoyed every time I have to watch the elevators move, and the sliding door system pisses me off because it looks like there's a hiden room that's actually totally inaccessable (I'm assuming it was in the beta or something like that). Besides that, I love everything else about Hollow Bastion, maybe because I played Chain of Memories first, and was so overwhelmed at how amazing Hollow Bastion is in KH compared to KH:CoM, or the feeling when Riku takes the keyblade. The exterior is really beautiful with the vast sky, and I always enjoy riding the one big elevator despite how much I hate the elevators because of the really awesome detail on the side of the castle. I love the Heartless symbol in the first place, and it on the castle is just an amazing sight for me. I don't know what the room is called, but the one with the princesses where you first Dark Riku, is so beautiful too.. plus, it has a heartless symbol on the floor. I have to say, though, that the second visit to Hollow Bastion was really disappointing because they hyped up how difficult it would be to go back and it turned out there weren't any encounters really.

Clock Tower in Neverland... or the Neverland World, technically in England or w/e. But anyway, I love the music, and how you can fly when you're there. The area or room or w/e you'd call it is so open, I love jumping off the tower and falling for what seems like forever until the pixie dust kicks in when you reach the bottom limit

Kingdom Hearts II:

Twilight Town... Although the opening is rather dull, it does make me feel rather attached to Twilight Town. I'm sure most people felt genuinely sad when Roxas says his "I guess my summer vacation is over" line. Also, once you get control of Sora, the music changes in the town, and it evokes a lot of feeling in me because it reflects how much I missed Roxas even though I never really liked him that much in the first place

The World that Never Was... I guess the main reason I love TWTNW is because of the Another Side, Another Story or Deep Dive videos that were teasers for KH2 unlockable in KH1; I'm sure I'm not alone in loving the mood set up with the rain and dark color scheme, and even if it's not that vividly expressed in the actual game, being there gives me the feeling that I get from the videos

Metroid Prime: I tried thinking of favorite places in this game, and I really couldn't think of any, but I wanted to add that I absolutely LOATHE the deep Phendrana Drifts with the Space Pirate research labs where you find the Thermal Visor and the lights go off in addition to the first appearance of Metroids, the Phazon Mines in general, and the annoying tall room in Impact Crater with the Fission Metroids that spawn for what seems like forever

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes:

Sanctuary Fortress... I love the exterior, especially the upside-down circuit-like rain, but it bothers me that the rain stops once you return the energy. The city that you can see bellow the fortress amazes me as well because it makes me almost marvel at the achievements of the Luminoth, but also makes me feel sad because I know that the entire metropolis is abandoned and that only a select few Luminoth are actually alive

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within:

Entrance to the castle... A picture would probably illustrate the feeling better than I could ever descirbe, but the way the camera is angled, the desperation of the prince, and the foreshadowing at all he'll have to do (I'm pretty sure you can see the water and gear towers in the distane) to be free just makes this brief part of the game stand out so much. It's not really a place that I'd go back to a lot to stare at, but every time I play it (3 times so far, because I failed to get all the life upgrades the first 2 times) I always take time to soak it all in

I want to go to sleep, so I'll just list some others... Lindblum in FFIX and the road to Zanarkand (I hate the actual interior of Zanarkand, though) and the Calm Lands in FFX

Does anyone know if the presence of gears in Xenogears is ever fully explained in Xenosaga Ep. 2 and 3? That's the one thing that I'm really looking forward to and will be really pissed off at if left out

Why would someone pay $600 for a game? That's crazy

I would probably do that if I weren't lazy and wanted money that desperately

Besides, it's not ALL that bad; I mean, they have peace of mind in thinking that they have the real thing, and for intents and purposes it basically is. It's not like they're going to find out 5 months later that it's a fake wrapping and then not be able to return it. If anything, you'd be screwing over the economy more than the person buying it.

Really? I got that impression from CC, but basically the total opposite from CT. I haven't played CT in a while, though, so I may be wrong.

Looks like Nadia's Bell to me, but I can't be sure

By the way, how is this being made and how many people are in the process of making it?

Doesn't seem like this thread is that active, but I'll post my opinion anyway...

To me, the games heavily suggest that Lavos brought chaos and corruption and evil or w/e you want to call it to men. That's not to say that such things didn't exist beforehand, just not in men; before Lavos crashes, Reptites are already civilized and organized, but exhibit 'evil' emotions. If evil and civilization are connected, Lavos 'indirectly' brings evil to men.

Now, I am not at all saying that it is even remotely possible that the people in Ayla's time were completely pure, rather, that the game is a fictional representation. Thinking about this reminds me of a time that I heard this girl talking about how much she disliked Kingdom Hearts (the original) when she found out that there actually was a Door to Darkness and that the whole thing wasn't metaphorical at all. To me, everything in KH is a metaphor... I can't really find a good way to put how hearing this may me feel into words, but I feel like the entire KH is a metaphor that should be applied to the player's life, not like everything leading up to the end of the game is a metaphor that should be applied to Sora... The more that I think about this, the less it seems relevant

I borrowed it from a friend a while ago and played it; I liked it, but not nearly as much as Xenogears
I found the AGWS pretty useless... I upgraded them even though I never used them in battle; I probably used them in one of the final battles, but I don't really remember. I was expecting something more along the lines of Xenogears (and, from what I heard, Xenosaga Ep. 2) where certain battles are much more difficult and visibly require the use of AGWS (like in Xenogears, any battle where you're supposed to be in a gear would have enemies that were like 50 times as tall as the characters since gears were so much taller, but AGWS are only like twice the height of the characters)

I guess the plotline was cool, but I never really got into it for some reason... Anyway, I'll probably buy (instead of borrowing, cuz the person I borrowed it from is moving to Georgia :() and replay Ep.1 as well as play Ep.2 & 3 once Ep. 3 comes out

I'm really pissed, because last that I heard Xenosaga Ep. 3 was going ot be the last of Xenosaga even though there were originally supposed to be 6 episodes (excluding episode 5 technically, which is Xenogears)

I don't really have the time to do anything, not that I did much in the first place, so I won't mind at all if I'm taken off the team to clean up the member list

Chrono Trigger Flash Series / Reviving the CT Flash Series
« on: December 13, 2005, 08:08:56 pm »
I haven't really been to the compendium in a long time... not for any particular reason, guess just laziness

Anyway, I've made a lot of progress in flash over the past 3 weeks, but because I decided to do 2 animations for school projects.. I only had 2 or 3 days to do them (3 days for my first one and 2 days for the one I did sunday and yesterday), so they were very VERY VERY poor quality, but they were my first attempts at flash.. and yeah, they were made within 2 or 3 days
but I'd probably still be outshone in whatever I could do by Specter since all I've tried to work with so far has been stick figures, and in the second animation i was too lazy to even show them walking when they moved across the screen

I wish I could take a course in flash =/ I think there's an animation class at Moore during the summer.. maybe I could do that this summer

EDIT: I forgot the point.. I could help with animation or stuff of that nature if it isn't too complicated, but I can't exactly help with audio since I had to get a microphone from my school library for the animations I've done

Chrono Compendium Discussion / Avatar Trouble

You can still view the image, like at the URL before you put it into the avatar thing? You should be able to right click it and go to "Save image as", then go to photobucket (www.photobucket.com), or imageshack (www.imageshack.us) if you don't want to have to sign up and just want to upload the one image... then you should be able to use the link from photobucket/imageshack

edit: I can't see my sig or avatar, and they're both in my profile when I looked.. so maybe there is some kind of problem other than off-site linking

Chrono Compendium Discussion / The Un-Official Avatar/Sig Request Thread
« on: October 07, 2005, 12:01:25 am »
Really sorry for disappearing for a month or w/e, especially since I originally made this to give sigs to people without having to wait until the end of september...
Basically, I stopped posting because school started and I just wasn't used to it... not that I have immense amounts of homework; I actually have barely any homework, but I just wasn't used to only having 3:00-10:00 to spend time compared to 8:00-10:00, plus my friend lent my FFX on the second day of school, and let's just say I might've played over 100 hours of it in less than a month (I think I got it on the 8th, and now it's the 6th).. I've also been avoiding posting again here because I was a bit ashamed to have not even worked on the sigs that I promised to do, so a couple of days ago I made lordchander's request ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/ShadowDrago/lordchandersig2.png and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v493/ShadowDrago/LordchanderSig.png ), but I was waiting to post it here until I did the others... However, the others are a lot more difficult, so I'd like to at least make sure that they're still wanted before I strain myself
